APOSTOLATE OF THE WEEK The Catholic Mothers' Book Club is for any mom wanting to daily feed her desire to grow closer to Christ and to better understand our faith through reading an array of books on faith. We read a variety of Catholic and Christian books, ranging from books on God, Jesus and Mary to books in the Bible, lives of the saints, prayer, Papal Encyclicals and even fiction written by Catholic authors. Reading the book is followed by an opportunity to carve out 90 minutes once a month to join other faithful moms, discuss the book and share our personal reflections and journey in the faith together. One-third of the proceeds from our collection will go to Catholic Relief Services for their work in Haiti and other affected nations, one-third will go to Catholic Charities USA for their efforts in the Southeast, and one-third will go to the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh due to the devastation caused by flooding in eastern North Carolina and also in recognition of our diocese s present particular relationship with Bishop Burbidge of Raleigh who will formally become our new bishop in December. Thank you very much, in advance, for your generosity in helping our brothers and sisters who have been affected by the hurricane. OKTOBERFEST THIS AFTERNOON! 8 September 28 November 6, 2016 Christians throughout Northern Virginia are encouraged to take part in the 40 Days for Life campaign to save unborn babies from the tragedy of abortion and save their mothers from a lifetime of regret. This campaign is an international effort to access God s power through prayer, fasting and peaceful vigils. Everyone can help in some way. The campaign includes three components:1) Prayer and fasting (as the Lord leads) for an end to abortion; 2) a peaceful prayer vigil at a site where abortions are occurring; and 3) educational outreach to the community. The focus of the Alexandria campaign is a 40-day prayer vigil outside the abortion facility at 101 South Whiting Street (Landmark Towers building). This is a peaceful and educational presence designed to save lives and raise awareness about alternatives to abortion. Participants are encouraged to spend time standing for life in prayerful witness at this site.
