The money raised between March and May will be doubled by the government through the for scheme, so please do help support the very important and often dangerous work that CAFOD does all over the world. Early Mass The next early morning Mass will be this coming Friday, 6th May at 7.00am at Sacred Heart. A light breakfast will be available in the hall afterwards. Health and Safety (H&S) Representative - Sacred Heart We desperately need a Health and Safety (H&S) Representative for Sacred Heart. If you have experience in this area and are willing to volunteer, then please let me know. Thank you. Fr Lee Fashion Show Spectacular St John Fisher Hall Sacred Heart Social Committee in association with OCCASIONS BOUTIQUE SHOEBURYNESS, the catwalk will be alive with the most upto-date fashions you will believe you have landed in Paris, Milan or Rome. Tuesday 3 rd May, at St John Fisher Hall, doors open at 6.45pm for a 7.15pm show. Tickets You will have the opportunity to purchase clothing and accessories at show prices. For details of the evening session, please contact, Barbara Solomons on Southchurch and Prittlewell Parish Players Hopefully you have all sharpened your investigative skills and are prepared and ready to use them to solve the mystery of Who Killed Count Silvio? Death at the Opera will be performed on the 14 th May, 7 for a 7.30 start (you won t want to miss any of the clues). The tickets will cost 10, this will include a 3 course meal, (please let us know if you require the vegetarian option on purchase of tickets and bring your own drinks and glasses). The tables are set for 8 people - we will join people together to make groups of 8 so no need to try to make a group before, but you can if you like! You will be asked to solve the murder and complete your tables Report. There will be prizes for the winning table! You may also like to come in evening dress to add to the atmosphere. Tickets will be available very soon. Coach Excursion to Dover Castle & Wartime Tunnels Thursday 2nd June. The Coach departs Sacred Heart at 8.30am picking up at St John Fisher ten minutes later. We should arrive at the Castle at approximately 10.45am and the time is yours to explore until we depart at 5.00pm. The most iconic of all English fortresses commanding the gateway to the realm for nine centuries. Climb the Great Tower, meet the characters and immerse yourself in vivid medieval interiors. Then delve deep within Dover s White Cliffs to witness the drama in the Secret Wartime Tunnels. Roam through centuries of history at Dover Castle, from the Romans to the Cold War, in an action-packed day out. 3 Sacred Heart Film Club Presents Bridge of Spies (cert. 12) Wednesday 4 th May at Sacred Heart Church Hall doors open at 6.30pm for 7.00pm screening. During the Cold War, an American lawyer is recruited to defend an arrested Soviet spy in court, and then help the CIA facilitate an exchange of the spy for the Soviet captured American U2 spy plane pilot, Francis Gary Powers. Starring Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance and Alan Alda. Mark Rylance won an Oscar for his role in the film. Free entry, refreshments available on the night. If you require a lift to this event please speak to Sandy or Liam Support Our Youth Last year through your generosity we were able to assist Joao Pereira achieve his dream to visit Lourdes with the Brentwood Catholic Youth Service. This year we would like to complete his ambition of attending World Youth Day in Krakow On Tuesday May 24 th we are holding a meal at the Ashiana Restaurant, Southchurch Road, to assist Joao raise the 890 required to visit Krakow with Brentwood Catholic Youth Service. If you cannot attend the meal please consider giving a donation to assist us achieve our goal. This is a Knights of Saint Columba event. Ants in our Halls We have recently had some visiting ants in the kitchen of Sacred Heart Hall. They were attracted by unwrapped biscuits and cakes found in the fridge and in the bin. We want to avoid tempting them back again, so please ensure that when using either of our halls, you take any leftover food (that is not in sealed wrapping) away with you. Please also ensure that the floors are thoroughly swept and the tables/surfaces wiped clean. 4 In Other Parishes are Around the Diocese Executive Assistant Vacancy To support the Episcopal Vicar for Evangelisation and the Diocesan Strategic Planning Group (DSPG) in the rollout of the Stewards of the Gospel programme throughout the Diocese. Based at Cathedral House, but there will be extensive travel to parishes and deaneries along with some evening and weekend work. The role is for 28 hours per week. Closing date is midday on 4 th May. Mass for Migrants All are welcome to this lively celebration of the rich diversity of London s Catholic communities, which will be held on Bank Holiday Monday, 2nd May at 10.30am in Westminster Cathedral. It begins with a banner procession at 10.00am and testimonies from recent migrants and refugees at 10.15am. Cardinal Vincent Nichols will preside at the Mass. Fundraising Evening for ACROSS Saturday 18 th June from 7.45pm to 11.00pm in Our Lady of Canvey Church Hall, Canvey. The evening will include a three course Italian meal, Italian bingo, Italian music and singing.
