Mark your calendars and plan to join in prayer for those who have died and for those who are grieving their death. ALL SAINTS DAY November 1 st is a Holy Day of Obligation celebrating the Communion of Saints. Masses will be at 9:00am and 7:00pm in the church. ALL SOULS: We will be remembering all those who have died, especially those who have died in the past year with mass, on Wednesday, November 2 nd at 7:00pm in the church. CEMETERY SERVICE: There will be a prayer service at St. Mary Cemetery at 2:00pm on Sunday, November 6 th. We will be remembering in prayer all those buried at the parish cemetery as well as all our beloved dead. In case of inclement weather we will hold the prayer service in the chapel. NOVEMBER MASSES: Until the First Sunday of Advent, November 27 th, we will be remembering at all the Masses those who are listed in the parish Book of the Dead. There will be an opportunity to add the names of your loved ones who have died to the book beginning November 1 st. WELCOME BISHOP GRIES! Most Reverend Roger W. Gries, OSB, retired Auxiliary Bishop of Cleveland, will be presiding at the 4:30pm Mass next Saturday, October 29 th as we celebrate our parish s 10 th anniversary. A social will follow the mass in the Gathering Area where there will be a display of significant moments in the parish s life. ST. MARY S CEMETERY: Please remove all decorations by Sunday, November 23 rd in preparation for the Christmas season. Any decorations left after that date will be removed by the cemetery staff. Shepherd hooks need not be removed. New decorations may be placed on or after Friday, November 28 th. During the construction phase of the church I learned patience and how to work various opinions and personalities into a design for a worship space that would make everyone feel at home.

As I look back I see that the community has stretched me in many ways, helping me to become a better person. Over the years I have entered into your lives during joyful times as well as during illness and death. You have challenged me to give of myself and to set aside my selfishness and fears. The work at combining the parishes together taught me much about faith and tradition. During the construction phase of the church I learned patience and how to work various opinions and personalities into a design for a worship space that would make everyone feel at home. I look back over ten years and see growth in myself which leads me to see missed opportunities to minister to others as well as seeing how I have hurt others through my words and actions. I see growth but I also see where more changes are needed. The same thing goes for the parish as well. As a community we have grown in ministries and outreach and yet there is so much more that needs to happen. How does this happen? In the first parish bulletin 10 years ago I wrote about the struggle that I and the Establishment Committee had in trying to plan the Establishment Mass. We wanted what I called a WOW factor and we could not come up with it. It was then that we realized that we already had it. I wrote: What we are doing here in gathering as one community in the Eucharist is the WOW experience. The Eucharist is the sacrament of unity and as such we are gathering for the first time as one community. With no other Masses this weekend, this truly is two former parishes coming together as one in the Eucharist. Now the challenge is to go forth and to live what we have celebrated We leave here as a new parish community, and in the months ahead we have the task of developing this one community into a stronger and vibrant faith community. It is as a community gathered around the altar that has enabled us individually and as a whole to be transformed. The Eucharist is the center of our faith which transforms us and stretches us. Nourished by the Real Presence we become what we consume. As we celebrate 10 years together, may we continue to be centered in the Eucharist where we are transformed into one body, a vibrant growing faith community seeking to share our faith in Jesus Christ through prayer, devotion, education, stewardship and service to others. Some question whether it is appropriate for the Church to play a role in political life. However, the obligation to teach about moral values should shape our lives, including our public lives, is central to the mission given to the Church by Jesus Christ. POLITICAL CAMPAIGN LITERATURE: The following is a statement from the diocese regarding campaign literature: Distributing (or permitting the distribution of) voter education materials on parish property that are biased with respect to any candidate, political party or PAC. Many voters guides are put out by interested groups and could be construed as biased in favor of or against a particular candidate. If a parish distributes a biased voters guide or permits others to distribute biased voters guides on the parish property, the IRS could conclude that the parish is engaging in prohibited campaign intervention. In light of this, and because it would be difficult for parishes to make individualized determinations as to which voters guides could be considered bias, Bishop Lennon has directed that the only voters guides that parishes may distribute or allow to be distributed are those that come from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Ohio Catholic Conference, or the Diocese of Cleveland. SPOT LIGHT: Our spotlight next weekend will feature the Knights of Columbus. HIGH SCHOOLERS, YOU ARE NEEDED! Just as you work hard at improving at sports, games, and activities, we also need to continue to work on the faith aspect of our lives just as much. There is a high school level class (non-confirmation) that is led by you: What do you want to discuss? What are your questions, what are your concerns? What do others your age think? Give it a try at lease once. We meet in the children s room in the church from 9:35-10:50am. The next dates are October 30, November 6, 20 and December 4 & 11. All high schoolers, including friends are welcome. There is no preregistration nor a fee. Call/Text Joe Filipiak for more info at LITURGICAL MINISTERS: All Eucharistic Ministers, Servers, Lectors and Greeters are asked to submit their special request forms for the next scheduling period (December - February 2016). Please remember to request mass times for Christmas. If you do not request a specific mass you will be randomly scheduled. Request forms need to be received by Monday, November 7 th. FIRST FRIDAY FORUM: Please join us on Friday, November 4 th from 11:30-1:00pm in the Spitzer Conference Center with speaker Bishop Richard Lennon. MASS COORDINATIORS: There will be a training session for anyone interested in becoming a Mass Coordinator on Thursday, November 17 th at 6:30pm in the church. PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY: Catholics across the country will be celebrating Priesthood Sunday on October 30, It is a day set aside to celebrate the importance of the gift of priesthood in the life of the Church. It is a time for us to reflect on the ministry that our priests share with us when we gather at the Table of the Lord when we call in our time of need. Consider sharing a personal note or card of thanks. Together we pray that many of our young people will be inspired by the ministry and witness of our priests. May their hearts be open to hearing and responding to God s call in their lives. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: As a member of the Knights of Columbus, a man does not only strengthen his faith in the here and now. Through his support of community and Church, he will form friendships with his fellow Knights that can last a lifetime. And, he can do his part to make a difference in our parish, our community and our world for generations to come.
