4 e e e Parish Announcements & Contact Informa on RCIA is offered for adults seeking to become Catholic, or adult Catholics seeking to receive First Holy Communion, Confirmation, or have their civil marriage blessed by God s Church. It is also available to adult Catholics who simply want to continue learning about their faith. RCIA will be available every Thursday from 6:15pm-7:30pm in the parish office. For more information contact the parish office. The Catholic Daughters (CDA) are inviting women of all ages to join our organization. We assist and service Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Our dues are $25.00 a year and are due in January of each year. We help with receptions, visit the sick catholic daughters in our church parish, recite the rosary at the funeral home for our members and their families upon request, and serve lunch at St. Joseph s Diner. Feel Free to join us at one of our meetings which are held on the third Wednesday of each month with a rosary at 6:30pm and the meeting beginning at 7:00pm. Our first meeting in 2019 will be help on January 16th. We will also have a membership drive in January PLEASE don t skip a Sunday Donation!!! It makes a huge difference. You can always mail it or drop it off at the Church office. If we re closed you can drop it through the mail slot on the door! If you would like to help decorate the Church for Christmas please stop by the Church on December we will need help decoration the tree as well as the Church. On December 20th and 21st we will be decorating the tree from 6-10pm. On December 22nd from 9am- 3pm and 23rd from 6-10pm, the rest of the Church will be decorated. 5 e e Diocesan Announcements Theology of the Body-Level 2-"Into the Heart" Location: St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Lafayette Classes will be held in the Father Lafleur Family Center, which is the large building on the far east side of the parking lot. The church is located at 610 Raintree Trail in Lafayette. Should we return to our home after a long absence, we quickly revert to its familiar speech and practices. Our deep memory is reflected in old stories and words and speech patterns. This familiarity runs like an underground river and accompanies us wherever we go. Not only do we remember, we are incorporated into and made part of a greater memory. In remembering and recollecting, we are in turn gathered up and re-collected. Today we remember Mary, a small figure travelling the country roads to visit Elizabeth. All the great pronouncements and dreams of the prophets point to this time when the Lord's words to Mary would be gathered and fulfilled. Tanner TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION In ancient pagan Rome, these days in mid-december were a time for general slacking off at work and far too much rejoicing. The period of leisure after the harvest and a whole cluster of pagan festivals were a force for the church to reckon with. The Saturnalia, breaking out on December 17, was a time of high living and loose morals. Christians were advised by their bishops to drop out of the mayhem and do some serious fasting. A famous church council at Saragossa in Spain made a season of fasting mandatory from December 17 to December 23, exactly coinciding with the Saturnalia. The bishops at that time were perhaps less concerned with preparing for Christmas than with resisting the kind of loose living going on. Modern times have restored a bit of the Saturnalia spirit to our culture, so that a general period of partying with a vague connection to religion is now upon us. How does a Christian keep balance? The practice of charity by remembering the poor in our gift-giving, of hospitality in finding a place at our holiday tables for the poor and lonely, and of daily prayer in the home and at church are great helps. Marriage: Couples planning marriage need to make an appointment with the pastor at least six months before the intended wedding date to begin the preparation process. A wedding date cannot be scheduled without approval of the pastor. Anointing of the Sick: Contact the office to schedule an appointment, home or nursing home visit, and, if death is imminent, contact the office for immediate action. First Communion and Confirmation: Contact the Elementary DRE or High School DRE respectively. Holy Communion for the Homebound: Contact the parish office to request a visit. If you are interested in becoming Catholic or receiving Confirmation as an adult, or if you simply want to learn more about your faith, contact the office to inquire about RCIA.
