4 Spiritual Life A special Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated on All Souls Day, Thursday, November 2nd at 7 pm. Anyone who has lost a loved one this past year who did not receive an invitation or who was not buried from St. Barnabas and would like to participate in this liturgy by presenting a candle in memory of your loved one is asked to call the rectory at and leave the name of the deceased to be included in the liturgy. MASS IN HONOR OF ALL SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN, PAST AND PRESENT On Sunday, November 12, 2017 at 10:00 am the faith community of St. Barnabas will gather to celebrate A Mass in Honor of All Military Service Men and Women, Past and Present. As we come together to celebrate the Eucharist, we will honor all the women and men who have served and who are currently serving our country. We come together to pray for peace. We come together at God s banquet to continue the quest for a just world. We come together in a spirit of hope. We invite members of the military, and their families and friends, to join our parish as we celebrate and support their service and dedication to our country. Father Ronald Stake, former chaplain for the US Navy, will be the main celebrant and homilist for the liturgy. Administration PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING THE ST. BARNABAS FINANCE BOARD The St. Barnabas Finance Board is looking to fill two positions. Are you interested in helping the parish oversee and manage its financial resources? Serving in an advisory capacity to the Pastor, this group assembles and reviews the annual parish budget, approves the school budget, reviews monthly income and expense budgets and oversees the parish s financial investments. To apply, please send a letter of interest to Fr. Donovan including information about yourself and any relevant experience you may have in the fields of financial management or accounting. 6 The St. Barnabas Peace and Justice Committee recently joined forces with the same group from Christ the King parish to create "Southside Catholic Peace and Justice". We hope to build a strong coalition that, in time, will include other local parishes so that we might have the greatest impact. At our first joint meeting we decided to focus our energy on immigration issues and combating violence in our city. The new committee would like to invite all Barnabas parishioners to a night out at The Blue House! The Blue House is The Catholic Youth Ministry Center at Morgan Park High School. They provide afterschool programming including conflict resolution, mentoring, and anti-violence initiatives. LOSS PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH The Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide (LOSS) Program for Children and Youth continues to meet with bereaved children and adolescents who have lost a loved one to suicide. This specialized grief support program provides individual counseling and group support for child and teen survivors. Counseling is offered in various Chicagoland locations.
