Kris Dries Adoration Chapel To predispose our mind to welcome the Lord, who, as we say in the Creed, one day will come to judge the living and the dead, we must learn to recognize Him as present in the events of daily life. Therefore, Advent is, so to speak, an intense training that directs us decisively towards Him who already came, who will come, and who comes continuously. (words of Pope St. John Paul II) Use this holy season and the St. Mary s Perpetual Adoration Chapel to make your spiritual preparations for Christmas. The Chapel is available 24/7 for you. Say the family rosary. The rosary will be said in Church at 5pm on the 9th sponsored by the Christian Women. Can you and your family attend? Have you gone to Confession recently? There are many opportunities for you to do so during Advent. You can prepare in the chapel. On Wednesday, Decembe12th we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which commemorates the apparitions of Mary in Mexico. Mary was named Patroness of the Americas in Honor her and Jesus by making frequent visits to the Adoration Chapel and praying for the Americas and the whole world. March for Life Washington, DC Please join parishioners Bob and Peggy Hamill as we travel by motorcoach with Pro-Life Wisconsin to the 2019 March for Life in Washington, DC. The trip departs from St. Mary s Visitation the evening of January 16 and returns the morning of January 20. The cost is $300 per person (quad occupancy),$400 per person (double). Baptism Preparation Children ages 6 and under: Those seeking to have children baptized should be registered, active members of St. Mary s Visitation Parish. Parents who request baptism for a child are expected to complete a preparation class. It is offered bi-monthly. The scheduled classes for 2019 include: Saturday, January 12 th from 10:30-11:30am in church Saturday, March 2 nd from 10:30-11:30am in church It is generally easier if the preparation is done before the birth of the child. If you have attended a session within the last five years, it is not necessary to retake the class. Adults ages 12 and up: Adults who wish to join the Catholic Church and were not baptized can participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). The Sacrament of Matrimony The Catholic Church takes preparation for the Sacrament of Matrimony very seriously. Generally at least 6 months should be allowed for this preparation. Engaged couples themselves should call the parish office to schedule an appointment to discuss their plans. Marriage can take place any day of the week, although Saturday is generally preferred by couples. Sunday weddings are possible, but a wedding Mass is not allowed for such occasions. The Sacrament of the Sick The Sacrament of the Sick is available every Monday after the 6:30am Mass. Please stop by the sacristy prior to Mass to let the priest know. Members of the parish facing surgery or other medical procedures or tests are invited to receive this Sacrament prior to their appointment. According to IRS regulations, all contributions must be physically received by the close of business on December 31st to be considered donations in the 2018 calendar year. St. Mary s Parish Office will be open until 4pm on Monday, December 31st. Donations received at the New Year s Day Masses will be recorded as 2019 contributions. Communion to the Homebound One of our responsibilities as a worshiping community is to care for the sick of our parish. We can do that in two ways: prayer and bringing Communion to the sick. St. Mary s Homebound Ministry connects us to our parish members who are unable to celebrate Mass with us due to illness or physical limitations. Homebound ministers distribute Communion following a prayer format, share parish news and bring a bulletin to those they are visiting. Homebound visits are a wonderful opportunity to cultivate friendships and share your faith in the Lord with others. Our homebound parishioners are loved and prayed for and are vital members of our parish community. Sunday, December 16 3pm Conservatory of the Arts Concert The Perfect Gift Do you know someone who could use a comforting reminder that they are loved and being prayed for? If so, please pick up a prayer shawl in the Parish Office, a beautiful gift for family members, friends, homebound or those undergoing treatment or surgery. Recipients receive a comforting reminder that the prayers of our parish community are with them and that God is near when one is suffering. Prayer shawls have been knit or crocheted by parishioners with love and prayers for the recipients. They have been blessed, beautifully packaged and are free of charge. St. Mary s Prayer Shawl Ministry is supported by Christian Women. Please join us! 5 Poinsettia Plants for Church Sanctuary The Environment Committee will be taking orders for poinsettia plants in the Atrium after all Masses December 8-9. For a $15 donation, these poinsettias will be a part of our church sanctuary decorations this Christmas. You may designate the poinsettia as a memorial or a simple gift for a loved one, friend or neighbor. The names of those honored will be published in the bulletin as we approach Christmas. What a wonderful way for all of us to share the splendor and beauty of Christmas with those we love and each other. Cards may also be purchased in the Parish Office or, you may simply fill out the form below and mail in your order. Gift cards purchased via mail will be sent to you for giving. The option for half day K3 still exists, with dismissal at 11:30am. Parents can choose 2, 3, 4, or 5 school days, the price is $1,150 per day, per year for the school year. After School Care will not be available for K3 students. Please call the school office for registration details. After School Care Coordinator St. Mary s Visitation is looking for a friendly, energetic person to work as our After School Care Coordinator. Responsibilities include supervising a support staff member, recording and maintaining usage records, monitoring students arrival and sign out, assisting with snack time and clean up, providing students with appropriate play materials, help with homework, and above all, making After School Care a fun place to be at the end of the school day. 6 AROUND THE ARCHDIOCESE Winter Weekend Retreat for Young Adults Brew City Catholic is hosting a restful retreat for young adults February 1-3 at Schoenstatt Retreat Center. Take some time to rest, relax, and enjoy being away from your daily routine. This retreat is an excellent way to explore the deeper questions of life within a dynamic community of young adults who are going through the same things you are. Save the Date: Respect Life Mass On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, Lumen Christi Parish St James Lane in Mequon will host our Respect Life Mass with the Rosary starting at 6:30pm and Mass at 7:00pm. Bereavement Ministry Sooner or later, everyone faces the loss of a loved one. Our Bereavement Ministry Team invites you to join us in monthly meetings of care, support and understanding for anyone grieving a loss. Our program called: A Journey Shared meets informally. We will take a journey together along an unknown path, yet, as fellow travelers, we will share that journey and learn from one another along the way.
