Please keep these candidates in prayer as they prepare for these sacraments. This weekend, March 6, those preparing to make a Profession of Faith at the Easter Vigil will be experiencing the Penitential Rite at the 11:00am mass. This rite calls them, as well as all the baptized, to enter more faithfully into this season of conversion. HELPING HANDS: Thank you to everyone that donated to the food pantry. The donation filled the pantry and will help us to continue to serve those in need. The winner of the bowl was MA Buswell and we raised $78.00 for Family Promise. Our supplies for the Backpack Program are running low, the post-it notes are back out. We are in need of your support; please return the items on the post-it notes as soon as you can. And as always THANK YOU for your support of the Helping Hands Ministry.

2 Fourth Sunday of Lent Page 3 PASTORS CORNER: Next weekend, the couples of our Pre-Cana Ministry will be hosting a Pre-Cana day at St. Patrick s church in Wellington. Engaged couples who are preparing for a marriage in the Catholic Church attend a Pre-Cana day with married couples who share their insights and experiences of marriage. Our parish, along with several other parishes in Lorain County, takes a turn hosting the day at St. Patrick s. This has been a great way for the parishes of Lorain County to work together and share resources. Hopefully with Fr. Reymann retiring as pastor of St. Patrick this shared ministry will not discontinue. Fr. Reymann has been a strong proponent of working together among the parishes and the Lorain County Pre-Cana can become a model of future collaborations among the parishes. In light of the decline of priests, it is even more urgent in our day to establish such shared ministries. Our parish has never had a problem in having enough married couples to be a part of this Pre-Cana ministry in the 12 years we have been a part of the Lorain County Pre-Cana team. As an off shoot of this ministry, Couple to Couple, or C2C ministry, will not only help in preparing engaged couples but will also be providing activities to support married couples. Their first activity will be a Spring dinner and dance on April 16 th. Watch for more details about this night out for married couples. They are also looking for ways to meet the needs of married couples in the church so if you have suggestions please contact Ray and Margie Toombs, Dave and Terri Zunis or Jon and Lisa Axe. I am so grateful for all that the Pre-Cana and C2C ministries offer the parish and surrounding community and ask for your prayers for them as they share their experiences next weekend with couples preparing for marriage. Happy Lent, Fr. John LENT 2016 WEEKDAY MASSES CHAPEL Wednesday, 6:30pm (with Eucharistic Adoration from noon-6:30pm) (Except February 24 th ) Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00am EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Wednesdays Noon 6:30pm Chapel STATIONS OF THE CROSS Friday s at 7:00pm Chapel March 11, 18 COMMUNAL RECONCILIATION Sunday, March 6 th INDIVIDUAL CELEBRATION OF RECONCILIATION Saturdays 3:30-4:00pm Friday, March 18 th, after 8:00am Mass Monday March 21 th after 7:00pm Mass OPERATION RICE BOWL: As part of our faith community s Lenten observance, we will participate in Catholic Relief Services Lenten program, Operation Rice Bowl. For thirty-one years, Operation Rice Bowl has inspired Catholics in the United States to pray, learn and give as we increase our understanding of our global community and connect with the principles of Catholic Social Teaching throughout our Lenten journey. We encourage you to participate in Operation Rice Bowl at home with your family and loved ones. The Rice Bowl and information materials are available at the doors of the church. LENTEN VIDEO SERIES: Wednesdays at 7:00pm following the 6:30pm mass in the chapel. We will be using the DVD program Priest, Prophet and King with Bp. Robert Barron. The better we understand Jesus, the better we understand ourselves. But who was Jesus this itinerant preacher whom many called the Messiah? In Priest, Prophet and King, you will discover Jesus as the Anointed One the ultimate priest, prophet and king foreshadowed throughout the Hebrew Scriptures. Using biblical insights and engaging stories, Bishop Barron affirms that we see Jesus most clearly through the lens of the Old Testament. Through this presentation you will better understand Jesus, become more familiar with Scripture, and realize your own priestly, prophetic and kingly mission. FAST AND ABSTINENCE: The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence which means no meat is to be eaten on those Fridays. The law of abstinence is obligatory for all who are 14 years old or older. Good Friday is a day of fasting and abstinence which means one large meal and two smaller meals as well as abstaining from meat. The law of fasting is for those years old. EASTER FLOWERS: Remember a loved one this Easter by making a donation to the Easter Flowers. An envelope for this memorial can be found in your monthly packet or you may use a plain envelope and mark your name and the name of your deceased loved one. Envelopes need to be turned in the weekend of March 19/20.

3 Our Lady Queen of Peace Page 4 Thank you for your generous support of our Parish, and your help with the needs of the community through your ongoing participation in our various ministries. Actual Goal Difference Sunday, Feb 28: $ 8, $ 8, $ 6.71 Sunday Y-T-D: $316, $308, $ 8, February Mortgage Reduction: $ 1, Outstanding Mortgage: $884, LECTOR WORKSHOP: A workshop is being offered for lectors to further enhance their skills as Proclaimers of the Word. This interactive DVD program will be offered several times as there is a limit of 12 lectors that can participate at a time. Saturday, March 19 th at 10:00am, we will be offering this workshop to the first 12 lectors who sign up. Hopefully every lector will go through this program. Future dates of this workshop will be announced shortly. Please call the parish office to register. ST. MARY S CEMETERY: Please remove all decorations by March 20 th in preparation for Easter. Easter decorations may be placed starting on March 27 th. LITURGICAL MINISTERS: We are in need of Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Ushers and Servers for Tenebrae, Holy Thursday and Good Friday. You may signup after Mass in the St. Joseph s room or call the parish office during the week. AN ACT OF MERCY: HARBOR THE HOMELESS: The Parish Council is sponsoring an activity to aid the homeless who use the St. Joseph shelter in Lorain. They will be collecting paper items as well as toiletries on the weekend of March 12 th and 13 th. Items needed include plastic silverware, paper plates and cups, napkins, foam cups as well as toiletry items in small packages such as soap, tooth paste. These items can be brought to the masses on the 12 th and 13 th and there will be a table in the Gathering Area that will be spotlighting this Corporal Work of Mercy in our area. COMMUNAL RECONCILIATION: Today is another opportunity to experience God s mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. There will be a Communal Reconciliation service at 2:00pm in the church with five priests present to hear confessions. The liturgy begins with the Liturgy of the Word, reflecting upon God s mercy which then leads into individual confession of sins and absolution. The communal context is the clearest expression of what the sacrament is meant to be, which is reconciling a person with God and with one another (the community). It is in this setting that we also see that we are not alone in our need for forgiveness. We are thus able to support one another through the witness of our going to confession and through our prayers. EARLY BULLETIN DEADLINES: Articles for the March 27 th (Easter Sunday) bulletin are due by Wednesday, March 16 th. Sister Kathleen s Corner PARISH FAITH FORMATION: The tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to him. The Pharisees and scribes (righteous religious gurus) complained, saying, This man welcomes sinners and eats with them. Not to dislike the scribes and pharisees, we know they just didn t see themselves as sinners as all of us are. That s why it is reasonably easy to learn not to judge. We just need to accept our weakness, perhaps confess it (so we know who we are and who God is), and move on. The moving-on-content can make all the difference in our lives. Paul s letter says we all have gifts of the Holy Spirit present. When we were baptized, we celebrated the Spirit s presence and chose to receive the gifts for living Christ s way. Traditionally, they are wisdom, understanding, counsel, and, knowledge, which gift the mind. The last three are gifts for the heart: fortitude, piety, and, awe of God s presence. They are like the roots of a great tree in the soul of a person. They nourish the soul; and they result in a person s flourishing, in being fruitful in faith. That is why love is the first fruit of the Holy Spirit. Joy follows, because a person is joyful in the presence of his beloved. And peace comes next. Finally, the hard things of the world are easier to endure resulting in long-suffering. FAMILY FAITH FORMATION: We have important celebrations coming: Easter and Pentecost and yes, Holy Thursday and Good Friday. These celebrate now, the gifts that we have already been given in baptism. We enjoy God s gifts and they become fruits of love and mercy. Pope Francis explained that God s justice is mercy. It is the gifts of God that help us see this mystery of God. Mercy does not humble another. Mercy is given with love and a smile of friendship in our hearts. Mercy does not distinguish the good and the bad people but is given to all and each. When mercy is received, love is given, but not expected. Can we do an act of mercy this week?
