2 FJB s Blog Fr. Scott Goodfellow Blog Dear Parishioners, This weekend we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, the crowning & consummation of our Easter Season. Christ wants to send among us His Advocate, the Holy Spirit. Along with the disciples, our role at Pentecost is to be available to God, to be ready & waiting in that Upper Room, the place of prayer & intimacy, and to cry out, Come, Holy Spirit! as we wait for the Holy Spirit to move us to action. Pay attention to the powerful flow of grace both inward and outward. Inwardly, we wait in the Upper Room for the gift of the Spirit, crying out, Come Holy Spirit! Outwardly, the Spirit sends us forth (He literally evicts us!) joyfully to sow the seeds of the Word in the good soil of the earth. The gift of Pentecost isn t a one-and-done deal. Pentecost continually forms us in Christ insofar as we remain open & receptive in our prayerful desire: Come, Holy Spirit! This persistent prayer works with the ongoing formation we receive at Mass with the Word & Eucharist, with our daily prayer, and with our practice of virtuous living. The more available we become for God, the more He is able to accomplish in us. Remain open to the Spirit every day, and step-by-step He will form you to be a great disciple no matter what ruts' you find yourself in at this time. This Saturday, May 19, Deacon Mike Feldtz became Father Mike Feldtz along with his classmates, Father Matt Cortnik and Father Rich Samide. These men have made themselves available to God, literally lying down on the floor by our cathedral altar. As Bishop Perez ordained them priests, Christ said Yes! to them, and they said Yes! to Christ in a permanent, eternal way. I m excited to see what the Holy Spirit will do with their Yes for the rest of their lives. Ordinations always cause me reflect on my own ordination to the priesthood four years ago on May 17, There, Christ & I said Yes to one another in an eternal way. My transfer to St. Mary Parish in Hudson on June 12 is simply an outpouring of that generous Yes of ordination. Jesus is giving me away as a gift to them, just as He is giving Fr. Tim Roth & Fr. Tom Kowatch as His gift to you. While I recognize the attachments people have to their priests (and the attachments priests have toward their parishioners), I pray that our attachments won t interfere with our availability to God and the gifts He sends. Often these gifts are surprises, unknowns, even interruptions of our daily flow of life. But since we are in God s hands, we should receive them with gratitude, and even eagerness, seeing them as the supernatural outcomes of Pentecost! As we wrap up another year in our SRW school this week, we also bless our 8th grade graduates who will celebrate Mass & Graduation Ceremony this Wednesday at 6:30 pm. They too are being sent from their place of comfort into new adventures, and we pray that they may remain available to God s plan for their lives.
3 2018 CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL IN-PEW COMMITMENT The 2018 Catholic Charities Annual Appeal is underway with an in-pew commitment process taking place this weekend. Many parishioners have received a letter from Bishop Perez requesting their support. If you have not received this letter, please respond to the in-pew commitment process today. For your convenience, the Appeal envelopes have been placed at the end of each pew. Thank you in advance for your generosity! Do you love a parade? Please join SRW families as we march in the Euclid Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 28 th in support of our military who sacrificed for our country. Proudly wear your SRW spirit wear. Please meet in front of Sims Park at 9:15 am. The parade will kick-off at 10:00 am. A Letter To The Students Before the new school year began, every teacher and staff member wrote a letter to the students he/she will be working with at Ss. Robert and William Catholic School. The letter includes the hopes and dreams each has for the students during the school year. This letter was written by Mr. Dan MacGregor. Mr. Mac- Gregor teaches Latin to the Upper School students. Dear Latin Student, I sincerely look forward to the coming year. With each term that passes, I hope that you will grow as a student of the ancient world just as I grow as your teacher. I hope you will hear things in my class that fire up your imagination and encourage you to learn more. I hope you will remember tidbits of my lessons when you encounter new vocabulary words in science or look at a map in social studies. I hope I will tell you something fascinating enough that you ll want to tell someone else about it. I hope I can make ancient cultures come alive in your mind, with the effect that you ask questions to learn more. I want you to understand enough about the ancient world that you can make sense of the culture that raised the early Church. What will make me most proud is if you begin to use the Latin you ll learn to share ideas and talk to friends. I greatly value every student who chooses my class, and I want you to know that my first mission is your safety and success while under my care. Gratias maximas tibi ago -- thank you very much. Magister Gregorius -- Mr. MacGregor
