3 3 Postings from Fr. Peter Fall Stewardship Appeal In the First Reading for last Sunday s Mass we heard the story of Naaman the Aramean. Naaman was afflicted with leprosy and with the assistance of Elisha the prophet and with God s grace, he is healed of this terrible disease. He responds to this tremendous gift of healing by pledging to worship no other god other than the God of Israel and to make sacrifices to Him in thanksgiving. In this brief passage from scripture we see the heart of what stewardship is a recognition that everything we have that is good comes from the hands of God and from that gratitude to give generously to others and to God Himself. This understanding of true stewardship is integral to our understanding of ourselves as disciples of Christ, in their Pastoral Letter on stewardship, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops wrote, Jesus not only calls people to Him but also forms them and sends them out in His service. He knows our personal histories, our strengths and weaknesses, our destinies; he has a purpose in mind for each one of us. Becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ leads naturally to the practice of stewardship. These linked realities; discipleship and stewardship, then make up the fabric of a Christian life in which each day is lived in an intimate, personal relationship with the Lord (Stewardship a Disciple s Response). St. Mary s will be conducting its annual Fall Stewardship Appeal over the coming weeks and you will shortly be receiving, in the mail, information on stewardship and how you can take a part in supporting St. Mary s financially. The letters should be arriving in the final days of October or early November and we hope to have pledge cards returned in the regular collection or by being mailed or dropped off to the Rectory by November 6 th. As a thank you, we ll be hosting Doughnut Sunday on November 13 th. We are blessed to have a history here at St. Mary s of parishioners with a deep sense of generosity who have willingly and lovingly given to help their parish be what it is today. Can I ask you to make sure to take a few moments when the letter arrives to read it through? Then, spend some time in prayer and examine what God has given you and decide from that realization what you may be able to give to support the parish over the course of the coming year. Unlike businesses which have products to sell, the parish relies solely on the good will and generosity of its parishioners to supports its ministries and operations - it relies on you! Thank you for all you do for St. Mary s and the multitude of ways you support St. Mary s with your time, talent and treasure! Adult Formation Happenings Visitation Institute: The Visitation Institute s fall book study of St. Augustine s Confessions has begun. You are still welcome to join us for the remainder of the sessions. The cost is just $15 which includes the book. Contact Josh for more information or to register. Friends of Life: Baby Bottle Campaign After Mass on October 15 and 16, our parish will be participating in a Baby Bottle Campaign for the Women s Support Center of Milwaukee. The Women s Support Center is a very busy Catholic, pro-life pregnancy Center on 21st and Wisconsin Avenue serving approximately 150 women a month. All services they offer are 100% free. These services include pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, counseling, baby supplies, teaching Natural Family Planning and much more. In 2015, they served over 1300 women! They are currently in great need of monetary funding. On the above dates, please take a baby bottle and fill with any type of monetary donation (loose change, dollar bills or checks). The bottles should be returned three weeks later, Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November 6. Thank you for your life-saving generosity!

S E N I O R L I V I N G O P T I O N S Thursday, October 27 th am / Senior Center Senior Living Options is a presentation developed for seniors and families who are primarily considering living options outside their home, from independent living retirement communities to the various forms of assisted living. If you are a senior or a caregiver, living at home may no longer be the safest or healthiest option for you or your loved one. There are an array of assisted living and continuum of care options that can be confusing and sometimes overwhelming for seniors and their families. Characteristics and appropriateness of each will be discussed. In addition, we ll discuss other care options, such as home care or adult day services and financial and other considerations in determining when to consider assisted living. The presentation concludes with a brief overview of the free service provided by Oasis Senior Advisors, a personalized service to help seniors and their families find the best fit community for their next phase of senior living. Prayer of Eucharistic Adorers: Heavenly Father, increase our faith in the real presence of Your Son, Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. We desire to adore Him, to give Him thanks and to make reparation for sins. We need Your peace in our hearts and among nations. We need conversion from our sins and the mercy of Your forgiveness. May we obtain this through prayer and our union with the Eucharistic Lord. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Join us as we gather to say a Patriotic Rosary, Wednesdays at 1pm in church. All are welcome to attend! Christian Women Join Forces with Hunzinger Corporation To Support Our Military! Beginning Monday, October 17 through Saturday, November 5, there will be bins in the Atrium and back entrance of the church to collect most frequently requested items for our military. These items will be taken to Hunzinger Construction by November 11th, where they will be assembled into care packages. Items most needed are personal letters, holiday items, beef jerky, Chex mix, nuts, trail mix, Gatorade powder, Crystal Light on the go, any snack food, after-shave lotion, soft toilet paper, Q-tips, Listerine pocket packs, toothbrushes and paste, sunglasses, bandanas, microwavable meals, desserts, stationery, pens and pencils. Small toys, such as Happy Meal toys and school supplies are in demand to pass out to local children by our troops. What better way to get in the Christmas spirit! All Souls Remembrance Ministry The act of burying the dead is consistent with our belief that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and deserves respect at all stages of existence. For a wide variety of reasons, families may have not yet provided for the final disposition of the cremated remains of family members. The cremated remains are often taken home with plans for proper disposition at some time in the future. Since many times cremated remains are never retrieved from the funeral home or crematory, those sites will also be offered the opportunity to bring forth remains for respectful disposition. On All Souls Day, Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at 9 a.m., the Archdiocese of Milwaukee will offer to people of all faiths the opportunity to bury the cremated remains of their loved ones in a community crypt at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7301 W. Nash St., Milwaukee. This service is provided free of charge. Interment arrangements (administrative recordkeeping and family approval) must be finalized by 5pm Wednesday, Oct. 26. Families will need to bring the cremated remains, enclosed in a sealed and labeled container acceptable to Catholic Cemeteries, to Holy Cross Cemetery on Nov. 2 between 7:30-8:30am, to facilitate preparations for the committal service at 9am. Specific information regarding each individual cremated remains within the community crypt will be documented and records maintained by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Catholic Cemeteries. Families who later decide to reinter the cremated remains to a crypt or niche within one of the eight Catholic Cemeteries would be responsible for those costs.
