3 T S O T J 1, 2018 Our Lady of Peace Prayer Group will meet on Tues., 7/10, at St. Mary s Church, 6:30 pm 8:15 pm. All are welcome! If you would like to honor Our Lady of Fatima s request to fulfill the Five First Saturday devotions, please join us Saturday, July 7, at 3:00 pm. We will be meditating on the Glorious Mysteries of the Holy Rosary. Our Lady promised, "I promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, shall confess, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to Me." A democracy is mob rule, while our country is a representative government. A society of Me, Myself, and I is dangerous because it leaves no room for God s blessings of life and liberty for all. Here are some common signs from anunslife.org It seems to start off vague and gradually over time becomes more clear.maybe in prayer, or on retreat, or after meeting someone who is living out a commitment to God, you may have a fleeting, halfformed thought: Hmmm... I could do that! Or maybe, I wonder if I should be a (nun, sister, priest, brother, pastoral minister... etc.) Or, What if God is calling ME? The thought keeps returning. Like a song that creeps back into your consciousness, or a recurring theme in a book, that persistent voice of God will surface now and then perhaps with increasing frequency. Sometimes in the strangest places or at the oddest times the thought will pop up. And you may even think: Oh no, not THAT again! The call is often an idea that just won t go away. God is persistent, offering the call in many gentle or subtle ways until you have time to grow into the idea! Your reaction to the call begins to change. At some point the fear, or resistance, or incredulousness of it starts to lessen and slowly you notice a shift is taking place. You may find something softening in your response to God s little nudges. If you were responding No way!, you may be surprised to find it becoming Really? Me?"... or Well that wouldn t be so bad Or maybe your call began with a wish or attraction to religious life or a particular service. And you find yourself moving from wondering to wanting. Eventually, there comes a time when your soul already knows the answer! Yes, I have found the soul often is ahead of the self! The deeper self begins to know before the outer self gets it. And then there comes the day when you notice a real desire or even longing to say yes to God, when the call seems not perplexing or fearful but blessed and undeserved. Part II next week. Health Ministry: YOU CAN DO IT! He gives power to those who are tired & worn out; he offers strength to the weak. Even youths will become exhausted, & young men will give up. But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run & not grow weary. They will walk & not faint. Isaiah 40:2931 There are 500,000 deaths in US related to new & recurring coronary (heart) attacks. That means that every day 1,400 people die from a heart attack. Out of these 500,000, 80% die outside the hospital setting & do not receive any medical treatment after suffering heart attack. If these patients received CPR, this would save 200,000 per year or 550 lives per day. These numbers are staggering, & prove beyond any doubt that knowing CPR techniques in case of heart attack usually means a difference between life & death for the victim. If CPR is administered within first four minutes after the heart attack, the chancesof brain damage are virtually nonexistent. So, knowledge of CPR does not only save lives, but also allows victims to recover without sustaining any permanent damage. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, commonly called CPR, combines rescue breathing (one person breathing into another person) & chest compression in to one lifesaving procedure. It is performed when a person has stopped breathing or a person's heart has stopped beating. When performed quickly enough, CPR can save lives in such emergencies as loss of consciousness, heart attacks or heart "arrests," electric shock, drowning, excessive bleeding, drug overdose, & other conditions in which there is no breathing or no pulse. The purpose of CPR is to bring oxygen to the victim's lungs & to keep blood circulating so oxygen gets to every part of the body. When a person is deprived of oxygen, permanent brain damage can begin in as little as four minutes & death can follow only minutes later. There are three general symptoms that warrant immediate administration of CPR: Victim is Unconscious Victim is not Breathing Victim has no Pulse If one or more of those symptoms is present, perform CPR as soon as possible. It is ideal to be properly trained, but not all of us are. In an emergency do the following: First, CALL 911. Second PUMP Position hands in center of the chest & push down TWO INCHES, HARD & FAST 30 times, PUMP at 100 times/ minute but every 30 pumps give two breaths by tilting head, lifting chin, pinching nose & BLOW into mouth.
