John s 45 th Anniversary of Ordination JOHNSTON, RI PASTOR S COMMENTS Borrowed from Paul Turner New Neighbors Today we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. He has entered a new neighborhood, and he has made room for us. After three days in the tomb, Jesus rose again to display his power over death all death, his and ours. The resurrection is a sign of God s power and of human hope. We have nothing to fear. We trust God s complete desire to end all misery and to raise us up in glory. The Letter to the Colossians says, If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above.... Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. With the resurrection of Jesus, we have moved into a new neighborhood. We no longer live in a place of sin and suffering. We live in hope and glory. We sustain this happy life when we seek what is above, not what is on earth. We contemplate the life of prayer, charity and peacefulness, and not the life of greed, selfishness and hatred. We live in a new place away from the addictions of old. This Easter day brings immense rejoicing. It also brings expectations. It expects that we who are privileged to live with the risen Christ will keep up the neighborhood. We will have all the help we need from the Spirit who dwells within us. This Easter, let us joyfully think of what is above and place ourselves at the service of the One who will raise us up in glory. Fr. We allow our minds to be preoccupied with little things and so spend many hours without thinking of Jesus. And yet our hearts and minds, body and souls, belong only to him. St. Bartholomew Parish will commemorate its Annual Parish Dinner Dance on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 7:00 PM at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick. Music will be provided by Ambrosiani. A Silent Auction will also be held that evening for those who wish to participate and bid on the many great items. Tickets for the evening are $45.00 per person. Walk-ins are always welcome CATHOLIC CHARITY APPEAL Faith and Good Works If you have not yet donated to this year s Catholic Charity Appeal, please consider making a 10 month pledge of $20 per month. This translates to about $5 a week. If you do that then you can contribute $200 toward the many works of mercy to help the poor, the elderly and the needy of our diocese. Extra envelopes are near the Church doors for your convenience. THANK YOU TO THE PASSION PLAY-ERS 2017 A heartfelt "Thank You" is extended to all the "Passion Play-ers" who volunteered so much time in practice so as to present a moving dramatic presentation of the Palm Sunday Gospel this past weekend. We were blessed with many "newcomers," including angels, disciples and some members who played more than one role, in order to make the presentation meaningful. Our sincere thanks to Tom Roy, our music director, for his patience in working with us at dress rehearsal and during each Mass. A special thank you to our costume-er, Luisa Ruscetta, whose work made us look appropriately reverential. Also, a special thanks to Linda and Mike Latour, Carol and Joe Sabetta, and Kayla Pagliarini, our Sunday Morning cooks, who provided us with much food to sustain us through three Masses on Sunday morning.
