3 If you had met Michael Thomas years ago, you wouldn t have believed he would one day be a church planter. As a drug dealer, Michael spent his days partying and running the streets. God radically changed his life when he accepted Christ as Lord. Today, he is planting House of Saints outside Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As he connects with the community, Michael has become the head varsity basketball coach at a local school and serves as a police chaplain. Wednesday, February 21 & 28, 2018 our Church Family Night Dinner and Program will be at 5:45 p.m. Cost of supper is $5/pp, $1.50 per child and a maximum of $15 per family. Please join us for good food and fellowship! We will have a Bible Study both weeks led by Dr. Collier. On February 25, 2018, we will have our 150 th Anniversary Worship Service. Rev. Ken & Diana Veazey will be our guest speakers during the Worship Service and Sandy Satterwhite (great-great granddaughter of Alexander Sands, the first pastor of GABC), will be our guest speaker during the Sunday School hour. All adult classes will meet in the Fellowship Hall at 9:15a on February 25. Your

5 attendance books will be in the Fellowship Hall. After the worship service, a group will be going to Debbie s Kitchen for lunch to celebrate this wonderful event and talk more one on one with our guests. We would love to have you join us, but we need an accurate count of who will be going by 2/22. Please RSVP with Carol Slaven in the church office if you plan on attending the luncheon. Attention all Performers! We are preparing a multimedia program as part of our homecoming service taking place on April 29. We are seeking actors, instrumentalists, and singers of all ages who would like to participate. The GABC Yard Sale/Brunswick Stew is coming March 10, 2018 from 6 a.m. to noon. If you would like to donate items for the yard sale (PLEASE, no TV's or Christmas Trees) or volunteer to help, please contact Suzanne Jenkins at suzallen1@outlook.com or Cheryl Tilley at Both rooms upstairs are full and we are currently putting items in the blocked off section of the Fellowship Hall. All proceeds benefit our youth mission trips. We are also in need of hangers, plastic and paper grocery bags too! We will be selling our brunswick stew again this year! The goal is to pre-sell 250 quarts. Sign up sheets will be out soon. This group spoke at the 2/10/18 USO Breakfast. They will clean and test your old computers and refurbish them for Veterans to use to help them learn new job skills, find employment, connect to family and apply for benefits. They CANNOT take bulky monitors...only working flat panel monitors. So, when you bring your yard sale items please feel free to bring your old computers too! 6 Youth News The Youth will participate in a Progressive Dinner on Feb. 24. This is where we go to a different house for every course of the meal: appetizers, salads, entree, and desserts! This is always an extremely popular activity that we do. Let me know if you are interested in going. Signups will be up TODAY. Also, as always, we can use a few chaperones/drivers. Thanks so much! The 5 th annual GABC Youth Fall Retreat has been set for October at Misty Mountain Camp Resort in Crozet, near Charlottesville. This year we return to the site from where we had our first fall retreat. We have several cabins rented as well as tent spots for those who chose to camp. You may begin signing up with B.J. at any time. As always, we can use chaperones for this event! 9 Notes from the Past: Today we celebrate Baptist Women's Day. Baptist Women's Day is an opportunity for the ladies of Glen Allen Baptist Church to give their testimony, and to lead the congregation in worship. When the first annual Baptist Women's Day was held at Glen Allen Baptist Church around thirty years ago, the speaker was Mrs. Bernardine Parsons Melton. "Dina", as she was fondly known, didn't have to stand in the pulpit to preach a sermon. She was a walking, living, breathing sermon in the way she lived her life and witnessed to those around her. She taught the Ruth-Fidelis Sunday School class for many years. Her motto "Practice His Presence" is still posted in the Ruth-Fidelis classroom today. There is a picture of her and a resolution letter in her honor, on the wall of the first floor hall of the 1941 building, in the corner between the Chapel and the East stairwell door. If anyone has a suggestion for a Glen Allen 'note from the past', historic picture or trivia, please get it to the Church office to include in the bulletin during our 150th anniversary, Jubilee year.
