Thank you Tom & Barbara! Pastoral Scene Intentional The word intentional means: something done or made or performed with purpose and intent. I m reminded of an old saying that my parents would use: If it is worth doing, it s worth doing right. If you re going to do something, do it right. All of this speaks to living more intentionally. We need to be more intentional in what we do. We shouldn t do things half-heartedly. We should put everything we have into all we do. We shouldn t just drift through life. We should resolve today to start truly living. When we are more intentional and purposeful, the results are very satisfying. This should be applied to health, studies, career, work, hobbies, homemaking, relationships, recreation, and, of course, this should be applied to our spiritual life. Intentionality is the key to our spiritual health. What we do spiritually should be done or performed with purpose and intent. To spend time alone with God every day. To pray as individuals, couples, and families. To read God s presence into every thought and action, invite His presence into our homes. Make your homes little domestic churches. On a communal level, go to Mass and holy days of obligation. And while at Mass, be more intentional in what you are doing. (Sign of the cross, genuflecting, singing, responding, paying attention truly praying the Mass). In doing so, you will have a much more powerful experience at every Mass. To prepare myself to be more intentional in celebrating the Mass, I pray this prayer: Oh God, may I celebrate this Mass, as it were my first Mass, my last Mass, my only Mass. We shouldn t consider praying, going to mass, etc a chore, a drudgery, or done just out of religious obligation. Rather, we should view it as a privilege, honor, and joy to develop friendship with the God of the universe. Imagine! God rules over all, and yet He knows my name, your name, and longs for a more profound relationship with me and with you. Is growing that relationship worth the effort? 8 The Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time The Sunday Mass Schedule Stewardship Offertory Collections for: September 9 Dear Parishioners, We thank all who are participating in the Parish Weekend Mass Survey. It is not easy to make changes in our Parish, especially with the Sunday Mass Schedule that touches all of us. We have found, however, that it is better to make changes when we are still viable, than if we had to because we were having some serious difficulties. As the number of Ministry Volunteers continues to decrease, we have to find some way to continue offering our Liturgical Services without overburdening those who are presently helping. In addition, our Priests who minister here at St. Monica s are aging. With the new Mass schedule on Sundays, our Priests and Ministry Volunteers can continue to offer the same Liturgical Experiences that we have offered for the past sixty-six years. Regular Offertory... $ 7, St. Monica Fund $ 1, Children s Envelopes..... $ 7.00 After we see the results of this survey, we will then begin the new Mass schedule. This will take place on the first weekend of October. Please be patient and understanding. What is most important is that we are able to worship God and receive the Sacraments at St. Monica Church. Answer: in the Old Testament, a lamb was often used in sacrifices to God on the altar by the Priests. In the New Testament, Jesus offered Himself as the Sacrificial Lamb to His Father on our behalf on the Altar of Calvary. 9
