2 April 1, 2018 St. Kevin R.C. Church Page 2 Q. Can you give us an update on the work being done on the Church and the Academy? A. Yes, surely! The work on the Academy is almost finished. The work on the church is still in progress and we are hoping and praying that it will be finished by June 3rd, the feast day of St. Kevin, when Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio will come to the parish to bless the newly renovated buildings. We will invite everyone to attend the 12:00 Noon Mass that day to greet the Diocesan Bishop, celebrate Mass with him and then join in a light luncheon to follow. Of course, fundraising is ongoing to pay for the work. Your continued generosity is deeply appreciated and gratefully acknowledge. Rejoice and Be Glad! During the first three or four centuries of Christianity, if you asked a Christian to name the feast days of the church, your answer would have been a puzzled stare, for there was only one feast: the Resurrection of the Lord. Every Sunday was a feast celebrating the one great feast. Even though our calendar now has many beautiful and holy feasts, we must continually be called back to the fact that all these other feasts exist because of the feast of Christ s passover from death to life. The psalm today proclaims this message well: This is the day. It is not one of many days, but it is the day of all days, the one that gives all the others their origin, purpose, meaning, and destiny. Listen carefully to Peter s speech in Acts with its recollection of the Passion, to the words of the apostle Paul, and to the account of Mary Magdalene, John, and Peter finding the empty tomb, and you will hear the many wonderful works that God has done for us through Christ. The community of St. Kevin welcomes Oscar and assures him of our continued prayers and support! The Paschal Candle that was blessed at the Easter Vigil, which will be used throughout the Liturgical Year, has been lovingly donated by Dr. & Mrs. Hugh McGowan In Thanksgiving. The Flowers that decorate the Sanctuary during the Easter Season have been generously donated by the Parishioners of St. Kevin.

4 April 1, 2018 St. Kevin R.C. Church Page 4 My Personal Vocation Story - Giuditta Coccia As I look back and consider my life, I see how the Lord was always present in my journey. I feel within myself a deep sense of gratitude toward the Lord for leading me "mysteriously" as I travel on this journey. I would like to share with you some personal experiences of my vocation story that I will continue to treasure for the rest of my life. My father was anxious to have a daughter and because he loved me very much, he also spoiled me. My mother was a woman of deep faith, who gave me a SPECIAL KISS when I came home after receiving the Eucharist. I was the baby in the family and I liked it. My only brother was very intelligent and outgoing, and as a result, I followed him closely and almost blindly. When my mother had major surgery, I was only seven years old and was sent to my uncle's house. I didn't like the idea. I cried and cried and I was very mean to my cousins because I missed my family. As my mother started to recover, I became even more aware of her faith, the faith that urged her to ask the Lord to allow her to live long enough to raise her children. She took advantage of every opportunity to instill the love of God in my brother and myself. It was through her teaching and example that I discovered that the faith I received was a gift, a precious gift to treasure. I also began to realize that it was the reason my mother accepted her sickness and trusted that God would allow her to bring children to maturity. When I was in my last year of high school, I was having a great time: riding a bike, playing tennis, going to parties, and going to the mountains during the winter vacation and to the beach in the summer. Yet, it was also during this time that I felt the Lord was calling me by name. One day, a very dear friend of mine told me she was regularly going to see and talk to a priest about her life and her future. I went to confession to this priest and, after receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, he asked me: "What do you think the Lord wants from you?" I didn't hesitate to say that I felt called to a life of service, to a consecrated life. His answer was: We will discuss this further and discern together. The secret of my vocation was revealed. Although I felt better, I was also very fearful and I was questioning the Lord to see if he was really asking me to renounce the idea of having my own family. While I dealt with my doubts, I continued enjoying youthful activities and adventures, but also spent years of prayer and discernment until I finally felt confident enough to tell my mother in a very open and straightforward way: I received support, I shared my difficulties, and I was given all that I needed because he taught me how to deepen my relationship with the Lord and how to trust Him. Several difficult years went by. I was now 25 years old and my mother, after much suffering, died. A few months later, I started my specific formation in the Institute of the Apostolic Oblates while I was working and taking care of my father who needed a great deal of help. It was a real challenge! Nevertheless, I assisted my father until the last moment and after his death I joined the Apostolic Oblates in their community life. Soon, however, I was faced with new challenges! I was asked to leave Rome, the beautiful city in which I was born. I would also have to leave my only brother and his family, my friends, and all that was familiar to me. I was to be sent to the United States where I would have to learn a new language, live in a new apostolic community, undertake new work, and a new ministry. Needless to say, it was a big surprise; I had to repeat my yes. I had to accept new challenges! I repeated my prayer: "You, Lord are
