Vivacqua, & all the generous parishioners & friends of St. Mary s for their time, talent, & money spent on Christmas gifts for the children at the Cardinal Stepinac Children Center in Haiti. Fr. Belanich, Director, sends his sincere thanks for all your help. He called it Acts of Mercy. We will be sending over 230 boxes & $6,000 to the orphans. A special thanks to Jake & his Youth Ministry for the collection to buy rice & beans. They collected $1,839 in one weekend. God bless you all for making this Christmas so special for the children who have so little! ~ Our Lady of Peace Prayer Group The Catholic Daughter of the Americas, Court McLaughlin #422, will hold their November meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at the K of C Hall, 50 Pine Rd., Saratoga. Members will gather at 6:00pm for refreshments & social time & are encouraged to bring a dish to share. The meeting will begin at 6:30pm. November is about supporting our local food pantries, so members are asked to bring canned goods & any other nonperishable items. Please come to the Schenectady Hibernian Hall, 1748 State St., 48 P.M., for a potluck meal. On Sat., Nov. 11, Veterans Day, the Sisters of Life will be at St. Ambrose Church, 9 12, for a breakfast and talk on The Feminine Genius. The cost at the door is $20. This order is only 26 years old, active in major cities, and is dedicated to saving mothers and their babies. NYC is the abortion capitol of the USA. More unborn are killed cumulatively than soldiers killed in wars, who died honorably for the protection of our country. The war on the unborn cripples us today. BIG BAKE SALE FOR CHILDREN IN HAITI, Bakers get your ovens ready! Our 24th Bake Sale for the children in Haiti, on Sat. & Sun., Nov. 11/12, at St. Mary s School after all the masses. Proceeds to benefit the orphans at the Cardinal Stepanic s Children Center in Haiti. Many baked items are needed gooey cakes, pies, brownies, cupcakes, breads your favorite pastries! Items may be left at school before the masses, starting at 2 pm on Saturday & ending at 12 noon on Sunday. Prayer shawls are a wonderful way to wrap those we love in this chilly weather. We have prayer shawls, lap robes & baby blankets to fill all your needs. MARY S SCHOOL: Our First Grade, Kindergarten, & Full Day PreKindergarten students have been busy with hands on projects during STREAM! It s an awesome time to explore classroom curriculum topics using combinations of the elements of Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, & Math. In the first two months of the year, the First Grade students have learned about chemical & physical changes by making apple volcanoes, & engineered fences to hold Five Little Pumpkins. Our Kindergarten students were challenged to create towers with apple pieces & toothpicks & explorer boats using recyclable items. The boats were then launched to test their seaworthiness. The Full Day PreKindergarten students have learned about germs by simulating glitter spread throughout the school & engineered a giant spider web using yarn. Each class project encourages the students to collaborate, plan, design, test theories, engineer, use creative thinking, & make improvements throughout the challenge. It s an amazing time to watch our youngest scholars working together to learn & utilize these educational elements that will help them to be critical thinkers & problem solvers throughout their educational years! Holiday Basket Project a subcommittee of the Galway Pantry, is looking for individuals or families willing to provide gifts for children and adolescents in our local area. Read the Scriptures for the Mass that s about to begin. Listen for the voice of God in what you read; mull over any word or phrase that strikes you. b.. Think back over the week just passed: Ask God to uncover for you where you succeeded in being His voice, His hands, toward others over the past week. c.. Consider the needs of the church communion locally and worldwide and choose some special intention to pray for at the Mass about to begin. d.. Think about the suffering of people in the news in the neighborhood and around the world and choose to offer your prayer at Mass for some particular way and place in which God s will needs to be done. e.. Ask God to uncover for you some place where you re blind to His will, or stuck in your own desires, so that you can pray and work on changing that. f.. Pray that someone unknown to you in the congregation will be helped through a great struggle or moment of crisis by your prayer. Health Ministry: Cancer Prevention Foods Beloved, I wish above all things that thou may prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers." ~3 John 2 The foods you choose may help reduce your risk for cancer. Consider the following: 1. Red, yellow and orange peppers, carrots, sweet potatoes and cantaloupe. These are very rich in plant substances called carotenoids. 2. Dark Green Leafy Vegetables Kale, spinach, collard greens and Swiss chard deliver carotenoids and antioxidants. 3. Blueberries and berries of all kinds These are packed with antioxidants. 4. Walnuts and seedsraw seeds and nuts contain phytochemicals and fats that help reduce inflammation, help reduce cholesterol, and help the absorption of other important micronutrients. 5. Salmon Consuming this fatty fish provides omega3 fatty acids. 6. St. Mary s Galway Operational Board News Our Church is maintained by its parishioners. Volunteers are needed to assist in several areas listed below. PLEASE HELP US Many hands make light work! 1. Greeters to welcome all who come to mass with a smile & offer a bulletin. We are looking for at least 4 volunteers men, women &/or children. Volunteers need to arrive 15 minute before mass. 2. Altar Servers grades 3 to 12. We need at least 8 volunteers boys &/or girls. Training will be provided. It s a great opportunity for young people to assist the celebrant in serving the Lord. 3. Counters to count the collections after mass. We need at least 8 volunteers men &/or women. Training will be provided. It s about an hour of your time after mass. We need enough volunteers to rotate these duties. Please pray about giving some of your time to our parish. It s greatly needed.
