Recent research shows that the second largest body consists of those Catholics who no longer practice the faith. Who will welcome them back and offer a place of belonging? Will you? This Advent we are making a special effort to welcome home for Christmas those who have not been active in the Church. Think about family members, friends, neighbors, etc., that you can invite to our Christmas Mass and extend a warm welcome to join you and our parish community at Mass. ALL I EVER HAVE TO BE : An evening of faith filled inspiration and music bringing us closer together. ALL parishioners of Our Lady Queen of Peace are invited and welcomed to join us for an Advent evening of reflection on Wednesday, December 14 at 6:30pm by National speaker and author Greg Wasinski and his wife, vocalist Aimee Wasinski. Take this precious time to reconnect as family, friends and community as we prepare ourselves for the coming of the Lord this Christmas. The journey of Mary and Joseph wasn t about presents, but the ultimate Gift of Jesus instead. Merchandise will be available and a free will offering will be taken. RITE TO LIFE: Once again this year, we will be collecting signatures on this weekend and next. Your $5.00 signature will help defray the cost of the "Bring America Back To Life" billboard campaign. We ask that you pray for those that have been affected by abortion or the Pro Choice Movement in general. CHRISTMAS MAGNETS: The Lady's Guild will be selling "Keep Christ in Christmas" magnets after all Masses in the gathering area. Cost is $5.00. Third Sunday of Advent Page 3 OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE PASTORS CORNER: As I sit here typing this the morning after the Choir Concert I am still humming the songs from the concert.

These are all non-professionals who played and sang like the best of them. They lead us at mass each week and for one afternoon they were shining like the Star of Bethlehem for us to see.

I am grateful that they said yes to God s call and were willing to develop and use their musical gifts.

If you have been gifted with the gift of singing or playing a musical instrument please take the step to come forward and to share it with the community.

It was a fantastic musical event. The best part for me was watching the pride the musicians had in singing and playing for us. These are all non-professionals who played and sang like the best of them. They lead us at mass each week and for one afternoon they were shining like the Star of Bethlehem for us to see. God has gifted them and they have responded to God s call to use their gifts to enhance the liturgy and to lead us in prayer. I am grateful that they said yes to God s call and were willing to develop and use their musical gifts. From the earliest times music has always had a place in the liturgy from the temple services to the Last Supper which concluded with a hymn (see Matthew 26:30 and Mark 14:26). If you have been gifted with the gift of singing or playing a musical instrument please take the step to come forward and to share it with the community. Our music director Rob Keshock is very talented and extremely patient and has been able to help our choir members to develop their talent. I am still in awe of what he does in working with the children and how far he has brought each one in using their musical ability. We are very blessed to have him in our parish. If you need a boost to your spiritual life or just a break from all the preparations of Christmas then please come to the Advent prayer on Wednesday (12/14) at 6:30 in the church. Greg and Aimee Wasinski will be here to lead us in an advent reflection. Greg is a dynamic speaker who travels the country speaking and has been here before for youth events. His wife Aimee is a talented vocalist and is a part of the music ministry at Our Lady of Angels in Bainbridge. Together they are putting on a free night of prayer, reflection and song leading us to a deeper appreciation of the ultimate gift of Jesus. I know time is a precious commodity these days but I believe that this will be wise investment of your time in your preparation for Christmas. Fr. John ADVENT: EUCHARISTIC DEVOTIONS: Wednesday s during Advent there will be Eucharistic Adoration from 12:00pm until 6:30pm. On December 14 th adoration will be in the church and on December 21 st adoration will be in the chapel. Come spend some quiet time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. This time of private prayer can put everything that is going on in preparation for Christmas into perspective. ADVENT BOOKLETS: These daily reflection booklets are available at the doors of the church. These contain a Scripture passage and reflection for each day of Advent. CHURCH ENVIRONMENT: Decorating for Christmas will take place Sunday, December 18 th at noon. Anyone able to help with decorating is welcome. SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: There is an opportunity every Saturday to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation from 3:30-4:00pm in the church. CHRISTMAS FLOWER OFFERING: Deceased loved ones can be remembered through the Christmas Flower Offering. An envelope for this offering was in the November packet or you can submit names and donations in a plain envelope and mark Christmas Flowers on the outside. Memorial names will be posted on the bulletin board this Christmas. Please submit the names by December 12 th to ensure they are listed for Christmas. OPLATKI: Christmas wafers are available in the Gathering Area (on the counter by the coat room) and at the parish office. The cost is $1.00 per packet. CHILDREN/FAMILIES NEEDED to carry the infant Jesus in the opening procession at the Masses on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Please call the parish office or sign up in the St. Joseph room. CHRISTMAS PRAYER REQUESTS: Next weekend when you enter church you will be given a paper ornament in which to write out your prayer request for Christmas. These requests will then be used to decorate a Christmas tree in the church and these requests will be included in the petitions at all the Masses during the Christmas Season. You are also encouraged to include the Christmas prayer requests in your personal prayer at home and with your family during the Christmas Season. As you plan to make the most of your charitable donations in 2016, know that we gratefully accept gifts of cash and appreciated assets such as stocks or bonds. If you are 70 ½ or older, you may be able to reduce your taxable income this year and help us in our ministry with a gift made directly from your IRA to our parish. Talk to your advisors and IRA administrator for more information and to be sure that a gift is made directly from an IRA to a qualified charity such as our parish. Lastly, should this year-end find you creating or updating your estate plan, please consider helping us grow our parish ministry for future generations by including our parish as a beneficiary of your will, trust, retirement plan or life insurance policy. CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE: The Christmas giving tree is up. Please chose a mitten and purchase the item on it and return the item by noon on December 18 th. The gift should be unwrapped but if you would like to include wrapping paper it would be greatly appreciated. HELPING HANDS: Through the generous hearts of the parishioners of Our Lady Queen of Peace, needy families in the Lorain County area, were blessed with gifts on Christmas Day in years past. We will once again have a trunk available in the gathering area to collect new items to be given out at St. Vincent de Paul Church on December 25 th at their Sharing Christmas dinner. New toys, games, clothing, and winter wear for any age are accepted. Please keep the gift to no more than $ Thank you again for your donation. OUR LADY S GUILD: The Lady's Guild will have their annual Christmas dinner and meeting on Monday, December 12th at 6:30pm. Members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share along with a few wrapped gifts ( under $5.00) for the dice game. Don't forget we are still collecting donations for Life Care and Haven House. Hope to see you there! SCRIPTURE STUDY: Our scriptural study of Mary continues with Lesson four (pages 67-85) on Thursday December 15 th at 7:00pm in Room 2 of the hall. COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS: The WORLDWIDE CANDLE LIGHTING, unites family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor the memories of the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren who left too soon, is scheduled to be held this Sunday, December 11 th, 2016 at 5:00pm. The Lorain County Chapter will hold a candle lighting ceremony at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. We invite all friends and families of our children to attend. Senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests have offered their lives in service to others educating the young, comforting the sick, seeking justice for the oppressed. Today, many are frail, elderly, and in need of assistance. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious helps to furnish medications, nursing care, and other necessities. Please give generously. TOY DRIVE: Essential Kneads in Grafton is doing a toy drive for Our Lady Queen of Peace. For every toy donated they will give a $5.00 gift card (up to $20.00) for use in their shop. This is a wonderful way for them to give to our community and we appreciate their generosity. FAMILY PROMISE: We will be welcoming our guests the week of January 22 nd, the sign up board will be available in the gathering area the December weekend, as well as the January weekend if you can help. We will also be having an Open House on January 22 nd at 1:00pm for anyone who would like to come to the hall and see how this is transformed into our guests home for the week. There will also be a training that day for anyone who needs at 1:00pm in the hall.
