Let us pray for each other. Father Edward C. Hathaway PRIESTS CONVOCATION This coming week, all priests of the Arlington Diocese will participate in our annual convocation in which we gather in two sessions (one for the first few days of the week, the second for the last few days) with Bishop Burbidge. This year s focus is the 50th anniversary of Humanae Vitae, the landmark encyclical from Pope Paul VI that highlights the beauty of the unitive and procreative dimensions of human sexuality. Topics may include how contraception harms marriage and family life, the moral implications of in vitro fertilization and aspects of gender identity theory. (You can find more information at natural-family-planning/resources/humanae-vitae.cfm). Our presenter will be Rev. Tadeusz Pacholczyk, Ph.D., Director of Education at the National Catholic Bioethics Center in Philadelphia ( Fr. Tad also will be joining us here at the Basilica for our inaugural Saints Peter and Paul lecture on June 30 and he will preach at all of our Masses that weekend. Stay tuned for more information! CONGRATULATIONS TO BISHOP LOVERDE! Congratulations to Bishop Emeritus Paul S. Loverde, the third bishop of the Diocese of Arlington, who recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of his ordination as a bishop. He was ordained as an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Hartford in 1988 and later served as Bishop of Arlington from 1999 to May Our Lord continue to bless him. ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER Tuesday, May 1 is the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, recalling the virtues he practiced in his ordinary life of work. Known as the carpenter, Joseph was the model of patience, persistence, courage and hard work. He cared for his family and taught his craft to Jesus, his adopted son. Performing his day-to-day duties in the presence of Our Lord and Our Lady, he reminds us to turn often to Jesus and Mary as we, too, labor in the midst of our own responsibilities. Our work should be carried out in a cheerful and friendly manner with attention to the details of the task at hand. Punctuality, order and diligence imbued with prayer help us offer our work to God and sanctify our life as St. Joseph did. St. Joseph, pray for us! Follow Father Hathaway on to receive daily quotes on Scripture and the Saints!
