2 November 22, 2015 St. Kevin R.C. Church Page 2 From the Administrator... We had very successful events last weekend. On Saturday, there was a nice turnout of parishioners for the Anointing of the Sick Mass. Afterwards, the Confirmation candidates and their parents provided a wonderful luncheon for those who attended. On behalf of Bishop Chappetto, I thank the young people and their parents and other volunteers who made the afternoon so enjoyable! On Sunday, the Girl Scouts sponsored a blood drive, and they were very happy with the response of our parishioners to donate blood. That afternoon, the Glenn Mohr Chorale performed Ordinary Saints in our church. Again, there was a nice turnout of parishioners and those who attended really enjoyed the inspiring and beautiful production. We look forward to inviting the Chorale back in the future! Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe (Christ the King). Another liturgical year comes to an end, and we prepare ourselves for the first Sunday of Advent next weekend. While we sometimes make personal resolutions on January 1 st, perhaps this week can give us the chance to take a spiritual inventory and to make resolutions to pray more often, go to confession regularly, do works of mercy, etc. as a new Church year begins. Looking ahead, I would like to draw your attention to things that will be happening over the next few weeks: Advent Giving Tree and Toys for Tots December 8 Jubilee Year of Mercy begins December 12/13 Holy Land Wood Carving Sale after all Masses Blessing of Baby Jesus from your home nativity scenes December 13 St. Vincent de Paul Clothing Drive Breakfast with Santa December 14 Advent Reconciliation Monday (Confessions from 4:00 to 8:00 PM) December 20 Advent Concert presented by our parish choirs On this Sunday, we have the Wills and Estates Seminar at 1:00 PM in the Parish Center. On Monday, November 23 rd at 7:30 PM, the Church on the Hill (168 th Street and 35 th Avenue) will host the annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Prayer Service. Of course, on Thanksgiving Day we will celebrate Mass at 9:00 AM since Thanksgiving is a time to offer thanks and praise to God for all of His goodness, there is no better way to begin the holiday than by coming to church for Mass. Please bring an item of food from your Thanksgiving table for a blessing at Mass on Thursday. Theodore Roosevelt The Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Prayer Service will take place on Monday, November 23rd, at 7:30 P.M. at Church on the Hill (168th Street & 35th Avenue). We hope that many of our parishioners and friends will join us as we thank God for His many blessings that he has bestowed on our families Remembrance Book We are reminded (in the Order of Christian burial) that in the waters of Baptism we have died with Christ and we rise with Him in new life. During the month of November, we will have our Book of Remembrance placed in front of the Baptismal Font. We invite you to write the names of your family members and friends who have died and are now with the Lord in Paradise. Thanksgiving is approaching and we are beginning to plan for our Annual Thanksgiving Food Collection scheduled for Tuesday, November 24th. We would like to continue our long tradition of collecting boxes containing a complete dinner for a family. The baskets can be dropped off in the church parking lot on Tuesday night between 6:30 and 7:30 P.M. If you are unable to contribute a box containing a complete meal, why not join with a friend or two and put one together? If you would prefer to make a free-will donation at the Thanksgiving Day Mass, we will use the money to help needy families at Christmas. If you have any questions, please contact the rectory ( ). St. Kevin Rosary Society News The Rosary Society will gather at the 10 A.M. Mass on Sunday, December 6th. Please remember to sit in the pews in front of the Blessed Mother. We will have our Christmas Social on Tuesday, December 8th in the Parish Center beginning at 7 P.M. The cost is $15, which you can pay at the door, and includes sandwiches, fruit and dessert. Please rsvp by Saturday, December 5th if you are coming by calling Marge at or Betty at St. Kevin Senior Club meets on Tuesday afternoons from 1:30 to 4:30 P.M. in the Parish Center. Our next trip to Empire City Casino will be on Monday, November 30th. Your cost is $25 and you receive the package of the day and when you earn 8 points you get an additional $8. For reservations, please call Sam at Line Dancing will take place on Dec. 4th, 11th & 18th, in the Parish Center from 7 to 10PM. The cost is $5 & includes light refreshments. Call Emilie at for information. Stewardship Thought The exchange between Jesus and Pilate in today s Gospel is, arguably, the most important exchange in all of literature. Pilate asks Jesus: What have you done? Jesus replies that he testifies to the truth. In the second reading we are reminded of the essence of that truth: Christ, ruler of all, loves us. liberates us from the bonds of sin, makes us a new kingdom. As we approach the Advent season, this week would be a good time to reflect on the question: What have we done in our daily lives, in our actions, words, private prayer and in our interaction with others, to testify that Jesus is Lord?
