2 August 4th and 5th $ Collections 7/28&29/18 Words from Fr. Greg John 6:24-35 The Scripture stories continue through the telling of John. Mark s gospel is the main one for cycle B. However, his is the shortest and cannot cover all the weekends of the liturgical year. WE will have John for the next four weeks from Chapter 6. He addresses the topic of Eucharist and all it many realities. WE know the formal experience in the celebration of the Eucharist at mass. Bread is a symbol that points to many realities in our lives. Symbols are real because they are multi-layered and point to reality that is easily seen and to reality that is hidden internally and needs to be pointed out to reveal its power and transformation when we recognize and believe. What is acknowledged internally leads to action that is visible and transformative. We naturally reach out to give what is recognized within us through the relationship of the Paschal Mystery. The grace received, as we participate in the meal (relationship) with each other, uncovers the presence of Christ in the moment. It takes the present moment and deepens our attention and awareness to the reality we are experiencing. Our participation in the breaking of the bread opens us to broader meaning, value, and purpose of our daily lives. We are the mvp s. We are God s children, made in God s image and likeness. This can happen if we choose to participate in this Mystery. It is intimate and transforming. It is healing and lifegiving. Sacraments call us to be holy and when we respond we become holy. We choose to move away from what is not of God and move toward what is of God. We do this with clarity and free will. We are also motivated to give to others what we receive. The dynamic of Eucharist is a willingness to accept, I cannot live in this world, solely through my ego. Inevitably, I will choose selfishly and move toward entitlement with no regard for others. I isolate and my choices are all about me. Coming to the meal to partake, participate in the breaking of bread, means I am willing to ask God to help me with life that I cannot do by myself. It is a call to community, to cooperate with others where Christ dwells within. As they break open their lives, together we experience the divine bread through each other. The meal disposes, opens our hearts to the experience of the Paschal Mystery. We will discover desolation, that which is not of God, and consolation, that which is of God. This is the constant tension of balance in our lives. We will have to use our free will to choose and ask for the grace to choose what is of God and find the miracle of the multilayered symbol of bread. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD. Stay tuned to the many meanings of the metaphor of bread. This is an intimate part of our lives. This is our knapsack filled with the tools of our faith helping of choose the bread of life.

He can visit with you, bring you the blessed Sacraments and pray with you. If you do not call, he cannot accomplish the above. Baptisms, Marriages: Call Father Greg at (228) to set up time for preparation and then set a date. Confessions: Saturdays 4:00 to 4:30 pm prior to Mass or by appointment. Herbert Mullin, Knights of Columbus Council #16992 meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month in the Parish Life Center. Rosary at 6:00 meeting begins at 6:15 Pastoral Council the last Monday of each month at 6 pm in the Church Conference Room. St. Vincent de Paul Society meets on the First Sunday of every month, prior to Mass, at 9:00 am, in the St. Vincent de Paul office at the church. St. Michael Youth Group (3rd -11th grades) meets every 3rd Saturday after the 5 pm Youth Mass. Call the church office for more information. CCD Classes All Grades: meet Nativity BVM in the Sacred Heart Center on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 pm. In Memory of Lusk, Baker, McCaleb Fun Fact In August, 1942, the Wesley House located at 1338 East Beach was purchased by St. Michael parish to serve as a nursery and kindergarten. It was formerly a Methodist church and nursery for many years. The purchase price was $10, and included three buildings and large grounds. Father Mullin reported that three to four thousand had been spent on improvements for the kindergarten and nursery and, though located in the eastern section of the city, they would be open to children of all religions all over Biloxi. There were plans to turn the third building into a clinic. In the meantime, the nursery and kindergarten would be under the supervision of the Sisters of Mercy, namely: Sister Mary Ignatius, Sister Mary Lucia and Sister Mary Adrienne. (Daily Herald )
