2 6 More Days FROM THE PASTOR S DESK On August 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Church of the Holy Child, Bishop Malooly will ordain eight deacons for service throughout the Diocese of Wilmington. Three of those eight men come from Holy Family: David Feaster, Darrell Lashomb, and Joseph Roach. These men, along with their wives Julie, Beth, and Barbara, have been engaged in a formation process for the past five years that has prepared them for ordination. Deacons, as ordained clergy in the Church, are called to three general areas of service: the ministry of the Word, the ministry of liturgy, and the ministry of charity. They receive their diaconal assignments from the Bishop, to whom they make a promise of obedience at ordination. Deacons continue to support themselves in their secular occupations after ordination and generally serve without remuneration. We congratulate David, Darrell, and Joe, and offer them our prayers for years of fruitful and fulfilling ministry in the Diocese of Wilmington. Our three new deacons will be available to receive your good wishes and congratulations in the parish hall immediately after all the Masses on the weekend of August 26/27. Called to Mercy Modules and Retreat fee is due August 31 st. More details regarding the retreat will be provided Youth Ministry s last official service project for the season was Summerfest Bootcamp. It was a sold out adventure filled with many projects, laughs, and food! We cannot thank you enough for all the hard work that you did setting up Summerfest, Adopt-a-Highway, painting curbs and light pole bases, clearing the parish garage, RE shed, building, and offices. 4 Parish News and Happenings Pray for Victims of Abortion Prayer Service - Sept. 9th - 10:00 am Cathedral Cemetery You are invited to attend a prayer service at the graveside of aborted children at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. The prayer service is part of the annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children co-sponsored by Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, Priests for Life and the Pro-Life Action League. Members of the Delaware Knights of Columbus and other representatives of the pro-life community will be in attendance. The grave in Cathedral Cemetery holds the earthly remains of 63 aborted babies that were abandoned at a Chicago abortion facility and brought to Wilmington by Delaware Right to Life in December of Widows and Widowers: SILENT PRAYER: Our parish has a group of people who will earnestly pray for any needs you have. This is done anonymously via a telephone prayer chain. If you have a special need for which you are in need of prayer call: , or before 7:30 p.m. and we will pray for you. Holy Family parish is joining with St. John/ Holy Angels to bring widows and widowers together once a month for a dining out event. This came with a $100,000 gift. The award was used to renovate the Little Sisters of the Poor chapel here in Newark on Salem Church Road. Gaudium et Spes, meaning Joy and Hope, is based on a Second Vatican Council document that focuses on the role of the Church and its members in the world in areas ranging from politics to peace to the challenges of contemporary atheism to morality and service to the community. The document ultimately points to an authentic meaning of life that can be found only in Christ Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to all men 18 years of age or older who are practical (that is, practicing) Catholics in union with the Holy See.
