Thanksgiving Boxes It's that time again to plan for our GABC donation of Thanksgiving Boxes to Interfaith Services of Henrico. The ladies in GABC will be collecting your donation until November Make your check payable to GABC marked Thanksgiving Boxes. Let's make it a nice Thanksgiving for a needy family in Henrico County. Church Family Night Dinner and Program will be on Wednesday, October 12 at 5:45 p.m. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. The topic for the program will be Delivering Meals and Good Cheer with Susan Forthuber and Monthly Bible Study with Allen Jenkins. 5 YOUTH NEWS It is hard to believe but it is time to start signing up for the 2017 Youth Mission Trip(s)! The middle school Passport trip will be at Greensboro College in Greensboro, NC. The deadline for the middle school trip signup is October 23 rd. Please see B.J. for further details. Sunday, October 23 will be a trip to Monroe Park for TOP. Allen Jenkins will be leading a group to serve the homeless. All adults are welcome too we haven t made it out to the park in a few months and would love to have a big crowd that day! The Youth will have a Progressive Dinner on November 12. We will stop at several houses for salad, appetizers, main dish, and dessert. We did this a couple of years ago and we had a great time! If you are willing to be a host, please let B.J. know! For youth group members, you may sign up at any time between now and Sunday, October 30 th. Mark your Calendars! The Youth Yard Sale & BBQ will be Saturday, April 1. No this is not an April Fool s Joke this is actually the day! We already have quite a bit of items and are always looking for more. Thank you for your generosity and your contributions to this huge event each year. Because of your generosity and contributions, our youth are able to give back in the area of service each year through the mission work that we do.

9 THE REVEREND ROBERT J. LEWIS PULPIT GUEST With joy and thanksgiving we welcome to the Glen Allen Baptist pulpit, our neighbor who lives just off Mountain Road in the Mountain Glen neighborhood, the Reverend Robert J. Lewis, who retired after a fourteen year pastorate at Lakeside Baptist Church. Previously, he served for fifteen years as pastor of Gordonsville Baptist Church in Gordonsville and earlier as associate minister of Bayside Baptist Church in Virginia Beach. Rev. Lewis was graduated from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts degree and received his master s degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He has received advanced clinical pastoral education at Central State and Norton Children s Hospitals in Louisville and the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He is a volunteer chaplain at Henrico Doctor s Hospital. He is active in the denominational affairs of the Richmond Baptist Association, the Baptist General Association of Virginia, and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. His sermons have been published and he has written widely for the Sunday School Commentary for the Religious Herald. His lovely wife is Mary Ann, a native of Panama City, Florida, who just retired from teaching Spanish at Orange County High School. Their daughter, Annie lives and works in Florida and is a graduate of Vanderbilt and Johns Hopkins Universities; son, Scott, resides in Petersburg and is a graduate of Roanoke College. Dr. Norman says Bob Lewis is a splendid and long-standing friend, a remarkably gifted preacher and pastor, a man of sterling character and ability. I commend him to Glen Allen Baptist and regret only that I will not be able to be blessed and strengthened by his worship leadership.
