While the US Senators failed to protect unborn humans, let s try to defund abortions by supporting the Hyde Amendment. This 1976 Amendment provided monies to states for abortions only declared necessary. (Pity the child!) By continually funding abortions for any reason, we encourage growth of that industry, and hearts turn against these gifts of life for our future. The famous quote of Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta rings true: Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use violence to get what they want. Please sign today s letter and put it in the white box at the exit as you leave the church. We thank you for your sacrificial offering of $13,177 for Sunday, Jan. 28. To cover our weekly expenses, we need $11,500. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA): Our RCIA team would like to introduce to you, NICHOLAS FIACCO, who is preparing to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation at our Easter Vigil Service in March. Nicholas was born & raised in Norwood, NY, near Potsdam.He was baptized & received his First Communion at St. Andrew's Parish, which is in the diocese of Ogdensburg.Nicholas has had training in the Martial arts & has worked as a carpenter & as a railroad employee. At this time in his life, he is discerning if God is calling him to the priesthood. On Sunday, February 11 at our 8:30 liturgy, Nicholas & our other RCIA candidate, Patrick Dunleavy, will be formally introduced & will express their intention to continue their journey toward full membership in the Catholic Church.We parishioners will accept them & offer our support & witness as they prepare for the Easter Sacraments. ~Sister Nancy & the RCIA team. Eucharistic Adoration & Evening Prayer You re invited to spend a little extra time with Jesus by joining us for Eucharistic Adoration & evening prayer from 56 pm on Monday, Feb. 12, 19, 26. There will be NO Adoration on Monday, Feb. 5. Birthright, a pregnancy support service, will be holding its annual VALENTINE S DAY BAKE SALE at St. Mary s on Sat., Feb. 10, & Sun., Feb. 11. Baked goods are needed & truly appreciated. They may be brought to the cafeteria on Sat., 2/10, 2:30 4:00 p.m. & Sun., 2/11, 8:0010:30 a.m. We will have available a number of homemade apple & cherry pies & other baked items. Thank you for supporting our efforts to help local women distressed by a pregnancy & the littlest children of needy families. Our Lady of Peace Prayer Group will meet on Tues., 2/13, at St. Mary s Church, 6:30 pm 8:15 pm. All are welcome! CAN YOU HELP? We love going to STREAM class each week & learning about fun & new topics. We recently learned that each & every snowflake is unique, just like how God made each of us! We were able to learn how snowflakes are formed & make our very own! We have also been practicing counting by tens in math! Our friends are using base ten blocks & ten frame houses to count out & model numbers!

Health Ministry: INFLAMMATION REDUCTION OMEGA3 FATTY ACIDS play an important role in keeping your body s cells strong and protecting them against compounds called free radicals, which attack your cells and can lead to inflammation. Inflammation is at the root of so many ailments, including heart disease, diabetes, even allergies. The omega3 in seafood (like sardines, salmon and tuna) are especially easy for your body to absorb, so aim to eat it once or twice a week. More good sources: walnuts, flaxseeds, chia seeds. ANTIOXIDANTS are another key to fighting free radicals. The more colorful your produce is, the more antioxidants it usually contains. Research shows that berries and cherries are particularly rich sources. Blueberries, blackberries and strawberries also possible prevent agerelated memory loss. LYCOPENE has been shown to stop inflammation causing proteins from activating. It is found in many redpink fruits and vegetables, including tomatoes, watermelon and pink grapefruit. Cooking tomatoes in olive oil and making then into sauce concentrates the lycopene and boosts its absorption. RECIPE for Flax and Walnut Granola: Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line a 15 x 10 inch baking pan with parchment paper. In a large bowl combine ½ c unsweetened applesauce, ¼ c pure maple syrup, 2 Tbsp. olive oil, 1 tsp. vanilla, ½ tsp. cinnamon, ¼ tsp salt and ¼ tsp nutmeg. Stir in 3 cups rolled oats, 1 ½ c chopped walnuts, 3 Tbsp. ground flaxseeds and 2 Tbsp. chia seeds. Spread mixture in prepared pan. Bake 45 to 50 minutes, stirring after 20 minutes. Makes 4 ½ cups.
