3 Fr. Ken Paulli, who often presides and preaches at the 8:30am Mass here at St. Mary s, published a new book: Outside the Walls: Encountering God in the Unfamiliar. The cost for the soft cover is $ On the weekend of April 7/8, he will have a book signing after the Masses. Big Abortion was dropped from the budget bill. The intent to decriminalize abortion will continue to be an issue in our state. The governor supports abortion in any form. Our Bishop Ed will lead the 5 th Annual Rosary Walk for Life on April 28 around the Capitol. Also, there will be Mass at the Cathedral, a talk from the Sisters of Life, and a reception. A special time for young adults from all over NYS will be held 3 P.M. at St. Pius X Parish. The Catholic Church maintains strong support for both unborn babies and their parents. Society improves or degenerates when concerned people act. Yet, the government and food industry say that people should just eat less, choose a balanced diet, and exercise more. This does not work. If it did, we d all just eat less, exercise more, and be fit and healthy for life. How s that working out for everyone? The truth is that the quality of what you eat is FAR more important than how much you eat.choose quality, forget quantity! The body is not a closed system, it s dynamic and it s responsive to the quality of the calories you re eating. If you re eating wholesome foods in their most natural forms you don t need to count calories. A myth in the nutrition world is that eating fat makes you fat but this cannot be farther from the truth. When participants in a study ate a highfat diet with lowcarb content they burned 300 more calories a day than when they ate a highcarb diet with the exact same amount of calories! And, eating a highfat diet led to beneficial improvements in cholesterol, insulin sensitivity, and markers of inflammation. Your body needs fat to function and find its ideal weight; you just have to choose the right kinds. So here s how to feed your body with the right information 1. Eat a diet with a very low glycemic (sugar) load low in sugar, flour, and refined carbohydrates (bread, cookies, pastries) of all kinds. 2. Eat mostly vegetables and some fruit the deeper the colors, the more variety, the better. This provides a high phytonutrient content protective against most diseases. 3. Eat a diet that is low in pesticides, antibiotics, and hormones and no or low in GMO foods in other words, ORGANIC! 4. Stay away from chemicals, additives, preservatives, dyes, MSG, artificial sweeteners, and other chemicals that you would never have in your pantry. 5. Eat quality fats omega3 fats for all!eat plenty of olive oil, nuts, seeds and avocado. Also sardines, salmon, anchovies and herring are excellent. 6. Make sure you re getting enough protein for appetite control and muscle synthesis, especially in the elderly. Try eggs, chicken, beef, lamb and pork that are organic and have been pasture raised or cage 7. free. In general, choose foods that are ideally organic, local, and fresh (Farmer s market).
