We honor these men with our annual Father s Day Novena, beginning today, Sunday, June 19. Enrollment cards can be found at the exits of the church. May St. Joseph, model of Christian fatherhood, intercede, guide and pray for them. SCHOOL S OUT! This past Friday, June 17, was the last day of the school year for the students at our parish school. Let s pray they will enjoy a safe, relaxing, spiritually enriching summer. SACRED HEART PART TWO As mentioned here last week, June is dedicated to a special reflection on the Sacred Heart of Jesus (also known as the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sacratissimi Cordis Iesu in Latin). This is one of the most widely practiced among all Catholic devotions and takes Christ's physical heart as the representation of His Divine Love for humanity and its suffering. Devotion to the Sacred Heart is mentioned by spiritual writers as far back as the 12th century. The modern form comes largely from the writings of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a French Visitation nun of the 1600s. She learned of the devotion from Jesus during a series of apparitions. Of the many facets of this rich devotion, perhaps the most well-known is that of First Fridays, with a most wonderful promise attached to receiving Holy Communion on nine consecutive First Fridays (see below). PROMISES OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS to St. Margaret Mary 1. I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life. 2. I will establish peace in their homes. 3. I will comfort them in their afflictions. 4. I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all in death. 5. I will bestow a large blessing upon their undertakings. 6. Sinners shall find in My Heart the source and the infinite ocean of mercy. 7. Tepid souls shall grow fervent. 8. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to perfection. 9. I will bless every place where a picture of My Heart shall be set up and honored. 10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts. 11. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be blotted out. 12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of My Heart that My allpowerful love will grant to all those who communicate on the First Friday of nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance; they shall not die in My disgrace nor without receiving the Sacraments. My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge at this last moment.

4 Page Four June 19, 2016 WORSHIP, PRAYER & FELLLOWSHIP ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT We are so fortunate here at St. Mary's to have the opportunity each week to pray before the Blessed Sacrament. When we set aside time for Jesus, we find we not only have the obvious benefits from "spiritual communion" with Him, but we become increasingly aware of His presence in the busier moments of our lives when there is so much to preoccupy us. When we spend time alone with Jesus, our love for Him becomes more intimate, and our love for each other more compassionate. This communion with Him carries over into life's most demanding periods. Visiting Our Lord in Adoration is also the perfect time to show a sense of gratitude for all He has blessed us with. He is waiting for us to visit!! Think of spending just one hour per week with Our Lord. Adoration is on Wednesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., concluding with a Holy Hour. For more information, contact: Mary Stier at or mlpstier@gmail.com. ST. MARY S CATHOLIC MOMS BOOK CLUB We re taking a break for the summer, returning the 3rd Tuesday in September. In honor of the Year of Mercy we will read The Diary of St. Faustina: Divine Mercy in My Soul. It's a longer selection, so starting soon will mean just a few pages a day.
