3 3 Postings from Fr. Peter Happy Easter! Jesus Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Alleluia. It s nice to hear the word alleluia after Lent! There often seems to be a tie with the coming of Spring and the joys of Easter and hopefully, particularly with Easter being a bit later this year even us Wisconsinites will have the joys of the warmth of spring which corresponds to the warmth and joy that fills our heart on this great feast day. Along with Christmas, Easter forms the pillar of the Church s liturgical year these two great mysteries of the Incarnation and the Resurrection sum up so many aspects of our faith and reveal to us the depth of God s love for us that He would send His only Begotten Son to save us and that He loves us so much that He desires for us to conquer the grave and to be with Him in heaven for all eternity. I thought on this joyous day to share with you words from St. Gregory of Nazianzus St. Gregory lived from 329 AD 390 AD. In an Easter homily, he once preached, he said: This Day has salvation come to the world, the visible and unseen world. Christ is risen from the dead. Rise with Him! Christ has returned to Himself; return likewise. Christ is delivered from the grave; free yourselves from the bonds of sin. The gates of hell are opened, death is defeated, the old Adam discarded, the new has come. If any man lives in Christ, he is a new being: be renewed! This for us is the Feast of Feasts, the Festival of Festivals; as far above all the rest as the sun above the stars; not alone those related to the earth and to men, but even to those of Christ Himself, and celebrated in His honor today we celebrate the Resurrection itself; not now as something to be hoped for, but as come to pass, and uniting in itself the whole world. Let each one of us then, during this time, bring here and offer to God as our festival gift, some fruit of our lives, whether great or small: provided it is one of the spiritual gifts that are pleasing to God, which each of us has in his power to offer. For the gifts that are truly worthy of God not even the angels can offer: even these the first of all creatures, intelligent, pure beings, who see and proclaim His glory in heaven Today is a day of rejoicing and of offering ourselves, as St. Gregory says, in joy back to the Lord the Lord who has conquered sin and death the Lord who has risen from the tomb. THANK YOU to everyone who attended and who supported SMV s annual Auction for Education, A Night of PROMise, on March 25. We had a very successful event; final numbers will be published once all the expenses have been paid. That evening we had a Stop The Auction campaign to raise money to provide air conditioning in the school classrooms. It will cost a total of $30,000 to outfit 24 classrooms with window air conditioners ($1250 per classroom to purchase and install each unit). We raised $17,250 towards that goal. 5 APRIL 16, Adult Ministry News Join us in celebration of the Feast of Divine Mercy on April 23rd here at St. Mary's Visitation. The afternoon will begin with a presentation from internationally-known author and retreat master Fr. Cliff Ermantinger, STL, PhL, who is currently the Spiritual Consultant for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Confessions will also begin at 2:30pm. At 3:00pm we will have a Holy Hour, presided by newly ordained Deacon Will Arnold. Musica Oramus will sing the Divine Mercy Chaplet during the Holy Hour and we will also have an opportunity to venerate the Image of Divine Mercy and a relic of St. Maria Faustina. First Annual Knights of Columbus/St. Mary s Visitation Chicken Dinner Benefit Please join us! On Friday, May 5, 2017, local council No of the Knights of Columbus will hold a Chicken Dinner in the St. Mary s Parish Atrium from 4:30pm-7pm, in collaboration with St. Mary s Visitation School. Proceeds from the event will support the St. Mary s school library and the pro-life charitable and social activities of the Knights. The dinner, catered by Bunzel s, will feature a choice of baked chicken or macaroni and cheese, along with vegetables, potatoes, a roll, milk, coffee, water, soda, and gelato. Dine-in or carryout options are available. Dinner tickets are available for advance purchase for $12, or $7 for children 7 and under. The evening will also feature prizes and a silent auction. We are seeking the support of local business owners who value St. Mary s education and the Knights. We invite contributions of silent auction items and prizes, cash gifts and a placemat ad. The evening will be dedicated to the memory of Mike Ullrich, a tireless worker on behalf of St. Mary s and other charitable causes in the area, who was called home to Christ even as he was working to benefit the community in new ways, including kicking off planning for this event. 6 Easter 2017 Jesus told her, I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this? John 11:25-26 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, It can sometimes be hard to be a believer in today s ever-increasing secular world. We may feel a little alone and out of place as television, radio and social media highlight the Easter Bunny, candy, toys and egg hunts. Oftentimes, when pondering our Catholic faith at this festive time, we might ask ourselves, Do I really believe this? I m here to tell you that yes, I whole-heartedly do! My heart and soul tells me that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life those who believe will have eternal life. What joyfulness to feel that in your heart.
