This special day unites Catholics all over the world in prayer, celebration and care for the mission of the Church. By supporting World Mission Sunday you are directly helping missionaries in Rwanda and around the world to help heal the broken-hearted. There is a second collection this weekend. Sacred Heart Cake Fest Today! Come and join us for a Cake Fest straight after 11am Mass today (Sunday 23 rd October) in Sacred Heart Hall. Superb Cakes, delicious coffee and tea and two raffles Humungous Hamper to be raffled separately plus a second raffle with the usual fantastic prizes!! This is in aid of the Social Committee who supply so many wonderful events, including: Monthly Film Night, Children's Matinee, Charity Breakfasts, Coach Excursions, Quiz Nights, Children's Christmas Party and Parish New Year's Eve Party. 2 Parish Magazine The magazine will be published this weekend still only 50p. Blessing of the Graves This will take place on Sunday 13 th November at Sutton Road Cemetery. It will start at 3.00pm with prayers at the large cross and be followed by the blessing of individual graves. Stewards of the Gospel Week 3 There are two subjects this week please take a few minutes to answer one or a little longer to answer both your assistance is absolutely vital in planning for the future thank you. 1) Active Involvement of People In parishes where the same small, ageing group of parishioners has served the community extremely well over very many years, there may be some real anxiety about the future. As that small group retires and withdraws from active involvement, the community is at risk of floundering if younger parishioners are unable or unwilling to take their place. A) How diverse and active are parishioners within the community? B) How can the parish community invite and prepare more people to support it? 2) Worship and Spiritual Life A flourishing community has worship at the centre of its life. The ultimate goal is to make Jesus Christ known and loved. This is why Jesus Christ is at the heart of every worshipping community. The Eucharist is the principle means in which we celebrate this. The Holy Spirit may well be leading us to discover a variety of forms of worship and devotion in the future. For this very reason a living community makes every effort to encourage parishioners of all ages and backgrounds to participate fully in prayer, devotion, worship and study. God loves us individually. We respond to God's love in our own ways. When we come together for worship we all need to have a sense that our relationship with God is strengthened and affirmed. A) Are there aspects of your community's regular worship together at Mass that are working particularly well and deepen the spiritual life of those present? B) Is there anything your community can do to encourage a deeper prayer life and engagement with Scripture? Please either speak to Liam, Phyllis or members of the teams recently published. 3 Becoming a Catholic - RCIA The Course takes a break this week for half term. The next session is on Thursday 3 rd November at 8.00pm at Sacred Heart. The theme will be The Incarnation. Everyone is welcome including Catholics who want to know more about our faith. Holy Communion 2017 This is for children in school year 3 and above. Application forms are available in the porches. Before handing in the application form, you will need to attach the child s baptism certificate. If you do not have it, please obtain a duplicate from the parish of baptism. The closing date for applications is Sunday 6 th November. The initial parent s meeting is on Monday 14 th November at 7.30pm in Sacred Heart Hall. November Prayers for the Faithful Departed Envelopes and forms are now available in the church porches if you wish to include your departed friends and loved ones in our November prayers. The first three names on your list will be read out at Mass on 5 th and 6 th November. A donation is not required or requested: any donations will be treated as a Mass stipend for the Mass offered on All Souls Day. Sacred Heart Film Club presents Mr. Holmes (Cert. PG) Doors open at 6:30pm for 7pm screening. Long-retired and near the end of his life, Sherlock Holmes (Ian McKellen) grapples with an unreliable memory and must rely on his housekeeper's son as he revisits the stillunsolved case that led to his retirement. Free entry Refreshments available at a modest charge. Please remember to ensure items are new and suitable, full details are in the leaflet. Boxes will need to be handed in by mid November. The following items are still needed to add to partly filled boxes: small colouring books, tennis balls, adult toothbrushes and cuddly toys (big enough to cuddle but not too big). Charity Breakfast in aid of 'Christians Against Poverty' Saturday 29 th October in Sacred Heart Church Hall. Please come and support this very worthy cause A speaker will highlight the charities work with a short presentation followed by a Q&A session. All profits will go to the charity. The menu: Cereal, sausage, bacon, egg, tomatoes and beans, toast juice, tea and coffee all for 5. Doors open at 9.30am, breakfast at 10.00am followed by the speaker. Tickets from Sandy or Liam or liam.rand@btopenworld.com Cockney Evening in aid of the Charity Combat Stress Please join us for a fun Cockney evening on Saturday 19 th November in St John Fisher Hall in aid of the charity Combat Stress. Our cockney entertainer promises to keep us foot tapping all night, so come and join us for some good entertainment, good food and good company. Further details will be available soon. Tickets will be sold in advance. A great deal of attention is given, and rightly so, to veterans who are left with serious physical injuries after violent conflict: the deep psychological scars are harder to see. Combat Stress offers help to veterans who leave the armed forces with complex psychological problems and deep emotional trauma that, for some, result in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. We want to support this vital work and hope you will join us. FOSH (Friends of Sacred Heart School) News Thank you FOSH would like to thank you all for your time, help and generosity over the last year. We have together managed to raise 14, for Sacred Heart school. All of this money goes directly back into helping the children.e.g new basketball nets, transport to enable all the children to visit our local pools to help them learn to swim, mini ipads and many more.
