Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori-based faith formation program where children can grow in their relationship with God through a deep engagement in Scripture and Liturgy. Based on the belief that God and his children are already in relationship with each other, CGS catechists provide a place where and an approach through which each child can grow in this relationship with him. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at a glance: Faith Formation for children ages ½ hour sessions weekly from September 13, 2016 May 17, 2017 Classes are in the Atrium, a specially prepared room in Nativity School where children can come to know Jesus, the Good Shepherd. The Atrium is prepared with materials that children work with as a way of meditating upon the essentials of our faith found in Scripture & the liturgy Nativity parishioners are given first priority. I ve asked her to tell a little bit about her story so the rest of the parish will know about her work and can support her in her mission. May God bless you, Michaela, as well as your fellow NETters as you proclaim the Gospel to young people. May God bless your week! - Father Patrick - Hi, my name is Michaela Peine! I'm eighteen years old and a life-long parishioner here at Nativity. I'm writing to you today about my upcoming opportunities with NET Ministries. I've just graduated high school from Trinity School in Eagan, and through my senior year as I thought about my upcoming plans for the future, I felt that I was being called to take a year before college to serve with a Catholic ministry. This is where NET comes in. NET (National Evangelization Teams) is a nonprofit Catholic organization working to share the gospel with 6-12 th graders around the country through retreat, parish, and school ministry. It is headquartered in West Saint Paul and it one of the largest and most successful Catholic youth ministries in our nation. My first opportunity to go on a NET retreat was here at Nativity in Steiner Hall, at an annual retreat NET puts on to prepare Nativity confirmation students. Last winter, I went through the interview process and was accepted to serve as one of the 150 young missionaries who will help reach more than 80,000 young people. For nine months I will be traveling from diocese to diocese to put on retreats, much like the one many Nativity 8 th graders have participated in. To help cover the cost of training, room and board, healthcare, and transportation, each NET missionary is asked to raise a minimum of $5,000. If possible, I would like to have my fundraising complete by August so I can focus on my mission, and this is also a great opportunity for you to support NET Ministry's outreach to the youth. If you feel called and are able to help me in this mission, I would greatly appreciate any amount of financial support. This can be achieved by going to The NET website at and entering my name, Michaela Peine, when asked if you would like to support a missionary. If you would like to know more or have any questions I would love to talk with you, I'll be in the back of the church after the 11:00 mass on July 17. 4 High Schoolers Saint Paul Saints Game - July 25 All high school youth are invited to join Deacon Chad VanHoose for a Saint Paul Saints baseball game at CHS Field in Lowertown St. Paul on Monday, July 25 at 7:05pm. Tickets are $20 and include public transportation. Space is limited, so sign up today at parish.nativity-mn.org/highschool-youth, or contact the parish office at Pilgrimage Hike to Cathedral - August 7 All high school youth are invited to join Deacon Chad VanHoose for a pilgrimage hike from Nativity to the Cathedral of St. Paul. Archbishop Hebda will greet the hikers and then lead them through the Holy Door into the historic Cathedral, where they ll participate in a private Lord s Day mass with Fr. John Powers. Students should meet at Nativity rectory at 11am and be picked up from the Cathedral at 2:45pm. Young Adults Urban Catholic Lite - Sunday, July 24, 4:15pm All young adults ages are invited to our monthly gathering of prayer, worship, and fraternity. Grandparents Feast Day and Anniversary Celebration - July 26 Grandparents Apostolate will celebrate its Fifth Anniversary on the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne! All grandparents are invited to a time of celebration, encouragement, prayer, and fellowship highlighted by a presentation by Mrs. Mary McClure, teacher, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. McClure, who holds an M.A. in Catechetics and is a candidate for an M.A. in Theology, will discuss how The Church Saved Me. Join us immediately following the 8:15am mass in Steiner Hall. Rachel s Vineyard Retreat - August 5-7 Pope Francis said, "Let's not forget that God forgives and God forgives always."
