3 O L J C, K U N 20, 2016 PreBaptism class for parents who will be having children baptized in December 2016 or January 2017 is Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary s School (cafeteria entrance). Please call the office at to register. Please note this class is for parents who have never had a child baptized. The Kingdom of God: This is the week of giving thanks. Many unborn babies received a chance of surviving, thanks to the Nov. election. The little ones already in God s arms have to be rejoicing. It was very brave for a candidate on national TV to describe how an unborn human is taken apart during an abortion. The other candidate stated that abortion should be available and subsidized until natural birth. Our country already hemorrhages over the approximately one million unborn humans who are killed every year. There is much we can do to enlighten citizens about the travesty of abortion, legal in NYS since July 1, Praise God for this reprieve. Attention: Families with Toddlers! Masterpiece Mondays returns Open to all young parishioners! At St. Mary s Preschool Room 118. Monday, December 5, 1:30 pm 2:30 pm. Join us for a Christmas themed story, followed by a teacher directed craft! Build early literacy skills, creativity and fellowship! Stay when you are done for some free playtime. Children aged 2 3 years old welcome with adult accompaniment. Please rsvp to save your spot: or anorton@smsbspa.org. We look forward to bringing all of the itemsto the Christ Episcopal Church Food Pantry on Tuesday, November 22 to help families in our community. Last week we kicked off our Social Studies unit, Early People of New York, with a visit from the Brookside Museum. Through handson and interactive activities we learned about Native American history, including information about their food, shelter, storytelling, and community structure. We also kept a close eye on this year s election and became experts on each candidate s views on important subject matters. In Science we learned about the millions of cells that make up our bodies, and how animals and plants are classified. We can t wait to start our next unit about photosynthesis and ecosystems! Math has been especially exciting as we continue to learn how to multiply multi digit numbers using various strategies, including drawing models. Who knew multiplication could be such fun?! Finally, as we continue to work hard and count down the days until the holidays, we will take this time to appreciate and reflect upon the items that we cherish. We hope you will also take a moment to thank God for the wonderful gifts he gives us each and every day.
4 Sunday, November 20, Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe 9:30 am Sunday, November 27, First Sunday of Advent 9:30 am Joe Minarski Peg Minarski & Children Reverend Raymond Hourigan The Valenza Family Today s second collection is for The Catholic Campaign for Human Development. If we have enough volunteers, a two week rotating schedule could be set up. We do not want any one person burdened with doing it all of the time. Wreath Placing There will be a Memorial Service for Fallen Veterans on December 17 th 12 noon atsix locationsthroughout the Galway area. Wreaths will be placedsimultaneouslyon the memorials at each of the following locations Galway Town Park, Galway Town Hall, Galway School, Providence Town Hall, Charlton at The Gideon Hawley Park and Scotch Church Cemetery. The Glenville Hills Garden Club is the sponsor of this memorial service and invites all to join in honoring those who have given their lives for our freedom by attending the Wreath Placing at one of the above mentioned locations. Parish News: Connor Novak received the Sacrament of Baptism on Sunday, November 13 th. May this child and his family receive God s Blessing as they begin their spiritual journey together. Faith Formation: Advent Preparation The season of Advent is coming upon us. During this time we ready ourselves for the birth of our Savior by making an effort to live as we have been taught by the 10 Commandments. The Ten Commandments are a concise life plan given to us bygodhimselfto give us the joy and happiness He wants for us. Here are the first three: I am the Lord, thy God, thou shalt not have strange gods before Me. Have I sinned against Religion by believing in New Age, Scientology, Astrology, Horoscopes, Fortunetelling, Superstition or engaging in the Occult? Has money, career, pleasure, etc. replaced God as my highest priority? Have I neglected my daily prayers? Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. Have I committed blasphemy by using the name of God and Jesus Christ to swear rather than to praise? Have I committed sacrilege by showing disrespect to holy objects (crucifix, rosary) or contempt for religious persons (bishop, priests, deacons, women religious) or for sacred places (in Church). Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day. Did I miss Mass onanysunday or Holy day? (Bad weather and being sick do not count)have I shown disrespect by leaving Mass early, not paying attention or not joining in the prayers? Did I do unnecessary work on Sunday which could have been done another day? Have I been stingy in my support for the Church? Do I give of my time & talent? S. M M C, G, NY Health Ministry Thanksgiving Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; His Love endures forever. Ps 107:1 Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to gather with family and friends and reflect on the blessings of the last year. Many of us experience renewed hope andfaithduring the Thanksgiving holiday because we turn our eyes onto what is most important. What if we spent time each day in giving thanks and prayer? When your heart is filled with gratitude, there is little room to worry or complain. Following is a prayer you might find fills you with Our Lord s Peace. Thank you, God for the times You have said "no." They have helped me depend on You so much more. Thank you, God, for unanswered prayer. It reminds me that You know what's best for me, even when my opinion differs from Yours. Thank You, Lord, for the things you have withheld from me. You have protected me from what I may never realize. Thank You, God, for the doors You have closed. They have prevented me from going where You would rather not have me go. Thank you, Lord, for the physical pain You've allowed in my life. It has helped me more closely relate to Your sufferings on my behalf. Thank you, Lord, for the alone times in my life. Those times have forced me to lean in closer to You. Thank you, God, for the uncertainties I've experienced. They have deepened my trust in You. Thank You, Lord, for the times You came through for me when I didn't even know I needed a rescue. Thank You, Lord, for the losses I have experienced. They have been a reminder that You are my greatest gain. Thank You, God, for the tears I have shed. They have kept my heart soft and moldable. Thank You, God, for the times I haven't been able to control my circumstances. They have reminded me that You are sovereign and on the throne. Thank You, God, for those people in my life whom You have called home to be with You. Their absence from this earth keeps my heart longing for heaven. Thank You, God, that I have an inheritance in the heavenly places...something that this world can never steal from me and I could never selfishly squander. Thank You, God, for the greatest gift You could ever give me: forgiveness through Your perfect Son's death on the cross on my behalf. Thank You, God, for the righteousness You credited toward me, through the death and resurrection of Jesus. It's a righteousness I could never earn or attain on my own. Thank You, Father, that You know me, You hear me, and You see my tears. Remind me through difficult times that You are God, You are on the throne, and You are eternally good. And thank You, Lord, not only for my eternal salvation, but for the salvation You afford every day of my life as You save me from myself, my foolishness, my own limited insights, and my frailties in light of Your power and strength. ~ Cindy McMenamin, Author We thank you for your sacrificial offering of $960 for Sunday, Nov. 13. To cover our weekly expenses, we need $1,000. St. Mary s Community Service Group Christmas Toiletries Collection November 627 We will be collecting toiletry items for this year s Christmas Basket Project for family clients of the Galway Food Pantry.Kindly purchase any of the following items and place them in the large red box in the Social Hall: shampoo, soap, deodorant (ladies and men), toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, and shaving cream.in addition, nail polish, nail files, small bottles of perfume and perhaps a piece of jewelry would be appreciated for teenage girls.
