The solemn feast of the Nativity of Our Lord is the patronal feast day of our parish. Christmas 2017 Masses for the Nativity of Our Lord Sunday, December 24: 3pm, 4:30pm (church and school auditorium), 6pm Monday, December 25: Midnight (with 11:30pm prelude), 7am, 8:15am, 11am (no evening Mass on 12/25 and no Confessions) Facilities Schedule The Adoration Chapel will be closed from 7am on Sunday, December 24 through noon on Monday, December 25. The church will not be locked between the 11am and 3pm Masses on 12/24. The School is closed through January 2. The Parish Office and NELC will be closed December and January 1. Liturgy Successive Feasts - December Since Christmas falls on a Monday this year, please note that there are two holy days of obligation in succession: Catholics are obliged to attend Mass for the 4th Sunday of Advent (12/24 or the evening of 12/23) as well as for Christmas (12/25 or the evening of 12/24). Masses for the 4th Sunday of Advent (12/23-24): 5pm (Saturday), 7am, 8:15am, 9:30am, 11am Evening Masses at Nativity on 12/24 will count for Christmas, but not for the 4th Sunday of Advent. Please see above for Christmas Masses (12/24-25). Mary, Mother of God - January 1 The solemn feast of Mary, Mother of God, is not a holy day of obligation this year. There will be two Masses offered on Monday, January 1, 9am and 11am, and there will be no Confessions available. 4 Men s Club 33rd Annual Fr. John W. Kelley Cribbage Open - January 5 Calling all cribbage players: The midwinter classic is back! Grab a partner, young or old, man or woman, and come to Steiner Hall on Friday, January 5 to play in the 33rd Annual Fr. Kelley Open. Registration starts at 6pm and play at 6:30. Pastoral Care Reception of Holy Communion If the weather, an illness, et al. prevents anyone from attending Mass and they would like to receive Communion sometime in the week that follows, contact Nancy at (651) or nshatek-suek@nativity-mn.org. Stewardship Year-end Giving If you re planning a year-end gift to Nativity of Our Lord, thank you! Perhaps the following information will be helpful to you. Gifts from IRAs If you make a direct transfer from your IRA to Nativity, the transfer goes toward fulfilling your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). Such a distribution does not increase your adjusted gross income, however, because it is a charitable gift distributed to a third party. This option is particularly beneficial if you do not itemize deductions on your tax return. Gifts of Stock Gifting stock might provide you with double the tax benefits! First, you might be able to claim a charitable contribution in the amount of the current market value of the stock (original cost plus any increase in value). Second, you will likely avoid paying taxes on the appreciated value of the donated stock. As always, please contact your financial or tax advisor for advice about your particular financial situation. Parking Additional Courtesy Parking To assist those with physical limitations, additional courtesy parking is now available on Prior Avenue near the rectory. The signed parking places are reserved for the handicapped, seniors, or those with limited mobility. It is not necessary to have an official handicap designation to take advantage of the courtesy parking. March for Life January 22 On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court s Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions legalized abortion on demand nationwide. Each year, pro-life Minnesotans mark the anniversary of Roe and Doe with the MCCL March for Life at the State Capitol in St. Paul. The 2018 event will begin at noon on the Capitol Mall, followed by a brief program on the Capitol steps at 12:30pm. Join us as we commemorate the lives lost to abortion and the women and men who have been hurt and call for renewed respect and protection for all members of the human family.
