2 The Pastor s Mutterings Imagine a young man greeting his date with, Wow, you really look ordinary tonight! Or a TV advertiser, hawking a new product telling viewers, You ll really want to try this. It's absolutely ordinary! The word ordinary holds slightly negative connotations for us. So, here we are at the beginning of ordinary time in the church year, which will continue until Lent, and then take up again after Pentecost. Yet today and in the coming Sundays we will hear some extraordinary and profound scripture readings and themes. This weekend we hear the familiar story of the wedding feast at Cana of Galilee, where Jesus did a remarkable thing he turned water into wine to prevent embarrassment to a young couple. When the chief steward tasted the new wine, he thought the groom had saved the best wine until last. He missed the miracle. A momentous occasion had transpired, an unbelievable event had just occurred, but the chief steward was not aware, or did not understand. By taking the time to look a little more deeply, by trying to find what is extraordinary even in the ordinary, mundane moments and events of our lives, perhaps we might discover that we, too, are witnesses to something miraculous. May God open our eyes and hearts to see the wonder, mystery, and beauty all around us ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL BEGINS they left everything and followed Him. (Luke 5:11) Administration Many of our parishioners either have or soon will receive a mailing from Cardinal George. He will ask that you make a pledge to the 2010 Annual Catholic Appeal. The Annual Catholic Appeal is the largest philanthropic source of financial support for ALL of the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese. This year, the theme of the Appeal is, they left everything and followed Him. This familiar phrase from the story of the Apostles walking away from their livelihoods and their worldly possessions to follow Jesus is a familiar one. But, how often do we reflect on their example as it applies to our lives. At the core of discipleship is the practice of stewardship. Stewardship is the recognition that all that we have is a gift from God and we are obligated to return a significant portion of our gifts to assist in his work. Our gifts are to be given in gratitude for what God has given us. A gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal helps to provide education, services, and ministry to thousands within and outside of our Archdiocese. Please prayerfully consider a pledge to the 2010 Annual Catholic Appeal.

Any questions please contact Rob McDonald at Neighborhood News SOUTH SIDE IRISH PARADE NEWS The South Side Irish Parade Committee is pleased to announce the creation of the South Side Irish Parade Family Fest, a culturally-rich St. Patrick s Day celebration to be held on March 13, Hosted in conjunction with the Beverly Arts Center, this daylong event will feature many traditional Irish activities. The evening will culminate with a performance by Hothouse Flowers, a world-renowned band hailing from Ireland that combines traditional Irish music with influences from soul, gospel and rock. The South Side Irish Parade Family Fest will also be featuring a Grand Raffle. The Grand Raffle will be a major source of funding for the fest, so the parade committee encourages all community residents to consider supporting the raffle.
