James Carrig Adoration Chapel Advent s intention is to awaken the most profound and basic emotional memory within us, namely, the memory of the God who became a child. This is a healing memory; it brings hope! The purpose of the Church s year is continually to rehearse her great history of memories, to awaken the heart s memory so that it can discern the star of hope...it is the beautiful task of Advent to awaken in all of us memories of goodness and thus to open doors of hope. Are you still looking for that perfect gift for your spouse, children, siblings, friends? The year give the best gift of all a gift of prayers. Spend an hour in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel and offer it for his/her/their intentions. Then pick up a Gift of Love card in the vestibule of the Chapel, fill it in, and present it as a Christmas gift. The cards are free and there is no limit to the number you can take and use. This is one gift which anyone could use, and no one can ever have too many prayers! End of Year Contributions St. Mary s Visitation Parish, School and other ministries owe their success to the generous donations of its parishioners. We appreciate your contributions throughout the calendar year. Were you aware that historically 18% of all general stewardship donations are received in the month of December? We count on and appreciate being included in your end of year giving again this year, thank you! According to IRS regulations, all contributions must be physically received by the close of business on December 31st to be considered donations in the 2018 calendar year. REGISTRATION & SACRAMENTS Parish Registration St. Mary s Visitation is always happy to welcome new members! If you are interested in joining the parish, please call the Parish Office, or Nora Mihm, nmihm@stmaryeg.org to make an appointment. Baptism Preparation Children ages 6 and under: Those seeking to have children baptized should be registered, active members of St. Mary s Visitation Parish. Parents who request baptism for a child are expected to complete a preparation class. It is offered bi-monthly. The scheduled classes for 2019 include: Saturday, January 12 th from 10:30-11:30am in church Saturday, March 2 nd from 10:30-11:30am in church It is generally easier if the preparation is done before the birth of the child. If you have attended a session within the last five years, it is not necessary to retake the class. Adults ages 12 and up: Adults who wish to join the Catholic Church and were not baptized can participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). The Sacrament of Matrimony The Catholic Church takes preparation for the Sacrament of Matrimony very seriously. Generally at least 6 months should be allowed for this preparation. Engaged couples themselves should call the parish office to schedule an appointment to discuss their plans. Marriage can take place any day of the week, although Saturday is generally preferred by couples. Sunday weddings are possible, but a wedding Mass is not allowed for such occasions. The Sacrament of the Sick The Sacrament of the Sick is available every Monday after the 6:30am Mass. Please stop by the sacristy prior to Mass to let the priest know. Members of the parish facing surgery or other medical procedures or tests are invited to receive this Sacrament prior to their appointment. The food in November helped us to give extra for Thanksgiving. Several of the families that come to us comment about the nice variety of food we offer, not just canned vegetables. We and the people we serve thank you again and we hope and pray that you will continue to help those in need. Bernard Braeger Blessed Savior St. Vincent De Paul March for Life Washington, DC Please join parishioners Bob and Peggy Hamill as we travel by motorcoach with Pro-Life Wisconsin to the 2019 March for Life in Washington, DC. The trip departs from St. Mary s Visitation the evening of January 16 and returns the morning of January 20. The cost is $300 per person (quad occupancy),$400 per person (double). Communion to the Homebound One of our responsibilities as a worshiping community is to care for the sick of our parish. We can do that in two ways: prayer and bringing Communion to the sick. St. Mary s Homebound Ministry connects us to our parish members who are unable to celebrate Mass with us due to illness or physical limitations. Homebound ministers distribute Communion following a prayer format, share parish news and bring a bulletin to those they are visiting. Homebound visits are a wonderful opportunity to cultivate friendships and share your faith in the Lord with others. Our homebound parishioners are loved and prayed for and are vital members of our parish community. The Perfect Gift Do you know someone who could use a comforting reminder that they are loved and being prayed for? If so, please pick up a prayer shawl in the Parish Office, a beautiful gift for family members, friends, homebound or those undergoing treatment or surgery. Recipients receive a comforting reminder that the prayers of our parish community are with them and that God is near when one is suffering. Prayer shawls have been knit or crocheted by parishioners with love and prayers for the recipients. They have been blessed, beautifully packaged and are free of charge. Please consider joining us to meet and pray for our parishioners who are studying to become Catholic at the Easter Vigil Mass in April. VIBE Bible Study is Back! Beginning Thursday, January 10th from 9-10:45am in the Senior Center, we will be studying the Book of Hebrews. Sessions will be taught by Josh Dieterich and Fr. John Gibson. This is a great opportunity to dive more deeply into this powerful text. The cost for the classes is $20, which includes the Book text as well as the commentary and discussion questions by Dr. Scott Hahn. Parent and Teen Safeguarding Session Parents and teens, please save the date and plan to attend Understanding Relationships, a Safeguarding Our Families talk on Sunday, January 20, 10-10:45am in the Parish Atrium. Catholic Formation teens are scheduled to attend. The talk follows High School Theology Curriculum under Justice and Morality. The goal of this session is to help students understand the continuum of sexual assault and distinguish between myth and fact. All teens and their friends (Catholic or not) are invited to attend. Friday, December 21 8am All School Mass 8:45am The Living Nativity, Church 11am Dismissal for Christmas Break SCHOOL NEWS St. Mary s To Offer All Day K3 Program New for the school year, St. Mary s Visitation will offer all day K3, from 7:45am-2:30pm each school day. The option for half day K3 still exists, with dismissal at 11:30am. Parents can choose 2, 3, 4, or 5 school days, the price is $1,150 per day, per year for the school year. After School Care will not be available for K3 students. Please call the school office for registration details. After School Care Coordinator St. Mary s Visitation is looking for a friendly, energetic person to work as our After School Care Coordinator. Responsibilities include supervising a support staff member, recording and maintaining usage records, monitoring students arrival and sign out, assisting with snack time and clean up, providing students with appropriate play materials, help with homework, and above all, making After School Care a fun place to be at the end of the school day. 6 AROUND THE ARCHDIOCESE Winter Weekend Retreat for Young Adults Brew City Catholic is hosting a restful retreat for young adults February 1-3 at Schoenstatt Retreat Center.
