3 S T E WA R D S H I P N E W S 3 "What can I do to be a good steward and disciple of Jesus?" HAPPY EASTER! We are an Easter people. The joy of Easter is celebrated not only during the liturgical season we call Easter. It is celebrated every day of the year. The Mass is the Paschal Mystery, and every time it is celebrated, we participate in the sacrifice, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. As St. Paul teaches, we die with Christ and rise with Him in the Holy Spirit. We are transformed into new creations. We are renewed. Stewards of God s abundant gifts hold dear the promise of renewal and pledge themselves to the work of reconciliation, healing and proclamation of the risen Lord. For Christian stewards, each day is a new dawn for living in the light of Christ. There is much about dying and rising with Christ that we do not know; much about the Paschal Mystery we do not understand. But stewards of God s love are always open to learning more; to being called out of their ignorance and into the light of faith which comes with an ever-deeper understanding of its peace and joy. Easter is a good time to reflect on how we experience the joy of Christ s peace. It is also a time to ask ourselves how we can experience the gift of Easter each day of our lives. STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS It is Easter! Today is a day of great joy for us as Catholics. The joy is reflected all around us in the way that people are dressed, in the way they approach Mass on this day. They key for us today is to carry that joy away from Mass to our celebrations and our lives. We hear about similar joy in today s Gospel from St. John. When Mary of Magdala goes to the tomb and discovers it empty, she does not walk leisurely back to tell the others. She runs, filled with excitement and with the same joy we must feel. Joy is contagious. That is what we need to spread when we go forth on this glorious day. Easter for us should be an encounter with the Risen Lord. We are to share the Good News. That is what Mary of Magdala does. Perhaps we have a difficult time talking about the joy we feel at Easter and at other times in the Church. We should not be hesitant; sharing the joy is part of being a disciple of Christ; it is what makes us an Easter people. All of the Gospels tell of the Resurrection of Christ. They may differ in some details, but they all agree that Christ is Risen. When His Apostles go forth to spread the Good News, they speak of His Resurrection, not the empty tomb. That is what we need to do, what we need to share the Easter joy of being a Catholic and a Christian. CHARITY & DEVELOPMENT APPEAL Thank you to the 166 families who have contributed $60,139 to the Charity and Development Appeal. Every gift and prayer is important to those that rely on the CDA to provide services to the community. It is not too late to make a gift to the CDA. Our parish needs only $40,000 to make our goal of $100,000. Please consider making your gift online today at or completing a donor card, which can be found at the back of the church. Every Easter, we recall these glorious events, but we do more than just remember.

The joy of Easter is not a nostalgic kind of happiness that only looks backwards. It is instead a call to rejoice in the gifts that we can enjoy today and in eternity.

The two Marys were in for a surprise. They had come, as usual, to do the ritual anointing of their dead friend's body. But on their arrival, not only was there an earthquake, there was also an angel whose "appearance was like lightning" and whose "clothing was white as snow." The brave guards were so scared they "became like dead men," but the women managed to stay on their feet and hear the words of the angel. Guess what! Jesus isn't here. He's been raised from the dead. Now go share the good news! No wonder these women were feeling a mixture of emotions! They were frightened by these incredible supernatural events, but overjoyed that Jesus was alive again. Just imagine their joy when "Jesus met them on their way," and they were able to embrace him and worship him. What a day! Now, we too join in the celebration of this day of all days. Every Easter, we recall these glorious events, but we do more than just remember. We also rejoice that our Lord is alive right now, that death and sin have been conquered forever, that the gates of heaven are open for us. We may not have seen the angel, felt the earthquake, or kissed the feet of the risen Lord, but we are nonetheless the beneficiaries of this momentous event. We are an Easter people, a people in the hands of a loving God whose power can overcome all the terrible threats and trials of existence with the amazing gift of eternal life. We bring our Catholic identity and values to the miracle of creating new families through infant adoption. We have many families on our waiting list BECAUSE they want to adopt through Catholic Charities, but we simply do not have enough infants for our families waiting to adopt.
