BAMBINELLI SUNDAY: (December 16/17): Next weekend you are invited to bring the Christ Child figure from your Nativity scene to Mass to be blessed. This tradition comes from Rome where on the Third Sunday of Advent, children gather with their families in St. Peter s Square for Bambinelli Sunday. The children bring the figure of the Christ Child from their Nativity scene and the pope blesses the children and figurines during the noontime Angelus prayer. Because there were many adults who also wished to bring their figurine last year we are opening it to everyone and not just children this year! And if your family would like to carry the Christ Child for the parish Nativity scene in the opening procession for the Christmas masses please sign up in the St. Joseph room or call the parish office. CHRISTMAS FLOWER OFFERING: Deceased loved ones can be remembered through the Christmas Flower Offering. An envelope for this offering was in the November packet or you can submit names and donations in a plain envelope and mark Christmas Flowers on the outside. Memorial names will be posted on the bulletin board this Christmas. Please submit the names by December 13 th to ensure they are listed for Christmas. With Christmas falling on a Monday, Christmas Eve is on a Sunday evening. There will only be two masses on the weekend of Dec. 23/24 that will fulfill your Sunday obligation. They are: 4:30pm Mass on Saturday (12/23) and 9:30am on Sunday (12/24). There will be no 8:30 or 11:00 Masses on Sunday morning (12/24) but only 9:30am. As Pope Francis has said: My mission of being in the heart of the people is not an extra or just another moment in life.

We have to regard ourselves as sealed, even branded, by this mission of bringing light, blessing, enlivening, raising up, healing and freeing.

In our occupations, our vocations we are to bring light of Christ to others.

At a time when we are occupied with so many tasks in preparation of Christmas, we are to be a beacon of hope and light to others. This is our mission.

2 Second Sunday of Advent Pastor s Corner: We are introduced to John the Baptist this weekend in the Gospel (Mark 1:1-8). He is a voice of one crying out in the desert: Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. This is John s mission. He is to announce the coming of the Lord and call people to prepare for him. We each have a mission as well. God has gifted us and called us to announce the Lord s coming. Through our actions and words we fulfill that mission to point out Jesus to others. As Pope Francis has said: My mission of being in the heart of the people is not an extra or just another moment in life. Instead, it is something I cannot uproot from my being without destroying my very self. I am a mission on this earth; that is the reason why I am here in this world. We have to regard ourselves as sealed, even branded, by this mission of bringing light, blessing, enlivening, raising up, healing and freeing. All around us we begin to see nurses with soul, teachers with soul, politicians with soul, people who have chosen deep down to be with others and for others. Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium 273. In our occupations, our vocations we are to bring light of Christ to others. We have been sealed with the Holy Spirit through Baptism and Confirmation to heal, free, raise up and bless others through the various roles that we have in our lives. At a time when we are occupied with so many tasks in preparation of Christmas, we are to be a beacon of hope and light to others. This is our mission. How we do it will be different for each of us according to our gifts. That is why it is so important to take time for ourselves during this Season of Advent to nurture our relationship with God. How can we bring comfort to others as we are called through the prophet Isaiah (1 st reading Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11) unless we have experience the comfort of God through our personal prayer time? Throughout these days of Advent take notice of your mission. See how in your daily interactions with others you can point out for others the activity of God. And see how you are that beacon of light, that instrument of blessing, that presence of healing to others. Fr John ADVENT: The season of Advent has begun! EUCHARISTIC DEVOTIONS: Wednesday s during Advent (Dec. 13, 20) there will be Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel from 12:00 noon until 6:30pm. Come spend some quiet time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. This time of private prayer can put everything that is going on in the preparation for Christmas in perspective. Adoration will conclude with mass at 6:30pm. SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: There is an opportunity every Saturday to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation from 3:30-4:00pm in the church. BEST ADVENT EVER: Starting December 3 rd, the 1 st Sunday of Advent, those who sign up will receive a daily with short inspirational videos, practical tips to incorporate into your daily lives and personal stories from Dynamic Catholic team members. Throughout Advent, participants will discover how to slow down and find joy in preparing for Christmas leading to your best Advent ever and the best Christmas of your life! To sign up go to: DynamicCatholic.com/SignUp. COLOR YOUR WAY to Meditation and Peace: During Advent there will be coloring pages with Advent themes in the Gathering Area. You are invited to take a page, or several and individually or as a family color and pray. It is for all ages and can be a relaxing prayer meditation. LIGHTING OF ADVENT WREATH: Families or friends are needed to light the Advent candle on December 17 th & 24 th, the 3 rd & 4 th Sunday of Advent. Please call the office or sign up in the St. Joseph room. ADVENT BOOKLETS: These daily reflection booklets are available at the doors of the church. These contain a Scripture passage and reflection for each day of Advent. CHURCH ENVIRONMENT: Decorating for Christmas will take place Sunday, December 17 th after the 11:00am mass and after the 9:30am mass on December 24 th. Anyone able to help with decorating is welcome. The Lorain County Chapter will hold a candle lighting ceremony at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. We invite all friends and families of our children to attend. SCRIPTURE STUDY: Our new study of PSALMS will begin on Thursday, December 14 th at 7:00pm in Room 2 of the Hall with the introduction (chapter one pgs. 1-6 in the study book and pgs in the study guide). We will cover the different types and interpretation of the Psalms. This study is very closely tied to the mass and our everyday lives. Study books are available in the church office for $16. The mass begins at 5:30pm. and is located at 1007 Superior Ave East. Please come and support our choir while partaking in the breathtaking cathedral liturgy. There is free parking in the cathedral parking lot off of Rockwell Avenue. Make your Advent special by attending evening liturgy with us. Afterward, you might enjoy the holiday lights along Public Square! We hope you can attend. LADY'S GUILD: The Lady's Guild will be hosting their annual Christmas dinner and party on Monday, December 11 th at 6:30pm in the Parish hall. Members are asked to bring a side dish, appetizer, or dessert to share. Following dinner, there will be games and a raffle. Members should bring a few wrapped USEFUL gifts (under $5.00) for the games. Come celebrate the Christmas season! PARISH INFORMATION Weddings: Couples need to make arrangements at least six months prior to the wedding date. Baptism: Baptisms are celebrated at a mutually convenient time. Please call the office to make arrangements. Ministry to the Sick: Please notify the office for visits to parishioners in the hospital. New parishioners: Are asked to register as soon as possible at the Parish Office or by phone. Inquiry Classes in the Catholic Religion: Persons interested in becoming Catholic are asked to contact the Parish Office for information about the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, RCIA. NIGHT AT THE RACES: Come join us on Saturday, January 13 th at 5:30pm for this fun filled event. Tickets for this year s Night at the Races are on sale for $20 in the Gathering Area after all masses this weekend or at the parish office during the week. Entry to the event, food and refreshments are included in the ticket price. You may also purchase horses for $15 apiece with the chance of winning $30 if your horse wins the race. You can also sponsor a race for $50 and have your ad on the race form for the race you sponsor. You do not need to attend the event to purchase horses or to sponsor a race. We are also asking for donations for our Chinese Raffle.
