3 Deacons to be Ordained: Cris Foster & Glenn West LITANY OF DEACON INSTALLATION COVENANT OF COMMITMENT (Responsive) There are different gifts, BUT IT IS THE SAME SPIRIT WHO GIVES THEM. There are different ways of serving God, BUT IT IS THE SAME GOD WHO IS SERVED. God works through different people in different ways, BUT IT IS THE SAME GOD WHO ACHIEVES GOD S PURPOSE THROUGH THEM ALL. Each one is given a gift by the Spirit, TO USE IT FOR THE COMMON GOOD. Together, we are the Body of Christ AND INDIVIDUALLY MEMBERS OF HIM. Though we have different gifts, together we are a ministry of reconciliation led by the risen Christ. We work and pray to make His church useful in the world, and we call men and women to faith, so that, in the end, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Within our common ministry, some members are chosen for a particular work. We gather today to confirm that Frank Binns, Scott Brannan, Janice Clifton, Joyce Ellis, Lynn McNeal, Cris Foster and Glenn West have been chosen for this special ministry. CONGREGATIONAL AFFIRMATION Is it your desire that these candidates be installed as deacons for special service to this congregation? IT IS. Will you uphold them in this ministry? We recognize the particular ministry to which they have been called, remembering that our Lord Jesus said: Whoever would be first among you must be slave to all. For the Son of Man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give His live as a ransom for many. Go therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And lo, I am with you always even to the end of the world.

4 COVENANT WITH DEACONS God has called you to serve Jesus Christ and this congregation in a special way. As deacons of this church, it will be your task to proclaim by word and deed the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You are to love and serve the people of this fellowship, caring alike for the young and old, strong and weak, rich and poor. You are to strengthen Christ s people so that they might make Christ known as Savior and the Lord, share in the renewing of His word, and glorify God in all things. Do you believe that you are called by God and by the church to this ministry? WE DO. Will you be faithful in prayer and in the reading and study of the Holy Scriptures, and will you try hard to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called? Will you proclaim the Gospel, speaking if necessary, and endeavor through the ministries of this church to lead others into an acceptance of the cost and joy of discipleship, and will you thus live in the spirit of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit? Will you undertake to be a faithful leader to all to whom you are called to serve, laboring together with them to build up the family of God? Will you devote time, energy, and skills in efforts to lead this congregation to a higher awareness of and deeper commitment to the worship of Almighty God and to the missionary imperative of the Gospel? May the Lord who has given you the will to do these things give you the grace and power to perform them. 6 ANNOUNCEMENTS The hymn of the month for January is #204 Glorious Is Thy Name. January 1 is celebrated as the Feast of the Holy Name in some churches because that is the day Jesus was taken to the synagogue and christened in Luke 2:21. Many of our hymns on this first Sunday will be celebrating Jesus s name and we will continue to learn and sing Glorious is Thy Name all month. This month, we will switch from the first stanza of The Bond of Love to the second stanza. Lastly this month, we will start singing #661 Grace, Love, and Fellowship at the end of the service. I hope these new hymns will help keep the service fresh and meaningful. And they will become as special to you as our previous selections. 7 Pre-K Registration begins on Monday, January 13, Quarterly Business Meeting will be held after supper on Wednesday, January 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Everyone is encouraged to attend. January 15 February Newsletter Deadline Wednesday Night Church Family Dinner/Program - Dinner will be on January 22 at 5:45 p.m. Following our meal, Laura Mawyer will lead us in a wonderful program on Pediatric General Surgery in Belize. Please join us. Inclement Weather Policy - Please assume that in virtually every case in the event of inclement weather, the congregation will gather for Sunday School and the Sunday morning worship service. Members and friends are urged to exercise common sense in determining whether to attend. Icy conditions may be treacherous around ones home and travel path as well as at church. Falls, bruises and broken bones are not synonymous with Christian commitment. The "rewards program" with "double points" is non-existent. In exceedingly rare cases with persistent blizzard-like conditions services will be canceled by a joint decision of the Pastor, Chair of the Body of Deacons and the Sunday School Director and the congregation will be informed of the decision by a telephone tree activated by the deacons and it will be posted it on the website at Youth Brunswick Stew & Yard Sale is coming!!! And we need your donations NOW!!! Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 22, It s time to start gathering items for the largest Youth Missions fundraiser of the year and we hope that you ll

8 donate your gently used items. As you clean out your clutter, please remember to bring it to church or call the church office for assistance with a pick up.
