5 N E W S & E V E N T S SMG St. Vincent de Paul Conference The SMG St. Vincent de Paul Conference invites you to attend our meetings to learn more about our ministry. We meet at 10:00am, every other Sunday in Piper II (see parish calendar). If you or someone you know in our parish boundaries is experiencing a crisis and in need of help with food, clothing, rent, utilities or medical/dental attention, we have many resources available. Call SMG SVDP at , ext. 50 and leave your name, phone number and details. Messages are checked daily. We are overwhelmed and grateful for your continued generosity toward our food drives and special donations - Thank you! Our current need is for Peanut Butter & Jelly. Welcome Sr. Betty Banja from Catholic Charities Sr. Betty Banja is from the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She has spent the last 20 years living in Northern Sudan advocating for persons affected by persecution and war. Her Christian message of love, peace, and reconciliation is both powerful and inspiring. Her mission has now brought her to Arizona, where she works for Catholic Charities Community Services, promoting Catholic Charities faith based mission and the vulnerable people we serve. Catholic Charities serves many populations, throughout the Diocese of Phoenix, like: providing early education to low income children, veterans, persons experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, and victims of human sex trafficking. Sr. Betty s mission is to also help refugee families, women and children, who are forced to leave their homes and their countries because of their religion, political views, or war. Working with refugees from around the world reminds her that Jesus Christ, himself, was once a refugee (as his parents fled to Egypt, to save his life, when he was just a little boy). This, unfortunately, is a common refugee story. Catholic Charities recognizes the dignity in every human person and so we strive to help refugees and others in need with solutions that permanently improve their lives. We invite you to attend mass and hear her speak January 26 th and 27 th as she shares her story with us. All are welcome. The Pastoral Council has been working with parish staff to update our parish registration database. This is a result of technology advances over the years, i.e. cell phones are replacing land lines, the use of & texting, families growing or downsizing as children move out, people living in the house is different than when initially registered, and families moving and not updating their contact information with the parish. We want to make sure SMG has all our parishioners current information. The weekends of January 20 and January 27 we will have a copy of your current registration file available for pickup at tables outside the front entrance of church at all Masses. Please pick up your packet and confirm that the information is up to date. If updating is required, please make the necessary notations (be sure to add and cell phone numbers for each adult member) and return it to the parish office via US Mail, drop at the parish office, scan and to smgoretti@smgaz.org, or place in an envelope and drop it in the collection basket at church. Please return any corrections by February 15, If no updating is required, please indicate that on the first page of the file and return it. Oftentimes people contribute to the offertory and assume this means they are registered. Without a completed registration form on file, we are unable to add someone to our database. If this is your circumstance, please take a few minutes to complete the form (available on our website, in the parish office and in the brochure holder in the church vestibule), and return it by February 15, Any packet not picked up will be mailed but PLEASE, help us save the expense of mailing and get yours after Mass on the specified weekends.
