Tolkien We all receive the same amount of time each day. How do you spend your 24 hours? Do you find yourself saying frequently, I don t have time? Are you generous with your time, or do you jealously guard each second? As we head into Lent this week, can you make a plan to return some of your time to God? Perhaps you see Jesus in the poor and can share your time with Him in a service project with a favorite charity. Have you thought about making a daily commitment to prayer? Scouts Pancake Breakfast - Sunday, February 7, 7:30am-12:30pm All are invited to help support the Nativity Scouting programs by joining us for the annual all-you-can-eat Nativity Scout Pancake Breakfast in the Nativity Cafeteria this Sunday. Thanks to the Nativity Men s Club, Nativity Girl and Boy Scouts will be serving all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, fruit, milk, and coffee. Tickets are $6 for individuals and $25 for families at the door. Nativity sponsors active Girl Scout and Boy Scout programs that help young men and women to become responsible citizens and community members through skills best learned outdoors. Please come support the Scouts and have a great breakfast! Liturgy Choir Anthems - Sunday, February 7 Song of Moses, John Ness Beck; Alleluia, Randall Thompson Respect Life 40 Days Kick-Off Party - Tuesday, February 9, 5:45pm We will be kicking off 40 Days for Life with a party at Sweet Pea s (472 Snelling Ave. South) this Tuesday. Kids eat free that night and there will be wings! Look for the 40 days for life balloons. Contact Krista Pylkki at kpylkki@css.edu or for questions. 40 Days for Life - Begins Tuesday, February 10 Please join the worldwide movement to protect babies and their families from the tragedy of abortion. Our Spring campaign runs February 10 - March 20. You can participate through prayer and fasting, community outreach, and peaceful vigil. We will kick off the campaign with prayer and witness at the St. Paul Planned Parenthood on Wednesday, February 10 from 9am-noon and especially encourage mothers with babies and/or toddlers in strollers to also be present to give witness to the beauty of innocent young life that day. We will also be having three adopt-adays during the campaign with neighboring parishes on 2/22, 3/9, and 3/19 from 6am-6pm. Book Discussion - March 1 We are very excited to announce and read this month's book Subverted: How I Helped the Sexual Revolution Hijack the Women's Movement by Sue Ellen Browder. "Subverted is a game-changer for our culture, and in particular for women," according to Abby Johnson, pro-life activist and former Planned Parenthood director. Isaac Huss, Communications Manager and Bulletin Editor From the Hip Dear Parishioners and Friends, Another Lenten journey will begin this Ash Wednesday, February 10. Lent prepares the faithful to celebrate the Paschal Mystery of Christ s suffering, death, and resurrection. Please join us for Ash Wednesday masses at 7am, 8:15am, 5pm, or 7pm. Our school children will attend Ash Wednesday Mass at 10:15am. The Lenten season is also a time for reflection and spiritual renewal, a time to examine one s relationship with God and with others- above all, through fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. While the bulletin insert provides a complete calendar of the Lenten offerings here at Nativity, I want to highlight two important ways to deepen your relationship with Christ: Our own Nativity Lenten Mission, Following Christ With Purpose and Passion, will provide a powerful reflection on what it means to be an intentional disciple of Jesus Christ. Please join us from 7-8:15pm on Monday, February 15 and Tuesday, February 16 for these two compelling presentations by Deacon Mark Cesnik (pictured) of the Catherine of Sienna Institute in Colorado Springs. As a follow-up to the parish mission, I invite you to participate in Nativity s annual Lenten Book Groups. This year s book selection, Discover Christ by Bert Ghezzi and Dave Nodar, will challenge you to take a fresh look at what Jesus said and did and what that can mean for you. While the book is easily readable, it will have a profound impact on your faith. You can purchase Discover Christ for $10 after any of the Ash Wednesday masses, after the parish mission evening sessions, or at the parish office. I am very excited to present these Lenten opportunities to parishioners here at Nativity. Please consider adding one or both to your Lenten worship experience. Lenten Mission - Father Patrick Relevant Radio to promote the Nativity Lenten Mission Tune to 1330 AM this week for the radio ad promoting our Lenten Mission Seminar with Deacon Mark Cesnik. 4 Nativity School Application for Tuition Assistance for School Year Nativity of Our Lord Parish has a wonderful tradition of making a Catholic education available for all parish children. Accordingly, all parish families will be provided the opportunity to apply for financial assistance for the school year. We encourage families to visit our school's website to access and complete an online application: School.nativity-mn.org. Applications must be submitted online by Tuesday, March 1, NCCW Quarterly Deanery Meeting - February 18 The 3rd Quarterly Meeting of the St Paul Deanery Council of Catholic Women will be held at Nativity at 8:15am on Thursday, February 18. The day will include a business meeting, presenters from Common Hope Mission, Mass, and lunch and will finish around 1:15pm. Cost for the day is $13. RSVP by 2/15 by calling Jane at or Mary Ann at All women of the parish are encouraged and invited to attend. Family Service Morning - March 5 Save the Date! The Family Service Morning is Saturday, March 5 from 10-11:30am. Join families of all ages as we complete service projects together to serve our community. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Ash Wednesday Liturgies Masses will be offered at 7am, 8:15 am, 5pm, and 7pm. There will be no confessions offered. Penitential regulations Abstinence Catholics 14 years of age and older must abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent. Fasting Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 (inclusive) are required to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. On these days one full meal is allowed. Food may be taken at two other times during the day, in order to maintain strength according to each one s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted. Liquids, including milk and fruit juices, are allowed. Sick and in prison, and you did not visit me. Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not come to your help?
