Marriage Couples registered within the parish are required to make arrangements at least six months prior to the date of marriage by calling and must complete a Marriage Preparation Program. Sacrament of the Sick If you know of any parishioner who is ill, at home, or in the hospital, please notify the Parish Office so our Eucharistic Ministers of the Sick may bring communion or anointing can be arranged. Baptism Infant baptism is celebrated following completion of our parish Baptism Preparation Program. New and expectant parents are invited to call the Parish Office at Youth Confirmation High School Youth Confirmation is celebrated during the Easter Season. Registration occurs in the summer. This Wednesday we enter the season of Lent. We are so familiar with the practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, that often we are unaware of the reason for them. The season of Lent was and is a period of Purification and Enlightenment for those celebrating the sacraments of initiation at Easter Vigil. Over time, the entire community joined them in support and solidarity. Because this connection is often lost, the average person in the pew fails to recognize his/her importance to those joining the faith. The Sunday Mass, celebrated well, is the great equalizer. We are all children of God. No more, no less. As such, we are called to treat one another in that manner, not only while in church, but also in the parking lot, at the grocery store, at school, at work, and yes, even in traffic. The degree to which we display Christian charity wherever we go is the degree to which those entering our church will experience Christ s love and consider joining us. Do we greet and welcome those who come and sit in our pews? Do we look forward to witnessing young families baptize their babies and congratulate them afterwards? Do our hearts swell with joy as we experience First Communion and Confirmation masses within our community? These moments bring Jesus great joy. If a family looks as if it has been a while since they have been to mass, perhaps they could use some fellowship and support. Consider making the speed with which you exit the parking lot less important than smiling at the other drivers, with whom you have just shared the Body of Christ. If you are at a Mass where our catechumens are present, feel free to walk up and greet them with enthusiasm. If you see someone new in line for confession, it is not a sin to smile and greet the person. God rejoices when the lost are found. Next Sunday, at the 10:30 a.m. Mass, we witness our catechumens sign the book of the Elect and send them to the Rite of Election at the Cathedral that afternoon. Jonathan Blake, Leonardo Galaviz, Justin Hidalgo, Luis Miranda-Ortiz, Patrick Nguyen, Asia Olmega, Aimee Rodriguez, Tanisha Shelke, and Candace Soles will become the Elect of our parish. The following week, on Saturday, after our day of retreat, and after celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation (some for the first time), we will celebrate the Penitential Rite at the 5 p.m. Mass. Jennifer Barrett, Edwin Cacdac, Miguel Rodriguez, Andrea Rodriguez- Quinones, and Jennifer Stuckey will enter the final phase leading to Confirmation. Kyle Wenz and Roxanne Zazzara will enter the final phase leading to their reception into the Full Communion of the Catholic Church, as well as the completion of the sacraments of initiation through Confirmation and Eucharist. Please join your prayers with those of the RCIA team, their sponsors, and loved ones, in wishing them all the blessings and peace that is their inheritance in Christ. Holy Communion will be distributed only into the hands of communicants; during this time, Holy Communion will not be distributed on the tongue. 3. The Sign of Peace should be adapted so as to allow for a greeting that does not involve shaking hands or touching. 4. People should avoid holding hands during the recitation or singing of the Lord s Prayer. 5. A reminder that the obligation to participate in Sunday Mass does not hold for those who are seriously ill or may have flu or cold symptoms. When appropriate, we will return to our normal liturgical practices, which highly value full participation in the Eucharist through the sharing of the cup and generous signs of hospitality, reconciliation, and unity. If you have any questions about our programs, contact Tracy Sevigny at Youth Faith Formation NO CLASSES THIS WEEK Sunday, February 15, we will not be in session in honor of Presidents Day weekend. General Information Our Early Childhood Education Program (ages three through First Grade) meets Sunday, 9-10 a.m., while our Elementary Program (2 nd grade through Junior High) meets Sunday, 10:15-11:30 a.m. If you are new to Catechetical Ministry, please print out a registration packet from our website or complete one in Room 2 next Sunday. How is Your 3-Year Old Enjoying Mass? During the 9 a.m. Mass, we offer an Early Childhood Program. Though our Kindergarten classes are to capacity, our Three-year and Four-year old classes still have plenty of room. Our program provides a developmentally appropriate faith-based experience for the youngest members of our community. High School Confirmation No session this week in honor of Presidents Day! Please keep our candidates in your prayers, as they continue the catechetical portion of their formation. Adult Baptism If you or someone you know is interested in the Roman Catholic faith, you are invited to participate in RCIA. Have you been thrilled to see the infant baptisms occurring during our Sunday masses? Are you excited to see the young families make initiation into our Catholic faith an important part of their children s lives? At this time our craft supply storage is filled to capacity. We will notify you when we are able to receive further craft donations. Small Christian Communities A Small Christian Community meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month, 7:30-9:00 p.m., for discussion of faith and our church beliefs, based on a variety of sources such as Sunday Mass readings, faith-related books, videotaped lectures. We will begin 2015 using the Quest Reflections series, which centers on the readings for the Sunday Mass following each meeting, with reflections and questions for discussion relevant to daily life. Anyone interested in increasing faith is welcome to attend, listen and take part in discussions. 5 MINISTRY NEWS Community Ministry 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time Community Ministry Second Collection Thank you to all who gave so generously to last week s Second Collection taken to support our own Community Ministry. $7,658 was collected which will truly help as we continue to provide food assistance and other services to about 3,000 people each month. Thank you again. Outreach Dinner Our Outreach Dinner will be taking place today, Sunday, February 15, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in our Parish Small Hall. All Senior Citizen members of our Parish are invited, along with a guest, to this meal followed by BINGO. Blanket and Sleeping Bags Collection During the Cold Weather we often receive requests for Sleeping Bags and/ or Blankets. If you have any that you could donate to Community Ministry please drop them off at the Pantry, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. 12 p.m. or the Parish Office, Monday through Friday from 9 5 p.m. (closed 12-1:15 p.m.) Ash Wednesday Psalm Hungering for the Journey Join our parish community and more than 13,000 Catholic communities across the United States in a life -changing Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl. Pick up your family s rice bowl from the entrances of the church, and don t forget to download the CRS Rice Bowl app! Remember, your Lenten sacrifices change lives. Food Collection Most of you are aware of the Community Ministry Collection Barrels that are located in our Church. During the month of February, we will continue to request canned Soup, Pork & Beans, Chile, Macaroni & Cheese and Tomato Sauce. These are items that we do not receive often from the Second Harvest Food Bank. Being a registered parishioner makes things much easier when it is time for infant Baptism, weddings, when asked to be a Baptismal or Confirmation Sponsor and even funerals. We are often asked to provide affidavits for Baptismal and Confirmation Sponsors. We can only do this if a person is a registered, active and contributing member. So, are you a registered parishioner? If not, please consider registering. St. Justin School is currently looking for donations for our silent and live auction items. We are looking for a variety of items: hand-made items, tickets for shows or games, a weekend at a cabin or hotel, restaurant certificates, and much more!!
