2 Page Two Dear Parishioners, We have just begun the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. It started on January 18 which used to be the Feast of St. Peter and it ends on January 25 which is still the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. It is a time to pray for unity of the Body of Christ with all of our separated Christian brothers and sisters. Let us pray we may be united at the table of the Lord. How appropriate Martin Luther King s birthday falls during this week. He worked for unity of races in a non-violent manner. Let us continue to pray for that in our country. Tuesday makes the 40th anniversary of the infamous Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision which made abortion legal in this country. Now 55.5 million abortions later we see the devastation that it has caused spiritually, socially, and even economically. The poor women are the 2nd victim of this man made atrocity. Let us work and pray and vote for the overturn of this decision and for the complete end to this holocaust. The Gospel today is about the wedding feast at Cana attended by Jesus, Mary & his disciples. It was his 1st public miracle and a prophesy of his own mystical marriage to his bride the Church which took place at the last supper and on the cross. At Cana he changes water into wine. At the last supper he goes one step further and changes wine into his blood. We could say that it was his wedding rehearsal supper, but it was more than that because he really gave himself to his bride sacramentally in the Holy Eucharist which foreshadowed his offering on the cross the next day. This allows us to meditate on the Sacrament of Matrimony. I totally encourage prayer in the home as a couple and as a family. An annual retreat is also a great thing as a couple and we try to advertise those. For couples experiencing problems there is Retrouvaille retreat. Check it out on the internet. Natural Family Planning is also a good idea if you never learned it. The Diocesan website, Of ice of Marriage & Family Life has those schedules. We have a parishioner who would like to go to church but needs a ride. She lives on Winbourne. Please call if you are interested. We put up the framed pastor pictures in the conference room. Please come view if you are interested. Thanks to all who decorated our church for the Christmas holiday so beautifully. The architect was Bridget Trevino so many thanks to her and the following families: Trevinos, Clostios, Dihns, Duplechins, Belieres Duckworths and Catherine Hoffpauir, Troy Albarado, Stephanie LaFleur and others. Thanks to all of you so much. You did a great job. The Our Lady of the Oaks Men s Retreat for the Scott area will be February I encourage all of you men to sign up for this Retreat. If you are interested please contact Dr. Darrin Menard at dmenardmd@cox.net. You will come back a better husband and better father. If any one, or a group of people are interested in saving the oak tree at the corner of Old Spanish Trail and Alfred Street, the cost is $2,125. Please let me know if you are interested. I love you all. Joke of the Week: Laity Thoughts Some church members who say Our Father on Sunday go around the rest of the week acting like orphans. In Jesus, Reverend Thomas Voorhies frtom@sts-peter-paul.org mdl
