He knew a lot about the Law of Moses (Pentateuch), the prophets and the psalms. He had the zeal to keep and uphold the rules and the norms of the Old Testament. Paul was a sinner because out of ignorance he fought the new-way (New Testament). He was ready to kill because of his belief in the old- Law. He didn t want to change from the old way to the new way, not only that, he fought the new way because of his belief in the old way. After the metanoia (change), once again Paul became a saint in the Christian tradition. With all his zeal he followed the new way to its logical conclusion, dying for Christ. Change will always be a challenge to our existence. If we don t adapt to changes and challenges of our life, we don t grow. We are always changing for good, to be better and ultimately to the best we can be. Catholic Home Missions 5/6 Community Ministry* My parents were not Y2K compliant. My grandparents walked around naked. My great-grandpa was a pagan or heathen. Here I am in 21st century using internet, clothed perfectly with many dresses to spare. Like with the advent of Christianity I cannot remain in the darkness to worship stones and woods in the name of God. I have seen the light like Paul and must follow the new way which is the knowledge of the true God as revealed in Christ, the only begotten son of God. The words of the Holy Scripture will continue to enlighten us, and change us from our former ways to the new way. When I was in elementary school, the teachers gave us a lot of theories that helped us to conquer that age bracket. Going into middle and high school I discovered that some of the theories are mere foundation for what is to come in the future. This happened in mathematics and I am still a good math student. Fr. It is a life long journey towards a deeper relationship with Christ. Ongoing Faith Formation Program will Resume in September These classes meet on, Pre-K3 through 1st Grade: 9-10: a.m. 2nd Grade through 8th Grade: 10:15-11:30 a.m. Sacramental Preparation Program You may register for this program if your child has already completed one year of Ongoing Faith Formation or is enrolled in a Catholic school. This program is for baptized children in 2nd grade and higher. High School Confirmation Program This program begins in September and culminates with the Sacrament of Confirmation in May. The candidate sessions tale place on s, 5:30-7:00 p.m. RCIA (adapted for children) If your child is seven years or older and unbaptized, we provide the Rite of Christian Initiation adapted for children. Please contact Mary Kane at mykane@dsj.org for more information. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Our next meeting is Tuesday, May 1st at 7:00-8:30pm in the PMC. Come with any questions that you may have about faith, religion, and the Catholic Church. This program is for adults who are seeking baptism, or were baptized Catholic but have not celebrated the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. This is a process marked by liturgical rites that are celebrated with the community. This process is centered on the readings and includes attending Mass. 5 COMMUNITY MINISTRY Outreach Dinner Thank you to the St. Justin School 5th Grade who sponsored last week s Outreach Dinner. Our next Outreach Dinner will be taking place, May 6. It will begin at 1:30 p.m. in our Parish Small Hall. All Senior Citizen members of our Parish are invited, along with a guest, to this meal followed by BINGO. Financial Assistance for Parishioners St. Justin Community Ministry has set aside some funds to provide Parishioners with limited Financial Assistance when facing unexpected issues. If you find yourself in need, contact Joe Bauer at extension 109. Fresh Fruit and Vegetables needed For those of you who have back yard fruit trees with an over abundance of fruit and/or gardens with vegetables please consider donating what you can to Community Ministry. The fruit and vegetables are a welcome addition to the food that we distribute to those seeking assistance. MINISTRY NEWS Food & Diaper Collection Most of you are aware of the Community Ministry Collection Barrels that are located in our Church. During the month of May, we will continue to request canned Soup, Pork & Beans, Chili, Macaroni & Cheese and Tomato Sauce. We are also in need of Baby Diapers (Size 4 5). These are items that we do not receive often from the Second Harvest Food Bank. Please feel free to drop donations in the barrels in the Church, the barrel in the Foyer of the School or bring items to the Parish Office. THANK YOU! Our community changed lives this Lent, and CRS Rice Bowl wants to say THANK YOU! TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION In medieval times, one country, Scotland, linked its economy to the liturgy. Four holy days of the church calendar were keyed to the legal year. On these days, rents were due, clergy and servants were paid, and contracts and leases would begin or end. The term days were Pentecost (called Whitsunday), the Feast of Saint Martin on November 11 (Martinmas), the Feast of the Presentation on February 2 (Candlemas), and August 2 (Lammas), a harvest festival. On Lammas day, the first loaf of bread from the summer wheat harvest was given to the village priest. After the Reformation, which swept the Catholic festivals away, the term days were gradually detached from the old feasts. It was only in 1990 that the term days were anchored on the 28th of February, May, August, and November. Today the old Scottish universities are the last hold-outs, still naming their terms or semesters after the old festivals. Graduating Eighth Graders in Parochial and Public Schools April is the time to apply for the Msgr. Mentasti Scholarship Award. This year a $4,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating 8 th grade student who has been accepted to a Catholic High School for the 2018 fall semester. The student s parents must be registered, supporting parishioners of St. Justin Parish Community. STAND AND BE COUNTED Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catholic community and a commitment in all its dimensions brings you advantages, recognition, and responsibilities of many kinds. Being a registered parishioner makes things much easier when it is time for infant Baptism, weddings, when asked to be a Baptismal or Confirmation Sponsor and even funerals. We are often asked to provide affidavits for Baptismal and Confirmation Sponsors. We can only do this if a person is a registered, active and contributing member. Would you like to join a group of us who volunteer our time to launder and iron linens used during Masses? You would pick up the linens on a Monday morning after Mass (or they can be picked up anytime from the PMC after morning Mass) and return them by that Wednesday. A member s turn comes up about once every two months. We are in need of two more members who can help! You would be given simple directions on how to properly launder and iron. It is a nice way to be of service to our parish community please consider joining us!
