2 FJB s Blog Dear Parishioners, While I have been back from the Holy Land and Italy for two weeks, it has been a few weeks since I wrote my blog. Thank you to Fr. Scott for filling in and writing two great reflections. It is hard to believe that Fr. Scott will be leaving in June. His term will be up, and the Bishop will give him a new assignment. It is really going to be hard to have him leave. He and his ministry have been such a blessing to our parish community! However, we have seven great months left, and we will enjoy every minute of it! I have been told by the Diocese that they do intend to replace Fr. Scott, possibly with a newly ordained or young priest from Fr. Scott s ordination class. We should feel very blessed the Diocese sees this parish as such a healthy parish to send young priests and seminarians. That is because of all of you and your wonderful support of all of them. My trip was awesome! Walking and praying in the places where Jesus lived and ministered was overwhelming, and I am still processing it all. Fr. Scott is going to the Holy Land right after Christmas for a pilgrimage. When he returns, he and I plan to share our experiences with all of you. As I mentioned, I did stop in Rome, Italy on my way back and spent three days visiting a priest friend who is studying there. I made it a point to go to the tomb of St. Robert, one of our patron Saints. I prayed especially for all of you there! As you may know my dog, Wags has moved to a retirement community. He moved to Chez Goodfellow (aka, Fr. Scott s parents home). Mrs. Goodfellow has graciously agreed to give Wags all of the love and care that he needs. In fact, I think she cares for Wags better than Fr. Scott when he is home on his day off. HAHA! It was a very hard decision for me, but I realized as he got older he needed more attention than I could give him and still be attentive to my duties here. I still have visiting rights! From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all of you who also loved, cared for, and spoiled Wags. As you may remember I inherited him from a parishioner. I was not an animal person but Wags opened my heart though I am still no St. Francis! There are a few events coming up that I would like to bring to your attention. Please mark your calendars: Today, Sunday, November 19, we are having a prayer service for Baby Raddell. Elizabeth (Liza) Hope is the newest little Raddell, who will be joining her parents, Nick and Ann Marie, and big sisters Ella and Emily, in mid-december. The family members are parishioners, and the girls go to our school. Ann Marie is a cantor at many of our Masses. She also teaches music in our school. Little Liza, like big sister Emily, has a preliminary diagnosis of MPS-1 (Hurler Syndrome). Hurler Syndrome is a genetic illness that causes the lack of an enzyme needed to break down waste in the body. As a result, undigested sugar molecules build up, causing progressive damage to the brain, heart, and other organs, as well as many complications with bones and joints. While there is no cure, there are treatment options to slow the progression of the illness. Liza will begin enzyme replacement therapy at birth and will undergo a Bone Marrow Transplant in April or May. The prayer service will be right after the 11 am Mass. I encourage you to come. Thanksgiving Day Mass will be November 23 at 9:00 am in the church. It might be one of my favorite Masses of the year because it is a beautiful, simple way to celebrate and thank God for all he has done for us and our country. We will have a simple reception after the Mass to enjoy some fellowship before we go to our family and friends to celebrate and eat. On Sunday, November 26, at the 9:00 am Mass, we will be welcoming seven people into our RCIA. For these catechumens and candidates, it is the first official step on their journey to becoming Catholic at the Easter Vigil. Please keep them in your prayers. Don t forget Bishop Perez will be making his first parish visit on Sunday, December 10 at the 11:00 am Mass. Let s pack the church to welcome him to our parish! Have a blessed Thanksgiving week! 3 REMINDER-RETURN OF WOMANKIND BABY BOTTLES Please remember to return your filled Baby Bottles to support the Womankind campaign during this upcoming Thanksgiving Weekend, November 25th&26th. Baskets will be placed in the vestibule of the Church to collect the baby bottles. Your support is deeply appreciated because it allows Womankind to continue to offer free prenatal care and a full range of support services to women all over Northeast Ohio. This ensures that no woman has to face a pregnancy without hope or help! Thank you! Please join Father Sal on Friday, December 8 at 7:00 pm at Saint John of the Cross, 140 Richmond Road, Euclid, for a concert and reception to celebrate the release of his inspirational Christian music CD Blessed Beyond Measure. Hear a selection of songs from the CD performed live, and then gather to share food and fellowship. We look forward to celebrating this event with you! Tots Preschool Program Who: 2-3 year old children (must be 2 years old by May 1, 2017) accompanied by an adult for each entire session. What: An opportunity for children to enjoy a school experience with a familiar adult. The sessions will include arts & crafts, stories, music, small and large motor activities, and a snack. Where: Ss. Robert and William Catholic Preschool in Mrs. Ralph s and Mrs. Pfriem s classroom. When: 5 Tuesdays (11/21, 11/28, 12/5, 12/12, and 12/19/2017) *Come to one or all five! 4 SPIRITUAL FAITH FORMATION Women s Fellowship Heads up, heads up! Our annual Women s Fellowship Advent Breakfast is on the horizon. It will be held in the Upper Hall on Saturday, December 9 from 9-11:00 am. Marianne Betters, who always puts her own special spin, warmth, and humor into her presentations, will be our guest speaker. Her topic will be Patience: God Is Not Finished Yet. Reservations can be made by calling the Rectory, or srwwomensfellowship@gmail.com by December 4. Due to popularity of this event NO LATE RESERVATIONS ACCEPTED. In conjunction with the Beatification of Father Solanus Casey occurring this weekend, we want to take a moment to give a special thank you to all the members of the Father Solanus Casey Hospitality Ministry for the gifts they bring to our parish throughout the year. These folks step up to the plate with very generous spirits each and every time they're called upon, providing not only food and drink in abundance but a welcoming spirit to all. In recent months, they have shared their gifts with us at the receptions for the 60th anniversary celebrations of Vocational life for both Sr. Irene and Father Baugh; an Apple-palooza on the Feast of St. Robert; A post All Soul's Mass reception, and a reception in celebration of our new digital piano. THANK YOU FATHER SOLANUS CASEY MINISTRY MEMBERS FOR CONTINUING TO BLESS US WITH YOUR GIFTS! The poor are the center of the Church. But who are the poor? At first we might think of people who are not like us: people who live in slums, people who go to soup kitchens, people who sleep on the streets, people in prisons, mental hospitals, and nursing homes. But the poor can be very close. They can be in our own families, churches or workplaces. Even closer, the poor can be ourselves, who feel unloved, rejected, ignored, or abused. It is precisely when we see and experience poverty - whether far away, close by, or in our own hearts - that we need to become the Church; that is, hold hands as brothers and sisters, confess our own brokenness and need, forgive one another, heal one another's wounds, and gather around the table of Jesus for the breaking of the bread.
