2 Fr. Tim s 1st Month s Musings Greetings! It has been an incredible first few weeks learning about this wonderful parish, and I have truly enjoyed meeting you and speaking with you (and seeing many of you again since I was here last as a deacon four years ago). It will take me a while to learn so many names, so please continue to tell me your name when you see me! Even though it has only been a month, I thought I would share with you some of my impressions of the parish in my experience so far, as well as some of my hopes for the future. Since I have arrived, I have been struck by so many amazing things happening here. One of the first things I noticed was how welcoming everyone is. I personally felt very loved and welcomed at the receptions during my first weekend here, and I can see how this joyful spirit presents a very inviting atmosphere for all, but especially for visitors, people exploring the Catholic faith, and individuals who may have been away from the faith for some time and may be considering returning. Such a welcoming environment can do so much for evangelization in drawing people into or back to the faith. The greeters and ushers play such a significant role in this ministry, and I am impressed by the warmth and kindness they exude as they extend their hospitality to those entering the church for worship. I am also struck by the faith of the people here. The Holy Spirit is moving here in a very special way, and it is tangible. I attribute it to the presence of the Blessed Sacrament offered in our 24-hour perpetual adoration chapel. I truly believe that the ability to pray before the living Jesus in the Eucharist makes all the difference in the world. It is apparent that this is a Eucharistic-centered community, which is to say, a Christ-centered community, and when we surrender all to Christ and let him take control, good things happen and there are a lot of good things happening here! If our lives are centered in Christ, they will also become more focused on the needs of others. I am impressed by the generosity of the people in this parish in the charitable giving of their time, talent, and treasure. I really enjoyed the community meal, and I am so thrilled to hear that this opportunity is made available to the public on a monthly basis. I am also very impressed by the staff here. It is apparent that they take pride in their work because they understand the link between what they do and how that serves the people of the parish. Not only do they have big hearts that desire to serve others, but they also center their lives around Christ, which gives their work meaning, purpose, and direction. It has been so refreshing to pray for the parish with them at staff meetings, hear their reflections on the Sunday Scriptures, and discuss how the living Word applies to their lives. I also love to see so many people on staff at our Sunday liturgies! What a blessing to this community! The staff s hard work allows for so many awesome opportunities for people to grow in their knowledge of the faith and relationship with Christ, as well as build community and support each other in prayer. I am absolutely blown away by the life and vibrancy of this place! It is inspiring to see so much liveliness in the groups, ministries, activities, and opportunities that this parish offers to grow in one s knowledge of the faith, relationship with Christ, and community with each other. I absolutely love that this parish offers FORMED as a resource for individuals to go deeper in their experience of the Catholic faith, as it allows parishioners to take ownership of their own continuing formation, on their own time, and at their own pace. I am also excited to see the presence of Small Church Communities that allow the opportunity for people to reflect on the Sunday Scriptures and become aware of how the living Word is acting in their lives, while preparing their hearts to encounter God in Word and Sacrament at the Sunday Liturgy. It is beautiful to see the outreach, recovery, and support groups offered, as well as the devotions and prayer groups. It is invigorating for my own faith to see so much life and vibrancy in a parish, and it is encouraging to witness the faith of its members! Aside from all of this, I can also tell that this is a parish that knows how to have fun! I have already taken part in a golf outing to benefit the LifeTeen program, I am planning to go with the teens to Cedar Point and perhaps even zip-lining, and I cannot wait for the Annual Festival and Taste of Nations! I have really enjoyed living, eating, and praying with Fr. John and Fr. Thom, as well as the seminarians that have been staying with us (Alex Spenik and Michael Garvin). The community they offer provides for a very healthy spiritual life, and I can honestly say that it has been a while since I have laughed as hard as I have with these guys this past month. Fr. Betters has helped me so much in making this transition, and I look forward to learning from his gifts in leadership and pastoral care as the shepherd of this parish. Over the next few years, I will be taking on many of the projects that previously belonged to Fr. Scott Goodfellow. I will be working with LifeTeen and Edge; I will continue the Colloquy group and other young adult activities; I will be helping Fr. Thom develop a post-cana group for married couples; I will help to oversee the Social Justice and Spiritual Life committees as well as the Small Church Communities; I will teach in the grade school/psr and work with the Confirmation program (among other things). I know there was much hope that I would take over BillyBob s Brewers, but sadly, I do not brew (although I would be happy to assist in quality control!) I also hope to offer a series on prayer that will address many of the roadblocks we encounter when we pray, a series on discerning the various voices in our lives based on the spirituality of St. Ignatius, as well as teaching Masses that will offer the opportunity to break down and explain the meaning of various symbols, gestures, and parts of the Mass to make our experience of Mass more meaningful and our experience of prayer more intentional. It has been an amazing month, and I look forward to these next four years. Be assured of my continued prayers for all of you, and please pray for me that I may be a worthy servant for you. God bless! -Fr. Tim Roth St. John of the Cross weekday Mass Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday at 8 am Tuesday & Thursday, 6:30 pm

SRW Rummage Sale and SJC Second Blessings Sale For a number of reasons we have decided to discontinue the SRW Rummage Sale that we usually hold in July. We want to thank everyone who has contributed to it over the years and all who worked it. We very much appreciate your help. Over the time we had it at SRW, we raised close to $30,000 for the parish. We know a lot of people liked to donate things to the sale so they could "declutter" and simplify their lives and homes. We encourage you to donate your items to St. John of the Cross Second Blessings Sale. SJC is now accepting donations for their Second Blessings Rummage Sale. They will accept your gently used treasures including houseware and kitchen items, clothing, furniture, and toys. Please note, they cannot accept upholstered furniture, tube televisions, or any broken items.
