During the fall campaign, Nativity and neighboring parishes will have three adopt-a-days of prayer on Friday, October 7 (Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary), Tuesday, October 18 (St. Luke, Patron Saint of Doctors) and Saturday, October 22 (Pope St. John Paul II) at Planned Parenthood on Vandalia near University Ave. You can participate through prayer and fasting, community outreach, and peaceful vigil. Matt Birk Event - October 2 Mark your calendar for Sunday, October 2, from 6-8:30pm as Nativity School alum and Super Bowl champion Matt Birk is coming to speak at Nativity! He will discuss Faith Family & Football: Living Out Our Catholic Faith in a Secular World. This event is co-sponsored by the Men s Club and NCCW and is offered free of charge, including a light dinner, though donations are appreciated. NCCW Deanery Meeting - September 15 All women are invited to the next St. Paul Deanery Meeting at St. Peter s Church in North St Paul on Thursday, September 15. Men's Club is your answer. From Donut Sundays to the Tree Lot trailer, the Men s Club is your home for male fraternity, service, and spiritual growth. Our first Men s Club meeting on Thursday is going to be a hog roast, which is a great time for any new parishioners to meet current club members and see what the Men s Club is all about. See you there! New County Fair Initiatives - September 18 This year, Men s Club is hosting a Beer Tasting Battle. Parishioners and guests can bring their home brew to the fair on Sunday, September 18 and let our panel of judges decide who makes the best home brew. All styles are welcome. We also need players to participate in the new Bean Bag Tournament, also held on Sunday. We are seeking 32 teams (2 players/ team) with a $50 entry fee to vie for a $500 first place prize. Catholic Watchmen Kickoff - October 27 Nativity will have its first Catholic Watchmen (CW) event Thursday, October 27 from 6:30-9pm in the upper church and Steiner Hall. Promoted by the Bishop and Archdiocese and combining elements from the former Catholic Man Night, CW will meet monthly and is centered around seven disciplines which support our faith journey and help us grow in fraternity with other men seeking a deeper spiritual life. "Not just for the saints," it is open to all men wherever they are on their journey. Our first meeting features a speaker, adoration and confession, dinner, and a group discussion on how to Encounter Jesus in Sacred Scripture. We look forward to seeing you there! This special event begins with a sing-along at 2:30pm, followed by mass celebrated by Archbishop Bernard Hebda, when he will confer the sacrament of Confirmation for persons with disabilities who have completed Confirmation classes. 4 Faith formation RCIA - Beginning September 13 Thinking of Becoming Catholic? Do you or someone you know desire to become a Catholic? Nativity s RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program begins on Tuesday, September 13 in the Lannan Parish Center at 7pm. Wednesday Evening Faith Formation - Beginning Sept. 21 Parishioners who have children who attend a school other than Nativity School and would like to register their child for our Wednesday evening faith formation program for children in grades 1-8 can register online at Parish.Nativity-MN.org/ wed-ccd-classes/. This year s program will begin on September 21 with an orientation evening for students and their parents from 7-8 pm in Steiner Hall. Normally Nativity Parish prepares children in 2nd grade for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist and students in 7th grade for the Sacrament of Confirmation. If your child will be attending a school other than Nativity and is in one of those grades it s very important that parents enroll their children in our Wednesday evening sacramental preparation program. Special arrangements can also be made for children who weren t enrolled for those sacraments when they were in 2nd or 7th grade but are now able to do so. Share Your Love of the Catholic Faith! Parishioners who love to share their faith in Christ and His Church are needed to welcome and accompany our new inquirers on their journey through the RCIA. Team members are needed to provide hospitality once or twice a year and sponsors are needed to accompany and encourage inquirers along the journey. Volunteer Catechists Needed Could God be calling you to be a catechist in Nativity s faith formation program? We are looking for young (and young at heart!) volunteers who have a desire to pass on their Catholic faith to elementary and junior high students enrolled in our Wednesday evening faith formation program. Classes run throughout the school year and vary in size from 7-15 students. Training is provided for those who have the desire but may lack the know-how or confidence to serve in this way. Please call Randy Mueller at (651) or rmueller@nativity-mn.org to serve as a regular or substitute teacher during the coming school year. We also need volunteers who are able to tutor students who cannot meet on Wednesday evenings. Thank you! RCIA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Pastoral Care Grief Groups - Thursday, September 8, 9-10am Nativity s grief group will be meeting on the second Thursday in September (9/8), in the bride s room from 9-10am. Starting in October, the group will meet on the first Thursday of the month through June. Additionally, the Capital City Grief Coalition will meet every Thursday from 5:30-7pm at House of Hope on Summit in from September-November. All are welcome to either! Community Tomatoes Wanted - September 7 Have extra homegrown tomatoes? We will be serving a Loaves and Fishes Dinner at St. Matthew's Parish on Wednesday, September 7 and would like to include homegrown tomatoes. If you are using a song for your performance (dancing, singing, etc.) please plan to bring the music on a CD for us to keep and label it with your name and the song name.
