2 Liturgy & Music Procedural Change Starting the first Sunday of Advent, we will be omitting the greeting by the cantor/musicians which has become customary here at Nativity. There are a number of important liturgical reasons for this. Before Mass, we gather in the church and center our hearts to why we are there, which is to worship God and to give him praise and thanks. Beginning mass directly from this posture is a beautiful thing. Often times, extraneous speaking or announcements can get in the way and distract us. Furthermore, the priest is the head of the liturgical gathering and it is his task to welcome. He does this as he leads us in the sign of the cross, the sign by which we gather. Then he extends the liturgical greeting. Both of these elements are more important, and therefore more liturgically appropriate, than the casual greeting. They speak to who we are and why we are there. Thank you for your understanding. Yet, God expects from us a return on his blessings in this life, too to volunteer in outreach, to evangelize the seeking, to educate our children in faith, to worship Him in reverent liturgies, and to raise our prayers high in Adoration. In a mailing to all households, I invited you to join me in making a stewardship promise to return to God in thankfulness for his blessings. Here is how you can join in our 2016 stewardship initiative of thankfulness: Increase your 2016 pledge by 5%, if possible Pledge for the first time in any amount! Choose to donate by Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) rather than envelope (easy EFT setup is available on-line, by pledge card, or by contacting Joyce Kotta, Accounting, at or jkotta@nativity-mn.org) A special note to Nativity School Families: Nativity parish remains committed to supporting our active parishioners who seek a Catholic education for their children through a subsidized tuition. An active parishioner attends Mass regularly, makes a minimum pledged stewardship contribution annually, and volunteers time and talent to help Nativity Parish and School. In recent correspondence to you, I noted that, for the first time in 10 years, the minimum pledged stewardship contribution has increased from $360 to $450. So, beginning January 1, 2016 all families seeking the in-parish subsidized tuition rate will be required to pledge and gift at least this minimum amount of $450. I thank you all parish and school families alike for you generosity to our Nativity parish community. Please turn in your pledge cards or complete your EFT as soon as possible so that stewardship envelopes can be ordered and budgets planned accordingly. This past Sunday, electronic gifts accounted for $27,007 or 63% of total stewardship gifts.

4 School Tour Nativity School! This is an exciting time as we begin the process of welcoming new families to Nativity School through formal tours. We will be doing individual tours this fall and early winter to introduce interested families to life at Nativity School. This provides an opportunity for parents to see the learning process grounded in our Catholic faith. Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions for parents. 5 Pastoral Care Walk to End Hunger - Thursday, November 26 The Walk to End Hunger, a family-friendly 5K fun walk held on Thanksgiving morning in the Mall of America, is a great way to start your holiday off right by giving back before you give thanks! Reverse Food Truck - Sunday, December 6 Parishioner Mike Skillrud will be bringing the Thrivent Financial/Finnegan s Reverse Food Truck to Nativity on Sunday 12/6 for all Sunday Masses. Bring a non-perishable food item for our local Keystone Community Services food bank. The truck will also be at the Nativity Men s Club Christmas Tree Lot during the afternoon. Parking Passenger Loading Zone Please note that there is to be no parking in the Passenger Loading Zone, located on the east side of Prior Avenue in between the two signs pictured at right.
