1 Archdiocese of Detroit St. John s Deaf Center Our Lady of Loretto West Detroit Catholic Deaf Catholic Deaf Newsletter April Volume 36 Issue 4 Dear Brothers and Sisters, It is hard to believe that we are in the fifth week of Lent. I hope you are having a nice Lent deepening your relationship with God who is all loving and merciful. Next Sunday, we will begin the Holy Week. During the Holy Week, we will have: Seder meal at SJDC on Wednesday Chrism Mass at the cathedral on Thursday Holy Thursday Mass at SJDC on Thursday Good Friday services at OLL and SJDC Easter Vigil Mass at Holy Innocents Church Easter Sunday Masses at OLL and Holy Innocents Church For more specific information on time for each event, please look for the schedule somewhere in this newsletter. On Good Friday, Catholics between the ages of are to fast. To fast means to have only one full meal without meat. If you have questions about fasting, please see me. It is very important that we have a good number of deaf people attending the Chrism Mass at the cathedral. That way, we continue to show our presence to the bishops and other people in the Archdiocese. I will be very grateful if you could go to this Mass. Please let Jakki know if you are coming. We will have a special visitor on Sunday, April 30. Fr. Roberto Mercado! Who is he? He is the new priest for Deaf Catholics in Chicago. Fr. Joe Mulcrone, who serves Deaf Catholics in Chicago for more than 40 years, is retiring in June. Fr. Roberto wants to learn more about the Deaf Ministry and he will stay in Detroit for a few days. He will come with me to OLL and Holy Innocents for Mass on April 30. On that day, two boys, Gabe and Tesmer will make their first holy communion at Holy Innocents. God bless you. Fr. MD
