The Trinity is symbolized by the three travelers to the tent of Abraham and Sarah. They are seated at a table blessing a cup of wine, under the oak of Mamre. If you look closely, you will see a sacrificed calf in the chalice, reminding the viewer of the cross. The table, prepared for eating and tilted toward the viewer, is an invitation to the Eucharist. From left to right, each figure is keyed to a person of the Trinity. Like all icons, this image is theology in art. The persons are equal in proportion and dignity, they all carry staffs to symbolize their power, and are shown with golden wings and halos. Today, the best place to see Rublev s work is the Holy Trinity Cathedral, at the heart of the vast Holy Trinity monastery about an hour from Moscow. After decades of persecution, it is now once again a living monastery, a world heritage site, and the spiritual home of Russian Orthodoxy. A Google visit is highly recommended today! Rev. It had been lit at the Easter Vigil, and throughout the 50 days of Easter was burning brightly in the sanctuary as a reminder of Christ s victory over darkness. The Paschal candle will now only be lit for baptisms and for funerals. Although it was done unceremoniously at the conclusion of our Pentecost celebrations, the carrying out of the Paschal candle signified our role in now carrying the Light of Christ to our homes, workplaces, schools and communities. Having celebrated for 50 days our Resurrection faith, there is an urgency now to share this faith with others. It is allowing the Light of Christ that is burning brightly within us to shine forth into the lives of everyone we encounter. In the gospel for this weekend (Matt. 28:16-20) we hear the Great Commission of Jesus to go out to all the world, making disciples of all nations. It is the Light of Christ that we take with us to bring the Good News to others. And how? Simply by letting others know what God has done for you. In the 1 st reading from Deuteronomy we hear Moses recalling for the people what God has done for them. What has God done for you? How have you experienced God in your life? We can answer that question by finishing the sentence, if God had not been there at that time in my life I never could have We know God by reflecting upon our human experiences. It is our experience of what God has done in our lives that shines forth for others to see. That is what evangelization consists of! That is how we fulfill our obligation to make disciples of all the nations! And if you are still reticent to share your experiences, your faith with others, hear the words of St. Paul in the 2 nd reading (Romans 8:14-17), for you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear We are led by the Spirit of God not the spirit of fear! ORDINARY TIME: After our full participation in the forty days of Lent, the Triduum, and the fifty days of Easter, we now return to counting or numbering the weeks, not the days, of the liturgical year. Ordinary Time, which will take us through the summer and fall, comprises the thirty or so weeks that are not marked by major feasts. The longest stretch of Ordinary Time begins after Evening Prayer on the Solemnity of Pentecost and continues up to the start of the new liturgical year on the First Sunday of Advent. The seasons of the Church reflect the rhythms of our lives, with peak moments and times of quiet growth. The liturgical color of Ordinary Time, green, reminds us that this is still a season of growth in our discipleship, a time to continue maturing into the followers of Jesus Christ we are meant to be. There will be entertainment, games, exhibits, festival food and of course fireworks. The website is now updated with the latest information about the festival festival. Raffle tickets are available after masses in the Gathering Area along with Flyers, Sponsor, Basket and 5K forms. The rescheduled Festival Meeting is Thursday, May 31 st at 7:00pm in the parish hall. CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION AND BENEDICTION FOR LIFE: You are invited to participate in the 7 th annual Corpus Christi Procession and Benediction for Life on Sunday, June 3 rd, at Preterm abortuary, Shaker Boulevard, Cleveland, Fr. Dave Baugh will begin the service at 2:00pm at Preterm, followed by a procession, and returning for a closing benediction. Shouldn t we be good stewards of our inheritance, using our time, talent and treasure to care for the Church that God has left to us? Our Church is a treasured heirloom from God.
