The nine-week prayer effort will focus on the change in membership of the Supreme Court so that our nation may move closer to the day when every human is protected in law and welcome in life. Roe v. 2 Dear Parishioners, FJB s Blog It is hard to believe that it is the end of August already and school has started! This has been a summer of transition with Fr. Scott being transferred, Fr. Thom and Fr. Tim joining us, and all of us learning to share the three priests with St. John of the Cross. Fr. Tim and Fr. Thom absolutely love it here and have already immersed themselves in the life of our parish. Thank you so much for your gracious welcome of them. They now know what I meant when I told them what awesome people are a part of our community. Speaking of awesome people, our Knights of Columbus are some of the best around. Together with the St. John of the Cross Knights, they hosted a picnic on August 15 for both parishes. A great time was had by all! These men are great men of service. Any man in our parish can be a Knight and I encourage you to consider joining them. It is a fraternity that also serves the church. or call me if you are interested in learning more about the Knights. As a community of faith one of our most important jobs is to call more people to the faith. Jesus instructed his disciples to go out and baptize all the nations. The way we can do this today is by inviting people to become a part of our faith. In a few weeks we will start the RCIA process. RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It is a journey for people considering becoming Catholic. The cool thing is that the first few months are just exploring, no major commitment. Do you know someone who is searching for a faith? Someone who was only baptized Catholic and never completed his/her Sacraments? Someone of another faith who desires to be Catholic? If so, please call or have them call Renee Barber or me at the Parish Office. I encourage you all to invite one or two people to the faith. What is the worst they can say? NO? Just invite let God do the rest. Over the last month or so the news has been filled with some very upsetting stories about the sexual misconduct of priests and Bishops and some grave sins against minors and other vulnerable groups. Many of my brother priests and I are very saddened to hear of this news. I hope and pray that our church leadership can work to continue to cleanse the church from these terrible atrocities. If there is any good news in this, it is that the vast majority of the cases they are referencing happened prior to In 2002, the US Bishops enacted what is known as the Dallas Charter and a 0 tolerance, one-strikeyou re-out policy. What is troubling is why some Bishops did not expose all these cases that happened prior to 2002 so that healing could occur! Fr. Thom, Fr. Tim, and I, on behalf of the Church, are so sorry for all the hurt this has caused. All we can say is that it is pure EVIL. The three of us are committed to continuing all of the good practices that we have here at the parish to ensure the safety of all minors and vulnerable people. If you have been affected by sexual abuse of any kind and need any sort of assistance or support, we stand ready to assist you and help you get the help you need. Let us all join in praying that our church can be cleansed of this evil and no person has to be harmed by this sort of grave sin ever again. See you in Church! Peace, Fr. John P.S. Mass Intentions Mass intentions are available year round. The book no longer opens March 1. Instead, Mass intentions are available 18 months out from the date you schedule the Mass intention. Please remember, we can schedule no more than 3 Masses per year for the same person. Mass Intentions can be for the deceased or the living. The suggested donation is $10.
