Smith - Children FATIMA ANNIVERSARY MASS: All of the faithful of the diocese are invited to join Bishop Nelson J. Perez in a special Mass celebrating the closing of the anniversary celebration of the apparitions of the Blessed Mother at Fatima, Portugal in The Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning, October 7 th at 10:00am in St. John Cathedral in downtown Cleveland. Please join the bishop in this special moment honoring Our Lady. Parking is available on the surface lot behind the Cathedral. MASS COUNT: The annual Mass attendance count, requested by the diocese, is intended to provide an accurate comprehensive profile for the entire diocese, as well as a source of information for use in local parish planning and ministry. The development of a valid profile of typical attendance requires that the count be done at a common time that is not affected by such events as vacations, holiday weekends, harsh weather or special liturgical celebrations. This year we will conduct the count this weekend and next. You hear me often talk about reaching out to those who need support. This is one group that often falls between the cracks and can be disconnected from the parish and Church.

There is an insert in today s bulletin with details, but basically, it is asking parishioners to adopt a college student.

Cards of support as well as a care package are possible things that could be done.

2 The Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Pastor s Corner: College students have been back to school for some time now. The initial excitement has now been replaced with the daily projects, labs, classes and yes stress! It is also not unusual for youth at that age to be questioning their beliefs and faith. You hear me often talk about reaching out to those who need support. This is one group that often falls between the cracks and can be disconnected from the parish and Church. To reach out to support our youth during their college years we are starting a new ministry thanks to Mary Manning. This new ministry is School Ties. There is an insert in today s bulletin with details, but basically, it is asking parishioners to adopt a college student. And no, by adopting a college student you are not responsible for paying their tuition. You would be praying for them and letting them know that the community has not forgotten them. Cards of support as well as a care package are possible things that could be done. If you have a child that is a college student let us know and if you would like to be a team member who will support a college student please fill out the form that is attached to the insert in the bulletin. Can you list the 10 Commandments? Continuing in our Blessed program we look at how we are blessed that God has provided us with resources to help us so that we can make good decisions. As the book says: God does not expect us to be wise and learn to make great decisions on our own. He gives us guidance. God gives us directions which are designed to help us to live happy and holy lives by guiding us to make great decisions. We have the 10 Commandments, the Beatitudes and Church Teaching that we can turn to for guidance in making decisions. This week look over the 10 Commandments and the Beatitudes and reflect upon how you use these to make great decisions both small and big each day. Our only desire and our one choice should be this: I want and I choose what better leads to God deepening his life in me. St. Ignatius of Loyola. Fr John EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION: The diocesan training for those interested in being commissioned to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass and to the sick will be taking place soon. Those seeking to become Eucharistic Ministers need to attend a diocesan training session as well as an orientation session in the parish. The options for training sessions close by are: Sunday, October 8 St. Peter Parish, Center Ridge Rd. N. Ridgeville; 2:00-4:30pm Sunday, October 22 St. Martin of Tours Parish 1800 Station Rd. Valley City; 2:00-4:30pm SAVE THE DATE: November 2 nd at 7:00pm. We will be remembering on this All Soul s Day those who have died, especially those who have died in the past year from our parish. LIVING ROSARY: Thursday, October 26 th at 7:00pm we will be praying the rosary in the church. Each bead of the rosary is led by a member of a parish ministry who sit forming the rosary, thus the term Living Rosary. Bring your rosary and join in the prayer as we recognize October as the Month of the Rosary. PRO-LIFE MASS, ROSARY & CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION: Please join us in prayer for an end to abortion and for world peace. This grace-filled evening will take place at St. Vincent de Paul Church, North Ridge Rd., Thursday, October 12 th. Mass will begin at 7:00pm, followed by the Rosary and a beautiful candlelight procession to the outdoor shrine of Our Lady of Fatima. Refreshments will be served afterwards. This will be a wonderful way to celebrate the 100 th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima! SCRIPTURE STUDY: Our scripture study of Women in the Old Testament is very exciting and will cover lesson Eight of Nine (pg ) & pgs in the study guide, on Thursday October 12 th at 7:00pm in room 2 of the hall. All are welcome to take part or just come and listen to an enlightening and faithful discussion. Please approach this study with your heart open and a desire for understanding of GOD s WORD. They are in need of large size diapers 4-6. They also need clean, used clothing for preemies up through size 7. Coats, jackets, gloves, boots and scarves. NO HATS. As winter approaches these items would be greatly appreciated. Of course monetary donations are always welcome. We will collect your donations at all masses the weekend of October 14/15. Birthright gives out emergency packs of diapers every month, almost 2,800 last year. This is a great way to help these young women who have decided to give life to their children, instead of accepting the lies of the abortion industry. Thank you and God Bless. FLU SHOTS: The Parish Nurse program will have flu shots available after all masses on Saturday, October 7 th and Sunday, October 8 th. The traditional and high dose vaccine for people over the age of 65 will be available. Insurance cards are needed for billing or individuals can be billed directly. Pharmacist Jason Buga from Drug Mart will be administering the shots. The traditional flu shot will be $30 and the high dose will be $55. No payment is due at the time of the clinic. Insurances will be billed or the person can opt to receive a bill. Now is the time to get protected from the flu so take advantage of this opportunity. GENESIS HOUSE: Did you know that October is Domestic Violence Month? Did you wonder what the purple ribbon on the pew in the church is for? Working with Genesis House of Lorain County we are participating in Empty Seat at the Table. We have a pew reserved for two women who have lost their lives due to domestic violence in the Grafton area. Please take a moment to read their story on the article in the pew. For more information about Genesis House pick up a card in the Gathering Area and go to their website: FIRST STEP PROGRAM: Attempting to pick up the pieces of one s life after the tragedy of divorce is an area that can impact a person s relationship with God and the Church. The Tribunal of the Diocese of Cleveland offers its First Step Program to help individuals deal with these questions in order to renew and/or strengthen their relationship with God and the Church. This program is offered to help everyone, especially those who have experienced divorce, learn more about Catholic teaching regarding marriage, divorce, and remarriage. Representatives from the Ministry to the Divorced Office of the Department for Marriage and Family Ministry will also be present to explain the resources they offer to the divorced. Everyone is welcome to: Deepen knowledge of the Church s teaching on marriage Learn about the Church s ministry to the divorced/separated in the Diocese Hear about the annulment process and how to submit a case Discover a path to healing after divorce in order to strengthen and/or renew a relationship with God and the Church In any endeavor, taking the first step is always the most difficult. We will travel to Beriswill Farms in Valley City for their corn maze & hayride. We will have pizza after the 4:30pm mass and will leave the church at 6:00pm returning at 10:00pm. Cost is $8 per person, plus any money for snacks at the farm. All participating youth must have a signed permission form (can be printed from parish website, go to ministries- youth). Bring a flashlight and come dressed for the weather - boots or old shoes are a good idea for walking the maze. Friends always welcome! If you are attending please call / text Jen Filipiak at so rides can be arranged. SENIORS LUNCHEON: The October Senior Luncheon will be held on Thursday, October 12 th at 11:30am. Please bring a dish to share. Meat will be provided. The speaker will be from the Grafton Police Department. PARISH INFORMATION Weddings: Couples need to make arrangements at least six months prior to the wedding date. Baptism: Baptisms are celebrated at a mutually convenient time. Please call the office to make arrangements. Ministry to the Sick: Please notify the office for visits to parishioners in the hospital. New parishioners: Are asked to register as soon as possible at the Parish Office or by phone. Inquiry Classes in the Catholic Religion: Persons interested in becoming Catholic are asked to contact the Parish Office for information about the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, RCIA. FAMILY PROMISE: Family Promise will be welcoming Lorain County families the week of October 22 nd. We will have signups in the Gathering Area on October 7/8 and October 14/15. We need about 60 volunteers to make this a successful week. Please consider supporting our neighbors in need. There are many different ways to volunteer. Please see us at the table or call Linda , Christine , or Judy KNIGHT S ANNUAL PORK ROAST: The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Knights of Columbus will hold their annual pork roast on October 8, Dinners will be served from 12:30 to 4:00pm and carry outs will be available. The meal includes slow roasted pulled pork, baked beans, applesauce or coleslaw, roll, and dessert. Prices remain at $13 for adults; $12 for seniors; and kids under 12 $9.50. Proceeds help our scholarship fund. The church is located at Royalton Road, Columbia Station. See you there! LADIES' NIGHT OUT: The committee members are asking for donations of gift cards and new items that can be put in raffle baskets for our November 11 th event. All donations are greatly appreciated and can be dropped off in the Parish Office during normal business hours through October. Proceeds from our event will be given to OLQP general fund. Thank You! CABBAGE ROLLS: The Saint Agnes Church Altar and Rosary Society is taking Cabbage Roll orders until October 9 th. Pick up is 2:00-2:30pm on Thursday, October 19 th at the Saint Agnes Church Hall, 611 Lake Avenue in Elyria. A dozen uncooked cabbage rolls are $12.00 each.
