MARRIAGE: Couples planning marriage need to make an appointment with one of the priests at least SIX months before the intended wedding date to begin the preparation process. A wedding date cannot be scheduled without approval of a priest. BAPTISM: Expectant parents should contact the office four to six (4-6) months before the birth of the child. VISITATION OF THE SICK OR SHUT-INS: If any one is ill at home and not on the regular Communion list, please call the parish office at NEW PARISHIONERS: Please complete the form provided at entrances of the church, then place it in the collection basket or mail it to the parish office. 2 Page Two Dear Parishioners, The Year of Faith has begun. Pope Benedict has called for this year of the new evangelization for the transmission of the Christian faith to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the opening of the 2nd Vatican Council and the 20th anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The Catechism is considered to be one of the greatest fruits of the council. We have some gifts for you today. For our parishioners we have a book for each family Rediscover Catholicism by Matthew Kelly. His thoughts are exactly what the new evangelization is about rekindling the lames of our faith and sharing it with others. The Year of Faith continues through November 24, We will also be offering an adult CCD course at the same time that the children have CCD. It will start on Tuesday October 23 and will take place in the hall. Please bring a Catechism of the Catholic Church with you. This will take place both during the 5:30 and 7:00pm CCD sessions so you can go to either one it will be the same thing at both times. Please take advantage of this course, Deacon Art s course, Bob Chaney s course, and all the other ones throughout the Diocese. Today we also kick off the Bishop s Services Appeal in our parish. Last year we surpassed our goal by $10 at $55, Thank you so much for your donations. Let us do it again this year. The theme this year is United in Faith to do Good Works. Today we will listen to the Bishop s appeal. Please use the Bishop s Services Appeal envelopes provided if you can. You can mail it directly to the Diocese or put it in one of our collections for the Bishop s Services Appeal. Pledge cards will be picked up on the weekend of October 21. We will have a practice for any new altar servers on Tuesday, October 16 at 6:00pm in the church. Please call the rectory to sign up. Mr. Cliff Tanner will be the new director of altar servers. The children must have already received their Holy Communion and be coming to church faithfully every Sunday. If anyone would like to be a Lector or Extraordinary Lay Minister of Holy Communion please see Fr. Tom. You must be a practicing Catholic and following all the teachings of the church. Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School will be having a living rosary on October 25 at 6:00pm in the front of school. All are welcome. Thanks to Mayor Morrison for giving our church parish the Mayor s Award at the last Scott Business Association meeting. It is a testament to all that our church parish and more recently our school have been doing for over 100 years for the Town of Scott. Thank you Mayor Morrison. Thanks to all who helped with the Improvement Dinner. This year s committee was Dorothea Sonnier- Chairperson, Kathy & Ronnie Guidry, Carita Credeur, Juanita Boudreaux, Sweet Hernandez, Craig Prejean, Troy Bergeron and Monica Laperous. Brian Breaux was the MC. Thanks to Terry Huval & Fr. Mario for our great entertainment. Thanks to them and all who participated to make it so successful. In your bulletin today you will ind the end of year inancial report. Our offerings have been the highest since I ve been here but our expenses were more this year. Overall we were $434, in the black. All of that went toward the school debt. Thanks to all of you for your good work. Also you will notice the school balance which is modestly in the black. I love you all. 3 Page Three OUR CATHOLIC SCHOOL NEWS!! GREAT START The school year is off to a great start with an enrollment of 285 in grades Pre-K-7. Please feel free to come by and visit us any chance you get. SEPTEMBER KNIGHTS OF THE MONTH Students selected as Knights of the Month for embodying the attitude of Respect during the month of September were: Pre-K-Adelynne Bienvenu and Alexa Begnaud; Kindergarten-Maryanne Hodge and Andrew DeValcourt; 1st-Kohen LeJeune and Kaytlyn Reed; 2nd-Claire Boudreaux and Baylor Leger; 3rd-Karlie Alleman and Kennedy Comeaux; 4th- Taylor Johnson; 5th-Lily Guidry; 6th-Kayla Salzberg; and 7th-Gabriel Roy. LANDSCAPE PLAN We are developing a landscape plan to add trees to our campus. We are hoping to add a variety of trees including oaks, ash, crepe myrtles and magnolia. We want to plant trees of approximately 5-6 feet in heights to have an immediate impact both for aesthetics and shade. If you are interested in donating a tree in memory or in honor of someone please contact the school of ice at Trees of the size we want, purchased and planted will run $250. FAMILY DINNER NIGHT Research has shown that students from families who eat together tend to do better academically and socially. To encourage our families to dine together we have begun Family Dinner Night. A question is posed to students over a two week period and we ask them to have dinner with their families at least once during that period. Student responses are placed in the cafeteria so we can share with the entire school family. Our current question is If Jesus came to your house for dinner what meal would you serve and what would you talk about? We d like to encourage the entire Sts. Peter & Paul Church community to join in this project and we will post each new question as it arises. LIVING ROSARY We invite everyone to join us for a Living Rosary at 6:00pm on Thursday, October 25 in front of the school. PO-BOY SALE Our annual po-boy fundraiser will be held on Sunday, November 4. Tickets are available from any student or at the school of ice. Tickets are $6.00 for a sausage po-boy and bag of chips. Thank you for your support.
