3 Children s Sermon* *Following the Children s Sermon, children aged 4 through 2 nd Grade are invited to attend Children s Church. Children, aged 3 and younger, are invited to join the Nursery. WE WORSHIP THROUGH MEDITATION Scripture Reading Luke 19:28-44 Page of the Pew Bible The Morning Prayer WE WORSHIP THROUGH STEWARDSHIP Hymn #132 There is Power in the Blood Jones Offertory Prayer Receiving of Tithes and Offering Offertory At the Cross Hudson Anthem: The King is Coming The market place is empty; no more traffic in the street; All the builder s tools are silent; no more time to harvest wheat; Busy housewives cease their labor; in the courtroom, no debate; Work on earth has been suspended, as the king comes thru the gate. Happy faces line the hallway; those whose lives have been redeemed; Broken homes that he has mended; those from prison he has freed; Little children and the aged, hand in hand stand all aglow; Who were crippled, broken ruined clad in garments white as snow. The King is coming, the King is coming; I just heard the trumpet sounding, And soon His face I ll see. The King is coming, the King is coming, Praise God, He s coming for me. I can hear the chariot s rumble, I can see the marching throng, And the flurry of God s trumpet spells the end of sin and wrong; Regal robes are now unfolded; heaven s grandstands all in place; Heaven s choir is now assembled, start to sing, Amazing Grace. WE WORSHIP THROUGH PROCLAMATION Message: Joy and Pain Live Together Dr. Timothy K. Norman

6 ANNOUNCEMENTS The Hymn of the month for April is #163 Thine is the Glory The text was written by Edmond Budry, a Swiss minister, in He was inspired by the great tune from Handel which is still used today. We know George Frederick Handel today because he composed Messiah which is sung every Christmas with its popular Hallelujah chorus. Handel wrote the tune for this hymn and used it in several of his oratorios (Joshua and Judas Maccabeus). You will probably recognize the tune as it is played at many weddings and funerals. Your Communication and Technology Committee Mission Updates at GABC Dear GABC Family: It is that time of year when I prepare to go back to Greensville Correctional Center (GRCC) April 24th-27 th to serve on a team for the Kairos Prison Ministry. Jesus states in Matthew 25:36 - I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. I think that Jesus presence sometimes is more evident when people are at their lowest and are in desperate need of God s love. Jesus came to heal the sick and the hurting and I can t think of many places any closer to Glen Allen that you will find more people so in need of God s redeeming love. It is usually when we are at our lowest that we seek God, and these guys couldn t get much lower. I consider it my honor to serve my Lord and Savior in this extreme environment, and have seen evidence of the Holy Spirit working on these men to change them from the inside out. I have seen the power of love and forgiveness working on these men and I stand in awe. God is alive and He is at work inside the walls and razor wire at GRCC. Even though you won t be physically in there with me, you can still be a meaningful part of this ministry. There are three things that you can do if you want to be a part of this awesome ministry; prayer, cookies and money. 1. Prayer - You can either sign up for a 30-minute time slot at: or let me know if I can put your first name on a prayer chain that we
10 take into the facility. Please sign up for one or both of these prayer opportunities. The team can do nothing going into GRCC without the power of God, so this weekend needs to be bathed in prayer from start to finish. 2. Cookies - I need close to 200 dozen cookies this time because the team that is serving on this weekend is only comprised of 22 guys. Cookies should be inches in diameter, 1-dozen per quart size zip-lock bag, and write the type of cookie on the outside of the bag. Cookies cannot have sugar on the outside, nuts (peanut butter is OK), or pieces of fruit in the cookies. There is a bin labeled Kairos Cookies beside the old Youth Pastor s office where you can place the cookies. I will need them no later than Tuesday April 22 nd and I can take them any time prior to this date, as they can be frozen. 3. Money - It costs about $50 per resident to attend a Kairos weekend, so if you would like to sponsor a resident please let me know otherwise any amount donated helps. Please let me know if you have any questions. I can be reached at tball@sycomtech.com or May God bless and keep you, Tom Ball Outlined are the Lamb s Basket contest results for the month of March. We are helping stock a clothing tent, an optical lab, and provide new socks and underwear for those coming for services. Please see the list of needed items.
