2 Fr. Thom s Blog Come away by ourselves to a deserted place and rest a while. Surely this Sunday s Gospel can present a challenge to a people who are part of a vibrant parish community. After being granted a few days to move in and settle down, I have found myself busy. My initial days were marked with participating in the Vacation Bible School on Shipwrecked Island. I highlighted to the kids that my pleasure boat became shipwrecked, and I arrived in Euclid. They assured me that it is a nice place to live. They were the first to welcome me, and over the following weeks I was overwhelmed by the friendliness of East Siders of Cleveland. I have found a new home and am grateful that fate would have me assigned to the parish of Ss. Robert and William. I look forward to teaching the school children and participating in the many groups and activities of the parish. I have been warned that I have to vacate the parish garage in the weeks ahead and be ready to work the festival. It doesn t appear that I will be walking about much but active at one stand or another. I am looking forward to that opportunity! I hope that my favorite foods will be served: chicken wings, French fries, and ice cream. I look forward to assisting Fr. John in his spiritual care of the people of St. John of the Cross. I treasure being able to celebrate Mass with the community it is the highlight of my day. While some people encourage priests to celebrate each Mass as if it is their first, I find that my celebratory style speaks of less nerves and more meaningful words and prayer postures. Our Eucharistic celebrations, hopefully, will reflect that we are part of one Church wherever we come from. It is in the breaking of the bread and all our celebration of the Sacraments that we together proclaim and manifest God s Kingdom. Part of my experience of being a priest for 33 years is that of being a hospital chaplain at three different hospitals for a total of 15 years. Fr. John desires to utilize my experience and training to compassionately care for the sick and the elders of our community. I hope to be able to augment his present care that he faithfully offers to visit the homebound, those in nursing facilities, hospitalized, and hospice. Welcoming people expressed to me their involvement in family life, the community, and the parish. I find it difficult to read my electronic calendar as there is so much happening each day! This is a busy parish with involved and active people. That is why today s Gospel is important for all of us come away and rest a while. From my windows I can see the regular flow of people, day and night, into the Adoration Chapel for a time of prayerful renewal. They are a constant reminder to me of the importance of staying rooted in the Lord just as Jesus renewed his relationship with his Father. May we allow the Lord to daily renew us. Fr. Thom Kowatch St. John of the Cross weekday Mass Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday at 8 am Tuesday & Thursday, 6:30 pm
